These California natives met in 1978 while filming The Legacy in London and married in 1984. Elliott has played roles in films including Tombstone, The Big Lebowski , Road House, We Were Soldiers, and most recently, The Hero (Ross also had a role in The Hero). He starred in television movies based on books written by Louis L’Amour, including The Sacketts, The Quick and the Dead, The Shadow Riders, and Elliott and Ross starred in and adapted Conagher for the screen. Elliott is currently starring in a Netflix original series, The Ranch. Ross is best known for her leading roles in The Graduate, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, as well as starring with John Wayne in The Hellfighters. Ross also guest starred in almost all of the TV Westerns of the late ‘60s and ‘70s. The couple was inducted into the Hall of Great Western Performers at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, Elliott in 2007 and Ross in 2014. Bert and Montie Carol Madera Robert L. CHESTER A. REYNOLDS AWARDRandy Cate, FarrierRandy Cate worked on numerous Oklahoma ranches before returning home to Bruner, Missouri, to care for his aging parents and begin his career as a farrier. Soon, word of Cate’s skill – especially in treating foundered horses – quickly spread. Known to donate his services, Cate is a Brotherhood of Working Farriers member and was recognized by the Missouri Legislature in 2002 for engineering a hydraulic table to treat horses.

HALL OF GREAT WESTERN PERFORMERSBarry Corbin, ActorA respected screen presence for more than three decades, Emmy-nominated actor Barry Corbin, a Texas native, has dazzled audiences and critics alike with richly textured roles in films such as Urban Cowboy and No Country for Old Men and TV projects including Northern Exposure, Lonesome Dove, and Modern Family. A champion cutting horse competitor, Corbin is also the spokesman for the National Alopecia Areata Foundation and celebrity host of Round Up for Autism.

Lynn Anderson,Country Music Singer(1947-2015)Grammy Award winning artist Lynn Anderson spent six decades blurring the line between country and pop music with her unique “countrypolitan” sound. Known for crossover hits like Cry, Top of the World, and, (I Never Promised You a) Rose Garden – the biggest-selling recording by a female country artist for 27 years – Anderson was also an avid equestrian, winning 16 national and eight world cutting and showing championships before her death in 2015.

HALL OF GREAT WESTERNERS

Walter Lennox Vail, Cattleman (1852-1906)Walter Lennox Vail, one of the most prominent cattlemen in Arizona and California during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, headed the Empire Land and Cattle Company for 30 years. Vail was instrumental in transitioning the nascent cattle industry from local-only commerce into large interstate operations for breeding, feeding, and marketing. Appointed to the 10th Arizona Territorial Legislature, Vail also oversaw the Empire Land and Cattle Company’s expansion into mining, oil, real estate, and horse racing.

Jim Odle, Livestock AuctioneerIn 1986, Jim Odle of Brush, Colorado, co-founded Superior Livestock, a first-of-its-kind satellite video cattle auction. By implementing emerging technologies such as the internet, Superior Livestock has grown to become the nation’s largest livestock auction. Odle, RFD-TV Board of Directors Chairman and winner of various livestock auctioneer awards, was inducted into the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame and the Colorado Agriculture Hall of Fame.

E stablished in 1961, the Western Heritage Awards honors works in literature, music, film, and television that celebrate

the American West’s rich heritage. The evening also includes the induction of individuals into the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum’s Hall of Great Westerners and Hall of Great Western Performers, and concludes with the presentation of the Chester A. Reynolds Memorial Award, named in honor of the Museum’s founder. Each award recipient receives the Wrangler, a bronze sculpture of a cowboy on horseback.

WESTERN VISIONARY AWARDNot meant to be an annual award, the inaugural Western Visionary Award recognizes an individual who has made a significant contribution and national impact in preserving and protecting Western Heritage and its ideals.
