1 It is time again to celebrate the beginning of the program year here at Wesley UMC, and I am excited to be a part of the journey this year. We are kicking back with a Welcome Back Sunday on Sunday, September 17. Our theme this year is New Beginnings that grow out of the fertile soil. There is rich history here at Wesley that has contributed to how we will grow into the future. To celebrate that we are asking everyone to think about their best memories of Wesley and their hopes for the future. We are going to have a place to turn those thoughts into a visible garden. If you are not able to be here, then please feel free to send you thoughts and ideas to Pastor Heather. As part of our celebration we will be planting and dedicating a tree in honor of Charles and Marie Fraiser. They will be joining us in worship that Sunday so that we can celebrate with them. We will be taking a photo- graph of everyone to commemorate the moment. We invite you to be there for this dedication, which will be a part of the service. Afterwards, we will enjoy the fellowship of a potluck brunch. Nothing is better than good food and good fellowship! I am so excited to be joining you here on your journey forward. I want to encourage everyone to come and talk with me. I have office hours on Monday 10:00-4:00PM right now (Doors are open while Judy is in the office, and you can buzz in afterwards.). Please do not hesitate to call or email with any questions, concerns, or to set a time to talk. Also, please let me know if there is anyone in need of visitation or about any emergencies that arise. I look forward to getting to know everyone, and to our journey together! In Christ, Pastor Heather Wesley United Methodist Church September 2017 Herald

United Methodist Women Summer is coming to an end and crisper days and cooler evenings are beginning to initiate the fall season. It is time for us to get together for our work in mission. Join us for a dinner meeting in the CUMC Fellowship Hall at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, September 20. Our hostesses will be serving assorted quiche, salad, and dessert for a $3 donation to cover food expenses. Our own Sarah Crass and Winnie Windsor will lead the program on a timely topic, ”Being a Domestic Violence Advocate”. Each participated in training sessions in order to be qualified to do this important work. Come and hear all about it! Sign up on The Table or contact Susan Richardson at 508-653-1998. Bring your ideas and gain new ones as we look at “A Thriving Earth & Thriving Lives: Our Environment Challenge!”. What Can WE Do? during our District UMW Fall Gathering on Saturday, September 30, hosted by Oakdale United Methodist Women in West Boylston, MA. Our earth needs our attention! How we are living on this planet is unsus-tainable, unjust in many cases, and wasteful. Communities of color, low-income communities, and tribal communities are disproportionately affected and particu-larly vulnerable. Making our own individual lifestyle changes are not enough by themselves but are a beginning, especially when many of us join together to bring about change. By learning more about wise sustainable practices, we can make better choices to change our thinking toward making our homes, our churches, our communities, and our environment healthier. Together, we can help repair and preserve the ecological wonder of God’s world. Emphasis for this day will be our environment with letters, craft project of your choice, action time, fun and fellowship, worship, and our UMW resources. Registration is $10 per person which includes lunch. A flier with other details will be available so sign up early. “THE POWER OF BOLD” ASSEMBLY 2018! Harriett Jane Olson, General Secretary of united Methodist Women writes: “It is with great pleasure that I invite you to plan to attend United Methodist Women’s 2018 Assembly in Columbus, Ohio, May 18-20, 2018.This Assembly is particularly momentous — it marks both the official celebration of our 150th anniversary and a return to the location of our first Assembly in 1942. …. The Power of Bold will be evident again …when 8000 women come to-gether in faith to address priority challenges of our day: mass incarceration, economic inequality, maternal and child health and climate justice….. I encourage you to make plans to attend and look forward to welcoming you at Assembly 2018.” Mark your calendars and think about attending. It is a wonderful experience!

Financial News September, 2017

Grace and peace to all!

As we start new church year, I hope that you all had a very restful

summer. One of the first functions of the Finance Committee at the start of

the church year is to run a Stewardship Campaign in which we ask for your

financial pledge for the upcoming year.

Let me look back and highlight two of the contributions that were made

during the 2016 year. These contributions were made by members who

submitted a pledge card and others who pledged but did not submit a card.

Of the 32 pledge cards we received by January 2016, we had a benevolence

contribution of $5,393.00. Current contribution expense was $74,122.00.

After our Steward Campaign in the fall of 2016, in January 2017 we received

23 pledge cards back. As of August 20, 2017 our benevolence pledge

contribution is $3,595.00. Our expense pledge contribution is $37,494.00.

With four months to go before the end of the year, let’s pray that we can

come close or better the 2016 contributions with less pledges.

Before the summer started, I asked that you check your street and those

close to you for Real Estate transactions. All I need from you is the address

of that location so that we can send them information about our church.

This is what I would like us to do for our Stewardship drive, which will start

the first week in October. On the last Sunday of October we will collect your

addresses and pledge cards.

Other news of interest; the roof repair campaign, which started last

September, raised $12,167 in less than eight months! Our thanks to all who

contributed to make this possible.

Lastly, your financial statement for the past six months is available. Please

check with someone from the finance team if you want a copy.

Financial Stewardship is a vital part of our Christian life, it enables us to

enrich and change the lives of those around us.
