The Befriender Ministry—“Nonjudgmental presence.” The third principle of the Befriender Ministry provides a sacred and safe space for someone to talk about their experiences, thoughts, and feelings without being judged or criticized. What a gift that can be to someone. Are you the person who can offer it?
Emmaus News
from the Archdiocese of Dubuque…
Last week we received confirmation from the Archbishop and the Office of Leadership Development and Pastoral Planning that the status of our parishes has been changed from “linked” to a “cluster.” While it will not change anything we have been doing so far, it is an official recognition of our structure. While each individual parish has standing committees, we also have meetings with Emmaus Council, Emmaus Faith Formation, Emmaus Worship/Liturgy—with representatives from all five parishes. May Christ continue to guide and bless us!

Summer School
“For the Son of Man has come to seek
and to save what was lost.” Luke 19:10
Jesus made lost people his priority.
And He went out of his way (way, way
out of His way) to do it. He spent
time where they spent time. He knew
how to talk to them and what was
important to them. He recognized
their worries, fears, sorrows, and sins.
He understood their hearts, and He
loved them by making an investment in
them. Jesus found lost people and
then He made them disciples. Rebuilt, 40
Reflection Question for this Week How often do you think about
“who’s not here”?
What do you do about it?
Wedding Bells in your future? Terrific! The Church is excited to assist you in preparing for your lifelong commitment! Some quick points to be aware of:
• Marriage preparation usually begins at
least six months prior to a desired wedding date.
• No dates are scheduled until the couple meets with
the pastor and fills out the necessary documents for marriage.
• If one or both have been in a previous marriage
regardless of denomination or marriage by a justice of the peace, a Decree of Nullity (Annulment) will need to be obtained.
The best thing to do is contact the Church as soon as you are engaged so that we can help you right from the start!
Totus Tuus Program
Totus Tuus is a summer catechetical program for youth. Students of the Emmaus Pastorate are invited to participate in this year’s program
at the Trinity Cluster (St. Patrick Parish, Monona). Totus Tuus is a unique and fun-filled camp featuring a team of four trained young adults who will engage youth with a week-long faith-based program. The week is packed with skits, songs, games, and inspiring teaching.
The day program (July 23-27) is open to students entering grades 1-6. The night program (July 22-26) is open to students entering grades 7-12.
If you have any questions or are interested and in need of carpooling, please contact Sara Hertrampf (563-245-3399).
To register, go to the website: http://www.trinitycluster.com/Totus-Tuus.

Countering the Myths Immigrants don’t want to learn
English—FALSE
The development of English proficiency
among non-English speaking immigrants today
mirrors that of Nineteenth and early
Twentieth century immigration, when masses
of Italian, German, and Eastern European
immigrants came to America. While first
generation, non-English speaking immigrants
predictably have lower rates of English
proficiency than native speakers, 91% of
second generation immigrants are fluent or
near fluent English speakers. By the third
generation, 97% speak English fluently or
near fluently.

Reflection from Pope Francis Giving Your Life for the Truth
June 24—The Nativity of St. John the Baptist
One of those who gave his life for the truth is John the Baptist...June 24 is his great feast, the solemnity of his birth...He died for the sake of the truth, when he denounced the adultery of King Herod and Herodias. How many people pay dearly for their commitment to truth! Upright people who are not afraid to go against the current! How many just men prefer to go against the current, so as not to deny the voice of conscience, the voice of truth! And we, we must not be afraid!
—Angelus address, June 23, 2013
Reflection—-It is hard to stand up for the truth in our culture today. How can you stand up for truth in your decisions at work and in your family?
Summer Reading List?
