Coming into School
Your child will be expected to come into the classroom, put their things away and start their morning task. If the children need to change their reading book, they can do so at this point of the day. Doors will close at 8.40am, after this time you and your child will need to go around to the office to enter.
ExpectationsEach day, we expect the children to come into school wearing the Bramley School Uniform.
Bring in a named water bottle.
All jumpers/cardigans should be named.
No toys or pencil cases
No rucksacks or backpacks for safety reasons
Lunches are displayed on the board. There is a three week timetable.
PE kits need to be named and these will stay in school for a half term.
In winter, the children may well become cold, wet and muddy. A complete change of clothing is essential. Plain navy or black tracksuits (without obvious logos) may be worn in cold weather. Also a carrier bag to put dirty shoes in is useful.
MONDAY & WEDNESDAY
HomeworkAt the beginning of each half term, you will receive a list of topic ideas, a list of 10 spellings and some maths sheets for homework in the half term.
The expectation is that children:
• Learn the spellings (well!).
• Read at least 3 times a week.
• Complete 20 minutes of maths/topic homework weekly.
Homework will be collected in at the end of each half term and children will be tested on their spellings.
Reading at home
• Read at least 3 times per week.
• This needs to be recorded into their planners.
• Planners will be checked on a Thursday.
• Reading race
• Raffle tickets (1 ticket for reading 3/4 times and 2 tickets for reading 5 times).
Year 2 Autumn Topic
London’s Burning
We will be ending the topic with The Great Fire of Bramley. This term, please
concentrate your homework on building a house which can be built during this. The fire will be on Wednesday 23rd October at 9am.
You will be able to join us for this event.
Termly Overview
Numeracy
The children will be focusing
on place value, thinking about
tens and ones in two digit
numbers. We will also be
consolidating our knowledge
of number bonds and
applying these when doing
mental arithmetic. We will
look at improving our skills
and methods for all four
operations.
English
The children will be learning
how to use description to
write interesting stories.
They will also be learning
about using different
conjunctions to explain,
then learning about
firefighting equipment to
apply this to.
RE
The children will be learning about
celebrations and the different features
that celebrations have in common,
particularly Harvest festival.
PE
In outdoor PE, the children will be
learning ball skills and refining their
throwing and catching. In Indoor PE,
the children will be learning about
responding to music to create a
dance.
PSHE
We will be learning about new beginnings and
working on important skills like sharing, taking
turns and managing our feelings.
Computing
The children will be learning
about being safe online. This
will focus on learning about
what information is classed as
‘personal’, why it is important
not to share this online and
who their ‘trusted adults’ are.
Music
The children will be learning about pitch and rhythm
using their voices, singing in rounds to London’s
Burning.
History
The children will be researching The Great
Fire of London; looking at how it started,
how it spread and how it had an impact
upon modern-day firefighting and city
layouts.
Art and Design
The children will be creating silhouettes
and using pastels to create Great Fire of
London scenes.
Science
The children will be starting
a longitudinal study on
plants. They will look at
what conditions they need
to grow and how they
change over time.

There is also a section on reading and phonics.
Year 2 AssessmentYear 2 is a key assessment year in your child’s primary schooling. As a result, they will be taking the national curriculum tests (commonly called SATs) in May.
The tests can be taken any time during May and they are not strictly timed. Most pupils won’t know they are taking them as we keep them very low key and do not refer to them as tests.
We will use the results from these tests, along with the work your child has completed throughout the year, to help us reach our judgements about how your child is progressing at the end of key stage 1.
It is these teacher assessment judgements that will be reported to you by the end of the summer term.
We are really looking forward to this year!
