Indianism are speech errors caused when we translate directly from the mother tongue into English . Direct translation often leads to mis-communication. When translating from the primary language to English , the context could be lost and the consequences could be disastrous!

Indian speakers are comfortable responding to questions such as “What is your good name?” ( as a literal translation from Hindi “ Aap ka shubh naam kya hai?”) However native speakers would be confused with such colliqual speech,and wonder whether they have a bad name as well?

Other errors occur because of the difference in grammar and sentence construction between English and native Indian Languages.Incorrect: Where you are going today?Correct: Where are you going today?Incorrect: Are you liking Indian food?Correct: Do you like Indian food?

V’ – bite your lower lip ‘w’ - round your lips ‘Th’ should be soft ‘Sh’ and ‘s’ – don’t interchange Adding isss- before ‘s’ sound is incorrect. ‘J’ sound is different from z, zh. ‘J’ and ‘g’ sound are different. Words that end with –ed have a soft ‘t’ or ‘id’ ending

sound. Ending consonant sounds should not be harsh. Long ‘ee’ and short ‘i’ vowel sounds- don’t interchange
