SECOND OF EASTER Sunday, April 15, 2012 Nursery: Supervised care for children under the age of 3 years is available in the nursery which has been relocated to the Little Lambs Room adjacent to the Sunday School upstairs in the Concert Hall. Should children become restless during worship, parents may wish to care for them in the Crying Room, where the service is received through closed-circuit television. An usher will be pleased to direct you to either location. Hearing Assistance Earphones are available in the entrance lobby each Sunday. Please ask an usher if you wish to use one. Cellular Phones: We thank you for your co-operation in turning all cellular phones and pagers off or to mute during the service. Washrooms: For your convenience, the entrance lobby has two washrooms, which are wheelchair accessible and have change tables for infants.

THE ORDER OF SERVICE

Our service begins with the Prelude, inviting us to prepare for worship.

HYMN 448 “We Know that Christ Is Raised” PRAYER OF APPROACH PRAYER OF CONFESSION O God and Father of the living Christ, we have seen your purpose for us in the one who lived with vibrant faith, and who died with steadfast resolve. We who seek to follow your Christ know only too well our weaknesses and failings. Our living is often without such faith. Our resolve in the face of trials often deserts us. Our doubts and fears rob our lives of confidence, so that death is with us, even in life. Come to us in the power of your love. Snap the chains of death again, as at the first Easter. Shatter the power of sin and evil, the death within us that cripples our living. Set us free to know your gift of life, free to live joyfully as your people, free to live out your praise in lives of courage and hope; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Silence for personal confession. LITANY LORD, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. LORD, have mercy. ASSURANCE OF PARDON WORD OF WELCOME

READING FROM SCRIPTURE Romans 5: 1-2, 6-10 (NRSV, p.155) At the conclusion of the reading: Given by Doug Abra Reader: The Word of the LORD. People: Thanks be to God. RESPONSIVE READING From Psalm 116 Leader: I love the LORD, because he has heard my voice and my supplications. People: Because he inclined his ear to me, therefore I will call on him as long as I live. Leader: The snares of death encompassed me; the pangs of Sheol laid hold on me; I suffered distress and anguish. People: Then I called on the name of the LORD: ‘O LORD, I pray, save my life!’ Leader: Gracious is the LORD, and righteous; our God is merciful. People: The LORD protects the simple; when I was brought low, he saved me. Leader: Return, O my soul, to your rest, for the LORD has dealt bountifully with you. People: For you have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling. Leader: I walk before the LORD in the land of the living. People: I kept my faith, even when I said, ‘I am greatly afflicted’; Leader: What shall I return to the LORD for all his bounty to me? People: I will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the LORD. Leader: I will pay my vows to the LORD in the presence of all his people, People: in the courts of the house of the LORD, in your midst, O Jerusalem. Praise the LORD! The psalm will conclude with the singing of the Gloria Patri: Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost: As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
