For Each and Everyone Newly Arriving at our Patricia Garrison - Welcome to this Garrison, where Patricia’s and supporting people from all trades live and work together in a co-operative and supportive military atmosphere. If you are joining a Battalion or are Extra-Regimentally Employed on the Base, please feel free to keep in touch with whatever the other units of the base are doing. You can keep up with what is happening on the base through links and routine printed media that will be highlighted for you in this small package or in the Military Family Resource Centre (MFRC) Welcome Package. The Regiment – which includes every soldier of any trade posted to a PPCLI unit - is very committed to using social media effectively and you can start by following the posts and materials on ppcli.com (which features a regimental calendar and news) and ppcliassoc.ca (which has a branch directory – Edmonton Branch meets for a social drink monthly and hosts other activities – Herb Kenny is the President - [email protected]). This Base has many services and clubs, and I encourage you and/or your family to make a point of visiting the MFRC as a first step. You should have already received their Welcome Package, and it contains much good information. Keep it at hand for several months while you adjust to life in this Garrison. Take the time to visit the recreational facilities available to you and weave the use of these into your family routine. Everyone will benefit if you and your family are quickly settled in and integrated into the activities and opportunities that this base has and will offer to you. Please feel free to not only be active within your known circle but use the other places where you will meet other newcomers, such as the messes, the churches, the library, the clubs and fitness and retail facilities. Equally, if you or any member of your family needs help in any way – be it with identifying support needed, or help with a schooling issue, or other more personal issues, please make sure that you ask for assistance at your unit or at any of the appropriate agencies represented in the MFRC. We in the Regimental family have a non- judgmental approach to ensuring that the needs of our members and their families are seen to be important and addressed properly – by doing so we all benefit from improved force readiness and a happier community. You are joining a military community that is glad to see you and your family. Please take advantage of the resources that are here for you, and let your unit know if there are things that you believe can be done better. By joining into this community and contributing to it, you will find rewards that go beyond the basic return of a smile or a loaned book. You will find a bigger family and a happy community. Regimentally yours, Brigadier-General Vince Kennedy, OMM, MSM, CD Colonel of the Regiment Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry

PPCLI Association Membership
Always a Pabicia
The PPCLI Association has offered a free three-year National membership since May 2016. Very few released or retired Patricias take advantage of this offer. During the Regimental Strategic Planning Session held at CFB Edmonton on 9 August 2019, it was recommended that retiring and releasing members of the Regiment be automatically enrolled in the PPCLI Association. Accordingly, you will be registered in the PPCLI Association membership Data Base with a free three membership. If you do not wish to be a member, please advise RHQ accordingly.
The PPCLI Association traces its history to 1917 when the first PPCLI Service Clubs were established by wounded veterans returning from World War One. Rank was not important but being a Patricia meant the world. Men who were sent home and released because of their wounds sought out their comrades, forming loose groups that met on a regular basis discussing the war, their wounds and how best to try and fit into the regular world again. With the outbreak of World War Two, Patricia Service Clubs saw the Regiment off to war. They supported the Regiment by providing care packages and clothing to deployed soldiers.
On October 24th, 1947, Hamilton Gault, organized all clubs relating to the Regiment and formed the PPCLI Association for all ranks, retired and serving. On September 15\ 1953, the PPCLI Association was formally incorporated. The Association has kept abreast of changing times: in the 1990s, we sent care packages to the Regiment in the former Yugoslavia and in 2003, Operation Small Pack was started to support those who were injured and sent to Landstuhl Germany. This evolved into the Volunteer Patricia Program which was started to assist those returning to civilian life, and with PTSD.
Since June 2017, the Association has helped at least 100 individuals with problems ranging from PTSD, homeless, medical expenses or home modifications to dealing with VAC. To date, we have conducted eight Mental Health and Peer Support workshops and trained 184 volunteers across Canada and continue to strengthen this network.
We have all had to adjust to the transition of leaving our military career and the Regiment. For some this is a straightforward process. Others have had difficulty with
transitioning to a civilian career. PPCLI Association Members can assist you with this transition by providing a venue to meet, discuss their challenges with transition and at the same time retain a connection to the Regiment. There are currently 13 Branches across Canada and an E Branch as attached. I strongly urge you to accept the free three-year National membership and join a Branch.
