Creating A Safer Patient Environment Is Your Top Priority• Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAIs) are a serious threat, a common complication of

hospital care, and one of the top 10 leading causes of death in North America.

• Recent studies have shown that the proper cleaning and disinfection of surfaces plays a critical role in reducing the risk of HAIs and improving patient outcomes.

• The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Guidelines recommend proper surface disinfection as one of the most important environmental controls to reduce HAIs.

• Today’s healthcare professionals need disinfectants that are fast and effective.

“Ideally product users should consider and use products that have a shortened contact time.”

Hazardous toHumans & Animals No Yes Yes Yes Yes

Why is 200ppm HOCl harmless to humans and other mammals?Certain white blood cells have the responsibility to help us resist infection. The white blood cells that help us fi ght bacteria are called neutrophils. In response to the presence of pathogens, they invoke a process known as phagocytosis. During this process, the blood cell envelops the pathogen and chemically created hypochlorous acid kills the invading pathogen instantly. Simply put, our bodies produce hypochlorous acid (HOCl) and recognize it.

Why Is TK60 So Effective?

Percent Chlorine As HOCl or OCl-TK60 is a 200ppm solution of water and Hypochlorous acid, HOCl. TK60 is also chlorine dissolved in water, but at a pH of 3.75-5.5, where HOCl is the dominant species and there is very little OCl- present. This is why TK60 is so effective against bacteria, viruses, and spores at such low ppm concentrations; you are producing the part of bleach that does the killing, so high concentrations are not necessary to get the job done.

One reason HOCl is more effective against pathogens vs OCl- is due to the neutral charge of HOCl. Typically, cell walls have a slight negative charge, which makes it very diffi cult for negatively charged OCl- to penetrate cell walls (opposite charges attract, like repels like). HOCl, being a neutral species, has less of an issue with the negative charge on the cell wall, so it passes through more easily, destroying the cell of the pathogen that gets in its way. HOCl is also a stronger oxidizer compared to OCl-, which aids in the destruction of pathogens due to oxidative stress. Another advantage of HOCl, is that it does not interact with any of the cell’s protoplasm, which makes it impossible for pathogens to create resistant strains against it.

Why is HOCl more effective than OCl- at killing pathogens?

To understand the answer to this question, it’s important to understand the difference between HOCl and OCl-.When chlorine dissolves in water, the Percent Chlorine As HOCl and OCl- is determined by the pH. Bleach has a pH of around 12 due to the presence of NaOH, so the solution consists of mainly hypochlorite (OCl-) with very little hypochlorous acid (HOCl) present. (See graph.) HOCl is the primary reactive species (the species that kills pathogens,) in sodium hypochlorite bleach, NaOCl, solution. Because there is a low concentration of HOCl in bleach, it must be used at high concentrations to be effective. High concentrations of bleach have long been trusted to be very effective against harmful pathogens, but these high concentrations are harmful to humans and can damage surfaces.

Why does FC+ work so well?

Deeper Cleaning with FC+

Other ingredients added to soaps and detergents are put there to smell, bubble, and produce suds. Many of these unnecessary compounds can react with Calcium and Magnesium in hard water, leaving behind an insoluble soap scum residue. People are familiar with soap scum that can be left behind in sinks and showers, but often overlook the fact that the chemistry is the same when it comes to cleaning fl oors and carpets. Over time, insoluble soap and detergent residue may build up on fl oors and become embedded in carpets. On hard fl ooring, this residue may leave a slippery fi lm that attracts dirt. On carpets, the embedded residue will help trap dirt and grime, often leading to dark spots or a general graying of the carpet especially in high traffi c areas. These residues can also trap odor causing bacteria that lead to unpleasant smells.

FC+ is comprised of 99.95% water and .05% Sodium Hydroxide, (NaOH). NaOH is a principle component in many soaps and detergents for good reason; it is the ingredient that actually does ‘the work.’ NaOH creates soap when used on oils and fats in a process called saponifi cation.

How does FC+ reverse the signs of aging?Sodium hydroxide, the active component in FC+, is a commonly used precipitating style water softening agent. Sodium hydroxide works as a water softener agent by reacting with Calcium and Magnesium in water and forming insoluble and nearly insoluble hydroxides which can be rinsed away. Sodium hydroxide is also effective at removing already formed and built up soap scumresidue by: (1) increasing the Sodium content in the water and driving the soap scum formation reaction backwards, and (2) by reacting with excess Calcium and Magnesium in the water and restoring the solubility of the built up soap scum. When these build-ups are removed, odor causing bacteria are removed with them.

Another issue with soaps and detergents is that they require a signifi cant amount of water to completely rinse away residue. When used as directed or using the “more is better” mixing method, residues of the active chemicals themselves will also be left behind. These residues can lead to decreased traction (coeffi cient of friction) on fl oors; elevating the risk of slips and falls.

How Saponifi cation Occurs When Using FC+ to Clean

FC+ and lipids mix to create pure soap.

FC+ comes into contact with oils and fats (lipids).

The pure soap loosens lipids, dirt, and grime.

Surface Compatibility

Is TK60 corrosive? No, TK60 is not corrosive. TK60 is a hospital grade disinfectant composed of 99.98% water and 0.02% HOCl (hypochlorous acid). The TK60 disinfectant solution produced by the R-Water TC-RU device is created by actually splitting salt (sodium chloride) apart with “smart” ion selective transfer membranes, and using the chloride ions to produce TK60. As such, TK60 has a very low salt content of about 0.248 g/L. As a comparison, fresh drinking water is defi ned as having a salt content less than or equal to 0.500 g/L. Therefore, corrosion due to salinity is a non-issue.

Another reason TK60 is non-corrosive is because it has a very short contact time and evaporates quickly. The low, 200 ppm FAC content of TK60 (HOCl), rapidly decreases during the specifi ed 60 second contact time due to reactions with organic material, such as pathogens.

Can FC+ be used on a variety of surfaces?Yes. FC+ is an all-purpose cleaner and degreaser composed of 99.95% water and .05% NaOH. The powerful FC+ solution produced by the R-Water TC-RU device is created by splitting salt (sodium chloride) apart with “smart” ion selective transfer membranes, and using the sodium ions to produce FC+.

In addition to using FC+ for mopping, surface and spot cleaning, the solution can be added to a variety of fl oor cleaning equipment, including auto scrubbers, carpet cleaners, extractors, and power washers.

FC+ can be safely used to clean a variety of surfaces including tile, stone, grout, porcelain, marble, granite, limestone, slate, wood, carpet, concrete, and brick.

TC-RU Network RequirementsThe TC-RU unit sends out status packets to our server at rwater-log.com on port 80 (standard HTTP web traffi c request with a stripped-down header). Remote controlling of the machine works via the response packet. Direct connection into the network from the outside is not necessary; the machine should be set up such that it would be able to browse the web (specifi cally rwater-log.com). By default, the TC-RU is set up to send out a small (~ 0.3 kB) packet every 30 seconds with general diagnostic information. The information in this packet is hard coded in the fi rmware, and includes information such as driver status, driver current, tank levels, cell voltage, and current. Commands that R-Water is able to send to the device are also hard coded in the fi rmware and are limited in their scope.

The easiest and most secure network setup is a VLAN with DHCP. The TC-RU can then simply be plugged into the Ethernet drop. VLAN is advantageous because the TC-RU traffi c can easily be isolated from the internal network and R-Water can use it with DHCP. If required, DHCP can be turned off and a static IP address, netmask, gateway, and DNS servers can be assigned. This route however, is not preferred.

Confi guration• Internet access preferred to allow

Remote Monitoring

• Allow port 80 access to the internet (standard HTTP web traffi c)

• Allow domain “rwater-log.com” to be resolved via 8.8.4.4 (default), or DHCP/static DNS supplied by network administrator

• DHCP served IP preferred (VLAN with DHCP recommended for facilities with specifi c security requirements)

• Static IP can be used if DHCP is not possible

• If MAC address is needed, we can supply upon request

Hardware• Ethernet cable drop

• Two 110V power outlets, one for TC-RU and one for networking equipment (If water softener is used, three outlets will be needed)
