Her dissertation research focused on tuberculosis (TB) treatment adherence in Russia. She will continue her relationships with UIC as a postdoctoral fellow. Woith is currently collaborating with colleagues in Russia on the development of a project that will be conducted in three phases. Phase 1 is designed to obtain data that will be used to identify learning needs of Russian health care workers in TB facilities related to the pathophysiology, transmission, and treatment of tuberculosis, as well as barriers, supports, and motivators to use of infection control measures. In Phase 2 a peer group intervention will be designed and piloted. The peer group intervention will be implemented and evaluated in Phase 3. Woith is interested in collaborating with nurses in Russia to share professional standards and procedures that are common in the United States. She is exploring the opportunity to work with colleagues in Russia, the CDC and the WHO in designing and testing a standardized curriculum for TB and TB infection control education for employees in TB facilities. To expand her international work further, Woith traveled to Vladimir in May 2007 with the Bloomington-Normal/Vladimir Sister Cities Medical Exchange Committee. During this trip she participated in working with family practice physicians and developing the family nurse role which will be similar to the family nurse practitioner. Woith’s interest in international health is clear. In addition to her dissertation which focused on populations in Russia, she was a co-investigator for a project titled Nursing Leadership Development in International Settings. She developed a student/faculty exchange program with the Vladimir Medical College nursing program, which included students from Russia traveling to Mennonite College of Nursing in fall 2007.
