for our six dogs,” explains Keith. “We were also attracted

by the Victorian charm and original features of the house,

but we’ve made many changes and improvements.”

“To get more light into the north facing hall we removed a wall, at the same time turning the staircase to

make it into a grand entrance,” recalls Jenny. “We removed

another wall between what had been a music room and a sun

room to create a modern sitting room, which opens on one hand

to the indoor pool and on the other to the garden. We retained

the drawing room and the dining room as traditional, Victorian

style formal rooms; shutters seal off the two dining room windows

that overlook the pool. Another major alteration was to join the

annexe to the house and provide a large contemporary dining

kitchen and family room, which I love – it’s my perfect kitchen.”

brilliant base for a party marquee,” continues Keith. “Adjoining the kitchen there’s

first floor of the original annexe and an ideal teenage den. We turned the basement

snooker room into an adult cinema room, which is also great for parties. The house

is fantastic for both the family and for entertaining.”

“We made various alterations to the first floor as well,” adds Jenny. “One bedroom now bridges the join between the house and the annexe; it has a vaulted ceiling,

bi-folding doors opening to a balcony, and access to the entertainment room. We also created a therapy room out of part of a large bathroom. The master bedroom suite, which has

a dressing room and a bathroom, has a massive footprint so, to break up the bedroom space, we made a raised area for the bed and installed fitted handmade oak furniture.

The location of the house is superb because you can walk to East Malling station, which connects to London Victoria, while all amenities, such as supermarkets, are also within easy

reach,” conclude Keith and Jenny. “East Malling itself has a village atmosphere and a friendly pub – it’s a lovely community and it has been so easy to make friends here.”
