    Physics: Mechanics Exam thisyear.

I didnt go into it thinking Ineeded to get a perfect score; I justwanted to see what I knew, Shaosaid. I studied from the book andmade sure I knew a lot of ad-vanced concepts, but a lot of mypreparation was through classand the problems we do.

    Michael Zapicchi, principal at

HSN, said Shao is an exceptionalstudent who took this exam with-out even taking the school-ap-proved course.

    He only took our Honors

Physics class, and between whathe did in that class and the workhe did on his own, he wanted totry to do this, he said. It is a re-flection of the quality of instruc-tion and instructors in our build-ings.

Zapicchi said any student isable to take any AP exam withouttaking the course beforehand. Hesaid lots of students take APexams for courses HSN doesntoffer, such as Japanese, psycholo-gy and macroeconomics and mi-croeconomics.

How many credits the stu-dents receive are an individual

function of each college, he said.It depends on what college oruniversity you go to. Some takeall credit and some dont.

Being only a junior, Shao isntsure which college or universityhed like to attend, but knows hedlike to focus on math or physics.

I like physics a lot, he said.Shao is currently preparing to

    take another AP exam, electricity

and magnetism, which will be ad-ministered in May.

Im getting help from myteachers, doing problems they tellme to and looking through somebooks, he said.

Zapicchi said many students atHSN take AP exams each year, with comparable numbers atHigh School South.

While he credits the staff andquality of education at HSN forthis accomplishment, Zapicchialso said the students willing-ness to take different courses toprepare themselves for college isa major factor.

This outstanding accomplish-ment is likely a direct reflectionof the top quality education beingoffered in West Windsor-Plains-boro, Parker said.

We applaud Christopher forhis hours of hard work and alsohis AP teacher, Peter Martin, forthe ability to engage students andenable them to excel in a college-level course.

How many times have you seen

    it: People driving around town

    throwing caution to the wind,

as if they were on a NASCAR track?

Youd think someone was giving away

    free hundred dollar bills.

Do they not know we have children

walking around town? Do they notcare about the safety of other mo-

torists? Do they not care about their

    own safety?

Seems like today, everyone is in a

rush at all times; it seems like its get-

ting worse with each passing year.

Somehow, by some miracle, New Jer-

sey drivers arent the worst in the na-

tion, at least according to an annual

    study recently released by CarInsur-

    anceComparison.com. In fact, were

only the 32nd worst state-full of driv-

ers. If were only middle of the pack,

wed hate to be on the road in

    Louisiana, whose drivers were collec-

tively ranked as the worst in the na-

    tion.

Even though were not as bad as

some of our American brethren, its

worth repeating: Slow down out there!

Nothing can be of such importance

that you need to speed and drive errati-

cally...every time you drive! Its just not

possible that your wife is giving birth

for the fifth time this week.

Our children are walking ourstreets. Our elderly are still behind the

wheel. And our ready, willing and able

are out on the roads, trying to get to or

    from a New Years celebration.

Lets make sure everyone gets where

theyre going safely. Lets all share the

road with each other, and lets stop

being such maniacs even if were not

    the worst.

    in our opinion

Slow down out thereUse caution when driving onthe roads, especially this time of year

    Your thoughts

How bad is the driving out there? How canwe get better? Should more regulationsbe put on New Jersey drivers to improvesafety? Let your thoughts be heardthrough a letter to the editor.

    Susan and Bruce Roeloffs opened

    their Crown Trophy of Mercerville

store at 3257 Quakerbridge Road in

Mercerville in March of 2007. The

store is part of the Crown Trophy

franchise system and is family owned

and operated with Susan and son

    Matt running the operation full-time

    with occasional help from husband

Bruce. Terry Moon and Victoria Kier-

nan are two of their employees that

    embody Susans passion for putting

the customer first. We do everything possible to en-

sure the customer gets what they

want, when they want it, at a fair

price, noted Susan. If the customer

    isnt happy, neither are we.

Proof of that came in 2008 and

2011 when Crown Trophy of Mer-

    cerville won the prestigious Sales

    Achievement Award from Crowns

    Corporate Headquarters at their an-

    nual summer meeting. Crown Tro-

    phy Founder and President Chuck

Weisenfeld said, I love the Mer-

cerville store. Susan and her team are

doing an excellent job representingCrown and have been active in the

community as well. I love that they

    give back, many local businesses

dont do that anymore. I am glad to

have them be a part of the Crown

    Franchise Family. They even com-

    pleted our exhaustive Crown Trophy

    training program and achieved the

    Certified Recognition Advisor (CRA)

designation from us which not every

    store can say.

    Crown Trophy of Merceville has

also received awards from the Rob-

    binsville Education Foundation and

    received resolutions recognizing

    their business from Senator Green-

    stein and Assemblymen Benson and

DeAngelo. Crown Trophy of Mer-cerville specializes not only in tro-

phies but also plaques, medals, rib-

    bons, silkscreened and embroidered

    apparel, signs and banners, promo-

    tional products, corporate awards,

golf outing packages and much more.

One source of pride for Susan and

Matt is the Crown Trophy Student/Ath-

lete of the Month program which is

available to all area high schools as a

    free service. With this program

schools can select one student and

one female and male athlete each

month to be recognized for their per-

formance in the classroom and intheir chosen sport.

Many schools have had to cut

back on their awards programs to

their students and athletes, so we felt

the need to pick up the ball and run

with it for them. It is a great way for

the schools to recognize their stu-

dents and we provide the service at

no cost to the schools. said Roeloffs.

Any area high school interested in the

    Student/Athlete of the Month pro-

gram is urged to contact the store for

    more information about the program.

    When asked why Susan considers

her store the Best kept secret in Mer-

    cerville she replied. The funny

thing about our business is that peo-

ple dont really look for us until theyneed us. Dont let the name fool you

we do a lot more than just trophies

and strive to be your one-stop-shop

for your award and event needs.

Now the secret is out and Susan,

Matt and the entire team at Crown

Trophy of Mercerville hope to meet

    many new customers (which usually

    turn into friends) real soon.

Crown Trophy of Mercerville is lo-

cated in University Plaza, at 3257

    Quakerbridge Road in Mercerville.

    They are open Monday through

    Friday 9:30am-5:30pm with evening

hours until 7:00pm on Thursdays andSaturdays 9:00am-1:00pm. You can

WW-P NORTH AND SOUTH HIGH SCHOOLS WINTER SPORTS PREVIEW

    By NICK COHENThe Sun

These Pirates may just be get-ting their sea legs but that doesntaffect the expectations head boys

hockey coach Laurent Lassancehas for his team entering the sea-son.

Weve looked good so far, Las-sance said. We had a rough startwith our first scrimmage againstLawrence, but then we tied Acade-my of New Church in Pennsylva-nia, and we beat Notre Dameshalf varsity-half JV, and weve

just been building on and on fromthere.

WW-P South opened the regu-lar season with an 8-0 win Dec. 9against Steinert High School, be-fore playing to a tie with Prince-

ton High School on Dec. 11 andfalling to Robbinsville HighSchool on Dec. 13.

I told these guys, You had agood week last week, but this isthe week to see what were allabout, Lassance said on defeat-ing the Spartans. That was a

Despite teams youth, coachexpects to be a confident team

good test against Steinert, theyvehad our number the last coupleyears. Now we just have to keepthe ball rolling.

With only four seniors on theroster, the Pirates are certainlyyoung, but that doesnt necessari-ly mean inexperienced, as eightplayers are travel or club players, including seven underclassmen.

Junior forwards Brian Tso andJonathan Matthews are two un-derclassmen who expect to be bigcontributors this season.

Theyve taken a lot of bigsteps and are only going to con-tinue to improve as the seasongoes on, Lassance said.

Senior goalie Andrew Holubec, who also plays for the New JerseyTitans, is a large reason why Las-

sance is optimistic about histeams chances. In his first two

starts, Holubec made an astro-nomical 86 saves. He had 34against Steinert and made a hugeimpact on the outcome. Aftersplitting time with Karl Staffordlast season, he finds himself al-ternating again this year withPatrick Tso, Brians twin brother.Tso had 18 saves in the winagainst Lawrence.

Were very lucky to have notonly Andrew but we have Patrick, whos a very good goaltender as

well, Lassance said. Right now,Ill split time with them until I seewhos the hottest at the end of theseason. Theyre both very capableof taking over a game like An-drew did against Steinert. Werelucky to have two good goal-tenders. They have a healthy com-petition with each other and theyknow that. And theyre backingeach other up.

Despite the teams youth, Las-sance said he expects to improve

on last seasons success and to bea strong and confident teamthroughout the season.

The more we play togetherand practice together, the morethe results are going to go ourway, Lassance said.

The full Pirates roster is as fol-lows: Holubec, Adam Deslatte,Steven Cangelosi, Ben Starace,Patrick Menninger, Patrick Tso,Brian Tso, Matthews, MatthewSayde, Henry Wei, Rob Brown,

Shikky Rathor, Nishant Modi andJeremy Greener.
