Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee. The darkness is no darkness with thee, but the night is as clear as the day. The darkness and the light to thee are both alike. God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. O let my soul live and it shall praise thee. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for evermore.

Prayer Led by Catherine Holt O, Almighty God of the spirits of all flesh, we give you thanks for those who gave their lives for our freedom and who are now at rest. May your love fill our souls with gratitude for their sacrifice. And may we, by living purposefully do your will in our daily living, continue to honour their sacrifice in our day by day work and play. Choral Benediction Nunc Dimittis G. Burgon (1941-2010) Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word. For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; To be a light to lighten the Gentiles, and to be the glory of thy people Israel.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be. Amen.

READINGS THIS WEEK

COLLECT O God, it is your will to hold both heaven and earth in a single peace. Let the design of your great love shine on the waste of our wraths and sorrows, and give peace to your Church, peace among nations, peace in our homes, and peace in our hearts; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. PRAYER OVER THE GIFTS God of compassion and forgiveness, receive our offering this day, and make us one with him who is our peace, Jesus Christ our Saviour. PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION Eternal God, in you we find peace beyond all telling. May we who share in this heavenly banquet be instruments of your peace on earth, in the name of Jesus Christ the Lord. MICAH 4:1-5 In days to come the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established as the highest of the mountains, and shall be raised up above the hills. Peoples shall stream to it, and many nations shall come and say: ‘Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Ja-cob; that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths.’ For out of Zion shall go forth in-struction, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. He shall judge be-tween many peoples, and shall arbi-

trate between strong nations far away; they shall beat their swords into ploughshares, and their spears into pruning-hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more; but they shall all sit under their own vines and under their own fig trees, and no one shall make them afraid; for the mouth of the Lord of hosts has spoken. For all the peoples walk, each in the name of its god, but we will walk in the name of the Lord our God for ever and ever. EPHESIANS 2:13-18 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For he is our peace; in his flesh he has made both groups into one and has broken down the dividing wall, that is, the hostility between us. He has abolished the law with its com-mandments and ordinances, so that he might create in himself one new humanity in place of the two, thus making peace, and might reconcile both groups to God in one body through the cross, thus putting to death that hostility through it. So he came and proclaimed peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near; for through him both of us have access in one Spirit to the Father. JOHN 15:5-17 I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in

them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing. Who-ever does not abide in me is thrown away like a branch and withers; such branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask for whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. My Fa-ther is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit and become* my disciples. As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you; abide in my love. If you keep my command-ments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s com-mandments and abide in his love. I have said these things to you so that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete. ‘This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. I do not call you servants* any longer, because the servant* does not know what the master is doing; but I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from my Father. You did not choose me but I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask him in my name. I am giving you these commands so that you may love one another.

PSALM 127 Chant No. 2

Unless the Lord / builds the house,* their labour is in / vain who build it.

Unless the Lord watches / over the city,* in vain the watchman / keeps his vigil.

It is vain that you rise so early and go to / bed so late,* vain, too, to eat the bread of toil for he gives to his be-/lov-ed sleep.

Children are a heritage / from the Lord,* and the fruit of the womb / is a gift.

Like arrow in the hands / of a warrior* are the children / of one’s youth.

Happy is the man who has his quiver / full of them!* He shall not be put to shame when he contends with his enemies / in the gate. Little Child So Loved and Cherished

Thanks for a Time to Heal: Building a Legacy of Hope Reception and Choral Evensong It was glorious to see so many in the Cathedral for the Cho-ral Evensong of Thanksgiving and Reconciliation with our Primate on October 22. The music was food for the soul; the liturgy uplifting; and our Primate riveting – the eyes of eve-ryone were on Archbishop Fred! The Open House Reception that preceded the service offered great hospitality. Thank you to all who made the special event possible: Dean Paul, Paul Halley and the Cathedral Choir, The St. Catherine’s Group, and all who attended and supported the Anglican Healing Fund. The Cathedral was able to offer a bit over $7,000 and the offering that evening, independent of the Ca-thedral contribution, was a little over $7,000! We are remind-ed of Archbishop Fred’s hope and prayer that we remain firm in our resolve to support healing and reconciliation . . . so that the future will be marked by a profound respect for the dignity with which the Creator has endowed all peoples, and by that harmony with which the Creator would have us live – in relations that are good and right and just for all.

There are always store-bought cookies available so baking is not a requisite. For an-yone who is unfamiliar with the kitchenette, there are “old hands” happy to partner with any newcomers who are in-terested and able to help. Please speak with Margie Cooper, Geraldine May, Kathie Swenson, or Sarah in the office, if you would like further information.
