They are very good at understanding the wider implications of why we want to run a course, and then providing us with a learning opportunity that fits. All too often I’ve seen a one-size-fits-all approach and it’s only about 60–70% relevant. However, with Coachwise they make sure it’s 100% relevant to you and your needs. Their experience in the sector is also reassuring. We were very happy with the outcome and look forward to those who attended qualifying as internal verifiers soon.’ Vicky Sutton, Coaching Advisor, WSA First internal verifier qualification training run in Wales All assessors to attain internal verifier qualification

Welsh Sports Association (WSA)

The WSA is an independent body that represents and supports all of the governing bodies ofsport and physical recreation in Wales. Along with Sport Wales they are responsible fororganising training opportunities to upskill the workforce for the country.

Coachwise was approached to train some of their staff, and identified assessors within thecountry, as internal verifiers in a closed-course environment.

Coachwise used sports coach UK’s Internal Quality Assurance Training to help their workforceachieve the 1st4sport Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processesand Practice (QCF).

Coachwise were able to:

• tailor the course to suit how the WSA would use and apply the learning

• provide relevant examples to help bring the practical application of internally verifying in sport to life

• provide the whole package – an easy way to get a group of employees qualified as internalverifiers.

As part of their continuing personal development (CPD) a mixed cohort of assessors attended thefirst verifying qualification training to run in Wales. Each learner will go on to qualify through thecollation of an evidence-based portfolio, with the support of the Coachwise Learning team.

Once they have achieved the qualification they will be able to internally verify for their respectivesports which initially will include angling, netball and hockey, but could also be expanded to othersports at a later date.

Achievement of the qualification will also enable the WSA to internally verify its two new REPsworkshops for personal trainers and fitness instructors, which they are developing in partnershipwith the Weightlifting Federation and Welsh Amateur Rowing Association.
