On Christmas Day 2010 we sat 500 people for Christmas Lunch at the Adelphi Hotel

Liverpool, for people who would otherwise be alone on this special day.

Last year the charity took 100 young carers from Barnardo’s along with Esther McVey M.P. and waved off by the Lord Mayor of Liverpool to a day out in Blackpool. They were treated to lunch at the Savoy Hotel, Blackpool Circus, the Illuminations and the big treat of the day McDonald’s!

We also took them to the Empire Theatre, Liverpool to see Aladdin starring Pamela Anderson and meeting the stars after the show.As many of these young carers come from one parent families some of these children have to go without Christmas presents because of their fi nancial situation. The charity has now solved all their problems and now they wake up on Christmas morning to a Christmas they had never expected with gifts for themselves, a gift for their parents and a huge hamper delivered by Marks and Spencer.

We took 200 children in care to the Theatre Royal, St Helens to see Jack and the Beanstalk.

I won! Many thanks to everyone who voted for me to win the prestigious Downtown Liverpool in Business “Lifestyle” award in recognition of the magazine and Liverpool

Fashion Week’s dedication to promoting Liverpool as a fabulous place to live and work. I am so proud to live and work in this fabulous city with so many wonderful people. Having lived all over the country as a freelance

setting down roots here 9 years ago was the best decision of my life and my favourite city in the UK. Thank you to everyone who voted for me.It’s the most wonderful time of the year! I love Crimbo! This month we’re ensuring you stay happy with some exclusive book extracts from my favourite television presenter, Keith Lemon, who recently came to town. And we chat to the lovely Comedy Dave who works alongside Chris Moyles on the Radio 1 breakfast show.As we leave 2011, Lifestyle remains stronger than ever with a string of successful events under our belt. Liverpool Fashion Week was the most successful fashion event this city has ever held, with international media coverage from Spain, Brazil and the USA, putting Liverpool

Merseysiders are getting out and about on their bikes more than ever before, with a 25% increase in cycling since 2006.

More and more people are opting to cycle some or all of their way to work, there’s also a rise in cycling for pleasure, with the increasing popularity of organised cycle rides and people choosing cycling as a healthy hobby for all the family.

One thing that’s helping people feel more confident about their journey is a massive cycle training and skills programme. Merseyside offers the largest Bikeability programme in the UK, training children to cycle to national standards. Adults are becoming skilled too, from learning to ride and finding quiet routes to cycling safely in traffic; as well as being offered bike maintenance sessions. A range of cycle maps and infrastructure improvements are also helping to make it easier for people to get around by bike.

Keen cyclist Amanda Dufresne said:”Since taking up cycling I’ve developed more stamina and I’m feeling fitter than ever. I cycle to work, which saves me money and I also use my bike when I’m visiting friends or nipping to the shops, because it’s a quick and reliable way to get around”

Neil Scales, Merseytravel Chief Executive added: “Through our TravelWise campaign cycling is a key part of our drive to encourage sustainable transport and to meet our targets for reducing carbon emissions and traffic congestion across Merseyide, so this increase is really positive news.”

Culture or Corruption… liverpool’s hottest, AwArd

winning Clothing lAbel!Founded by three designers from Liverpool, Bradley, Jason and Dayne. This group of budding

designers have been keen to develop and launch their own bespoke clothing brand with the desire to make an imprint on Liverpool’s fashion network, launching with only men’s garments, but

moving into ladies wear in future seasons.

Last year, their promising label won an astonishing, best business award as well as funding and support from one of the country’s leading brands, 02. These unique designs are based on ‘Classic America’ using inspiration from the years 1920-1950.

‘Liverpool Fashion Week’ was the official taster of Culture or Corruption, where their capsule collection was successfully exposed for the first time! The Autumn/Winter 2011 collection released by Culture or Corruption is men’s attire, providing a new style and a new trend to men’s clothing.

December is a hectic month full of shopping, decorat-ing, celebrating, eating and partying. With so much to do and so little time the added stress of what to wear on all of these occassions can be all too much. This is why I’ve put together a style bible to make sure you look on trend

and fabulous throughout the festive period.

First things first we need to get shopping. The chilly weather calls for us to wrap up warm but don’t forget the hustle and bustle inside the shops. Layering is key. Have a bit of fun and get into the festive spirit with a novelty jumper which are a key trend this sea-son. Get down to Topshop or River Island to find your own or why not pick up a vintage find from one of the vintage shops throughout

Liverpool? Dare to be different. Another must have is a lovely warm coat and this year the key trend is anything with an oversized fur collar. Marks and Spen-cer’s have a lovely range of coats and are winning in the style stakes this year. Can’t afford a brand new coat? Update last years with

a detatchable faux fur collar. To top off your outfit why not try a cosy hand knitted headband from Rubie Locks? The perfect addition to your outfit without giving you hat hair.

After shopping for gifts you now need to prepare for your christmas night out with your work colleagues. The key here is elegant and classy - remember you will meet them at the photocopier on Monday morning! The foolproof option is a little black dress or why not mix it up with this seasons midi pencil skirt with a hint of leather (but not too much). Accessorise your outfit with some statement pieces. Get glam with a jewelled collar or a Rubie Locks velvet turban. Or why not try adding in some of this seasons favourite print? A dalmation print bag or pair of shoes will send you to the top of the style stakes. Top it off with festive berry lips and your good to go.

Next stop is the big one we have been count-ing down to- Christmas day! My tip is to dress smartly but with comfort in mind. Something loose to allow your Christmas dinner to fit in with ease. A cute dress with a peter pan col-lar would be perfect. Finish off with a pair of quirky tights and this season’s hottest shoe- the Chelsea boot. A midi heel is ideal and will see you through the rest of the winter allow-ing you to strike the balance between casual

and smart. Head down to Office in Liverpool One to find your own.

After all of the preparation for Christmas we must not forget New Year’s Eve. Start 2012 in style with a show stopping outfit and lots of sparkle. This winter sequin dresses are everywhere and in every shade. If you don’t have theconfidence to wear a whole glittering outfit tap in to this key trend with a glittering pair of ankle boots and sweep some glitter over your eyes. Start the year as you mean to go on - feeling fabulous! Wishing you all a fun filled and stylish Christmas.

Comedy by name…comedy by nature!

Lifestyle talks exclusively to Comedy Dave: Dave Vitty

Celebrity Interview

Page 17: Welcome to the December issue of Lifestyle Magazine

Comedy by name…comedy by nature!

Dave Vitty studied Radio Production at college in Warrington, but never had any ambitions to be on-air. He began working as a copywriter and then moved onto becoming a broadcast

assistant for Radio 1 on 5 December 1996. Of course everything changed back in 1997 when destiny called and he met Chris Moyles ,they got on like a house on fire, so much so that Moyles invited him to work with him on his early morning show. And the rest as they say is history!

He is now the head writer of The Chris Moyles Show and no less than ‘Director of Comedy’, but he is looking towards the heady heights of literary prestige, because doesn’t everybody want to see their own name in ink? After all, every celeb and their mother/hairdresser/dentist seem to be churning them out these days. And if they can do it, why can’t he?

His first attempt at being a “proper writer” is a collection of questions, theories, short stories, poems, pictures and anecdotes which are all tediously linked together in his own unique and charming style. Suffice to say, it’s unlikely to win the Booker Prize, but it will give you a bit of a giggle while sitting on the toilet! I managed to catch up with him between book signings, here’s what he had to say…………....

What made you decide to get the creative juices flowing and try your hand as a writer by putting pen to paper?I have always, always wanted to be a writer, ever since I did a media course at college in Warrington. As the listeners of our Radio 1 show will know I already write for the Chris Moyles Show and have done so for years, but I have always wanted to be a columnist or write a book. Consequently, when I was offered the chance, I grabbed it with both hands. I thought it was a massive honour and way too good an opportunity to possibly turn down. So I did it, and I am really pleased with it, I think it is funny and I hope many people will agree and enjoy reading it.

In a few words what is the book about? And why should it be at the top of our Christmas lists? It’s just a random collection of stories about me and what I have been involved with from over the years. There are many tales about the Moyles show, bits about Folkface, some silly spoof adverts, a Q&A section and a load of pictures from my phone. It’s the perfect book for people with a short attention span, as it’s not in any way intellectual and is extremely put downable!

Unfortunately you lost your place in the Guinness book of world records for the worlds longest radio title. Do you think you would ever be tempted in trying to win it back?No thanks! I don’t feel any desire to stay away for 50 odd hours again. It sent me a bit mental last time, it was seriously hard work and it really took it out of me and the rest of the team, and I didn’t like it.

Would you ever go on the “Coach Trip?”Oh yeah absolutely! I love Coach Trip and Brendan is a true comedy genius. I’m really chuffed to be part of the show, if they asked I would defo get involved properly, and go on the coach to Lithuania or Lisbon or somewhere like that.

Are we going to see you throwing some shapes and swinging your hips on the dance floor on Strictly Come Dancing next year now you’ve finished Dancing on Ice?

That, you never know! It is a great idea and I am available, and would really love to give it a go one day. I think after I showcased my natural ability through the medium of ice dancing, then Strictly would be the obvious next step; they should give me a ring! Ha ha ha.

As a well known huge Everton Fan how often to you manage to get to the game, home or away?I try to get there as much as I possibly can. I have got a season ticket in the paddock, and get to about half the home games in a season, the seat is never empty though because when I can’t make it there my cousin’s wife who is also a blue nose is more than pleased to use my seat. I also get to pretty much all the away games in or around London. There’s a load of exiled Evertonians down here, and we all take it in turns to sort out tickets for the away games.

Back in September you did a radio 1 broadcast from Liverpool, was it fun and did it feel like you were more on home turf?Yeah, it was fab; we had a great time thank you. We went out for a lovely Indian meal at ‘East is East’ over by the Echo Arena, and then carried on for a few drinks in ‘Schmooze’ which is just off Allerton Road, with our competition winner Steve Lee and a few his mates. We had a really good laugh, and yeah it’s always nice to get back to Liverpool. It is big a shame it was only a flying visit as unfortunately I had to disappear straight after the show the next morning.

So, you’re a radio star, a folk star and a now a writer, what do you plan to become in 2012?The plan for 2012 is to still be a radio star, folk star and best selling author! I don’t know really. I am really very lucky to do what I do, and of course very thankful, so long may that continue! The primary goal for next year as always is to keep the Chris Moyles Show on the number one spot; as it is always important to never take your eye off the ball.

Do you have any exciting or romantic plans for Christmas, or are you more of a New Year fan? It’s Christmas all the way for me! The plan for Christmas this year is for me and my daughter Nicole to spend Christmas Day at my mum’s down south, along with the rest of the family. Then we’ll go up to Wakefield after Boxing Day to have ‘Christmas Day 2’ with Nicole’s mum Jayne and Nicole’s grandparents.

As you are also known as a DJ, have you got any New Year gigs where you will be playing? This New Years Eve I am DJing at Tiger Tiger in Leeds, which I’ve done for the last 2 years, and is always a really great night!

And lastly I have to ask, how did you get the nick name Comedy Dave?It was on the Moyles show. We had comedian Lee Hurst on the show and he asked who I was, I replied “Super Dave,” to which Lee sarcastically responded “Comedy Dave more like” and it stuck!

RAY QUINN HELPS LIVERPOOL EMPIRE AND ATG CELEBRATE LAUNCH OF UK’S

BIGGEST THEATRE MEMBERSHIP SCHEME.

ID PIX

Ray Quinn, who recently starred as Danny in Grease at the Liverpool Empire, unveiled the brand new ATG Theatre Card – the UK’s biggest theatre membership scheme. This exciting scheme was also launched nationally in London this week by The Ambassador Theatre Group’s Joint CEO & Creative Director, Howard Panter and Joint CEO, Rosemary Squire alongside cast members from Ghost The Musical.

ATG Theatre Card is the very first UK wide Theatre Card, offering a range of benefits that customers can use in their local theatre, for example Liverpool Empire, alongside other ATG theatres in major cities (including ATG’s West End venues) and tourist areas around the UK.

ATG Theatre Card benefits include priority tickets, ticket offers (including half price on selected shows), no booking or postage fees on most shows, priority brochure mailing, fee free ticket exchange, 10% savings on pre show and interval drinks, free cloakroom and the biggest bonus

is that the exclusive card is accepted at 39 venues across the UK and in the West End. Members will also have the chance to attend special events such as launch nights and Q&A’s with cast and creative teams.

The ATG Theatre Card costs £30 and allows customers to buy up to 4 tickets per show.

Karen Cody, ATG Theatre Card Manager, said: “It is the perfect membership card to ensure customers get the seats they want, for the performance they want and at the price they want.”

Howard Panter, ATG Joint CEO & Creative Director, said: “The unique feature of the ATG Theatre Card is that it gives our loyal customers exclusive access to benefits and special offers across our entire portfolio of UK venues including 12 in the West End.”

There is also one website address and one telephone number for all ATG Theatre Card members, www.atgtickets.com/theatrecard and 0844 871 7633.

Ahhh December – my favourite time of year! Doesn’t Liverpool look lovely and festive now that the lights have been switched on?

We have some early festive presents at the Echo Arena so anyone who pays a visit during the remainder of 2011 is in for a real treat – Paul McCartney, Duran Duran, The Saturdays, Kasabian and QuoFestive with Status Quo, Roy Wood & Kim Wilde are just some of the acts who will be performing! Arctic Monkeys played to a packed out Echo Arena in November – the band seemed to have a great time with lead singer Alex declaring that ‘Liverpool makes me feel good’! They’ve changed a lot from their early days, now with a very polished set and confident on stage presence – in my opinion they totally smashed it! We’ve had some fantastic new on-sales over the past few weeks for 2012 – Torvill & Dean’s Dancing on Ice returns in May, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds will be here in September, and Liverpool’s favourite funny man John Bishop is

back for 4 huge dates in October…and that’s just the edited highlights! Make sure you visit echoarena.com for more information– it may give you some present-buying inspiration! I’ve no doubt that there are many Lifestyle readers who are fellow X Factor addicts like myself so hopefully you’ve all been voting Scouse! Despite Craig recently being voted off I think he’s done a fantastic job and it’s not the last we’ve seen of him as he’ll be at the Echo Arena in February along with Marcus, Kitty, The Risk, Little Mix, Misha B & more as part of the X Factor Live tour. I have my fingers tightly crossed that Marcus will make it all the way to the final – I remember catching his first audition here back in July and he definitely stood out even then!

Well that’s it from me for this year. I hope you all enjoy the festive season and wish you a happy & healthy 2012 – see you in January for the lowdown on more quality live entertainment! And remember… #votescouse!

Guests and staff where served canapes from the soon to open Ludus Bar & Lounge on Bold St. The company bought Victoria Court earlier this year as a derelict building within a conservation area but has since spent £960,000 on its conversion, creating 54 new fully-furnished rooms which each contain a 22” wall-mounted LCD TV. The building also has an onsite gymnasium, office and printing centre and will be managed by Middle England Developments’ sister firm, Penlake.

UNDER 1 ROOFNovember saw the opening a very unique property office in Knowsley. Under 1 Roof is a property drop-in centre aimed at sellers, buyers, renters and landlords and anyone who has a financial issue, whether it is property related or not. The team and partners have a combined 30 plus years of experience in property sales, lettings, property investment, mortgages and debt solutions. You can bet that whatever comes in through their door, they have seen it, experienced it, and created a solution for it, all before. They have a winning formula that has been working well elsewhere in the UK and when an opportunity arose to bring their services to Liverpool, they jumped at the chance. Unlike an Estate Agency, they look at the wider issues that people face when they are thinking of selling their homes. Under 1 Roof offer a Government approved Rent 2 Own Scheme, which aims to get first time buyers onto the property ladder as well as providing sales for people with no or even negative equity who up until now could not move as there was no solution. In other words if you have a property with no or negative equity, your chance of moving were nil. With the opening of Under 1 Roof in Kirkby Inn Shops, now there is. As the John Wilson Orchestra comes to the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic this month,

we chat to the extraordinarily talented musician, John Wilson.

John Wilson is world renowned conductor, arranger and film music expert, was given per-mission by Warner Bros, then rights holders to the MGM film

catalogue to reconstruct the scores from the MGM film musicals. This project took ten years as in 1969 the studeio decided to destroy scores to many of their legendary film classics such as The Wizard of Oz, Meet me in St Louis and An American in Paris.

John said, “A lot of the original film scores were destroyed, ever note of every film

made for every MGM musical since the late 20s and early 30s was destroyed and I have rewritten them by listening to them over and over again and watching the movies.”

He says there is a real need for this as all his concerts have been sell outs, the last one at the Royal Albert Hall for 6500 people sold out 4 hours, the previous concert sold out in 15 minutes.John says, “ I have to thank Glee really as it has opened up music to a whole new generation. Obviously we get the older crowd who were around in the 1950s and loved it first time round. Then we get the middle aged crowd who just love a bit of nostalgia and of course the kids who are experiencing it for the first time.”

The orchestra is made up of 80 people and John reckons that the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall is one of the best. The crowd is also fantastic, really lovely people, the response we get is wonderful He says,

“It is the best in the country and the sound is fantastic.”

John has worked with Seth McFarlane - of Family Guy fame, - on the album and says of him “He is very funny, a lovely guy.”

“That’s Entertainment: A celebration of the MGM Film Musical” CD is out now and has charted at no 15 in the UK national Album charts.

How did you get into djing?I have a few friends that also dj, i started to listen to their recorded mixes and i got the urge to learn myself. Best thing i have ever done! You caused quite a reaction at LFW, why are you so popular?I don’t know haha! I’m out to make people happy with music and for every chance i get to do that and succeed at it makes me happy. If the crowd are happy then i am very happy! Who do you dj for?I currently dj at Bar on Myrtle Street on Tuesday’s & Wednesday’s Modo on Thursday’s Tiger Tiger in Manchester on Saturdays How do you spot a good track?Well when i look for songs i always look for a sense of unpredictability, something to catch the crowd off guard with. When i do manage to find a great track it gives any dj a buzz that will send a crowd wild with. What is your favourite audience?Any audience that enjoys the music as much as i enjoy playing it wins my appreciation! How will you be partying over the Christmas period?I’ll be DJing over most of the Christmas period. Any time that i do have free will be spent with my family & working towards my next gig.

What would be your ideal party that you are invited to?This is a tricky one, any party that would involve me working with

the likes of Afrojack, Bingo Players or Alesso would be my dream party What is your best experience to date with your work?well in my under 18 days, my best experience was working at a under 18’s event, i had djd for a crowd over 500 people it felt unreal! But lately it would have been working @ modo for the Liverpool Fashion week, it was probably my most important set to date and i don’t think i have enjoyed a set as much as that one.

How do you prepare for a set?I try and keep relaxed as possible & not to panic, i always go in with a mind set of how i want to work the crowd and what sort of atmosphere i want to fill the venue with. I also like to go in prepared with a “variety drop “i like to call it, keeping the crowd on its toes. Where do you see yourself in 3 years?i hope to see myself djing in different countries in a few years, I’ve always wanted to dj in America so i hope i achieve that target soon!

As Lifestyle enjoys the hottest nightspot in Liverpool.

We chat exclusively to George Panayiotou part of The Ability Group the owning family behind the Hilton Liverpool. What is your business background?I worked closely with my father in our build to let property portfolio that spanned over 7,000 apartments across London. Then I worked alongside another manager to manage all the let’s before we sold out a chunk off the portfolio to the Grainger fund at the height of the property boom. Then moved to the Ability Headquarters beside my father assisting and working on hotel transactions, refurbishments, marketing and design off the assets we purchased.

What other business interests do you have?We own a house we have on Billionaires Row on the Bishops Avenue in London called Heath Hall that we are currently marketing at 100m (one of most expensive houses on UK market currently) The Ability Group purchased and refurbished this phenomenal asset once owned by the Tate & Lyle family. Our family have also build and just recently launched our new Syon Park Hotel in The Duke of Northumberland’s Syon Park the Grade 1 parkland estate in London, this is the only country estate hotel in London Waldorf Astoria are managing the hotel on our behalf and its the first out the US where the Famous Waldorf Astoria sits in New York. We also own a Club Med resort in Sicily which is one of the biggest resorts in the world as well as other Hilton managed hotels in Cambridge, Dunblane and Luton.

How did you get involved in PlayGround?PlayGround life started when little over 2 years ago when The Ability Group purchased the Hilton Liverpool we had this fantastic empty unit on the ground floor that nobody knew what to do with, some said how about a coffee shop or a SPA and after spending time in Liverpool and discovering the glamourous and fashion side to the city it was evident to me what this great vibrant city needed and that was a Nightlife!!!

What makes a hotel successful? In the time I have spent in learning and understanding this trade I believe there is many hotel asset classes from resorts, budget hotels, city centre, boutique but

one common thread between all is creative marketing, innovation, location and brand and for that very reason is why I believe the Hilton Liverpool is such an iconic hotel as it ticks all those boxes.

What’s on offer at PlayGround?Entertainers, live acts, theatrical acts, everything that used to wow you as a kid that people have forgotten.

What do you envisage when see people in PlayGround?I want to see those faces that people used to have as a kid when they walk in a toy shop or play in the playground or first get to go to a circus, butterflys in the tummy experience. The clientele will be professionals that want a great night out we won’t pigeon hole any identity as long as were comfortable all members will be like minded.

Why is there a need?Because the market and the glamour of Liverpool does not reflect the current offer.

How do you spoil yourself?I am a keen gym freak and car enthusiast so a perfect day would be taking my lamborghini for a spin and popping through a McDonalds drive through on the way back, I’m very disciplined my father installed that trait in me from a young kid.

How will you be spending Christmas?Spending Christmas will be at Syon Park with the family and it will be great because there some fantastic grounds at the hotel so hopefully it will be a white Christmas and we can enjoy the great outsides and the private garden, not to mention one of Londons biggest and most luxurious spas Kallima.I get more pleasure giving presents at Christmas so what ever my family and close friends get me I will be happy. To apply for membership at Playground please go to www.playgroundliverpool.com - limited supply so apply now!

INTRODUCING AWARD WINNING MAKE-UP ARTIST FOR BODY SHOP IN LIVERPOOL ONE, Adi Alfa.

Adi, who worked at The Body Shop, won a national competion across Body Shop UK out of over 200 stores to become Colour Coach of the year

2011.She said, “This is such a massive achievement and honour for me as i have worked extremely hard in my role as a make-up artist for the past year and a half at The Body shop and outside. i have held instore make-up events, linked up with other retailers, promoted our ‘make-over for change campaign’ which supports our charity, CHILDREN ON THE EDGE. Our charity provides food, education and livelihood for vunerable children across the world. I have also instigated make-overs in aid of charities such as macmillan cancer research, the British Heart foundation, Cash for Kids and Bernado’s, along with the massive support of my team who i absolutely adore! My role as a colour coach means that i have trained every member of staff in make-up application and new product knowledge and helped drive sales.”The aspect of this role she is most most passionate about is the ethics of the company she works for., saying, “I love how the Body Shop where the first beauty brand to trade ethically! none of our make-up is tested on animals or contains animal products and our make-up contains Marula oil which is community and fair traded from Namibia. Marula oil is a magnificant ingredient which moistures and protects the skin leaving our make-up sitting perfectly on the skin and not sinking into the skin’s pores. The great thing about Marula oil is the story that goes with it, by sourcing our marula oil naturally from the women’s tribe in Namibia we are also supporting the women there and in turn their community so that their buisness will flourish and they will recieve a fair wage without exploitation.”The Body shop beleive in NATURALLY enhancing YOUR NATURAL beauty, we want to activate self esteem especially in young girls. the pressure on young girls is immense, which is why we offer FREE skincare and MAKE-OVERS so that young girls can learn correct ways of looking after their skin and applying their make-up the right way.(under 16 year olds must be accompanied by an adult) however we also do many make-overs on different age groups who are also not as comfotable with make up...ALL ages welcome!I have recently just started my own freelance make-up buisness called, The Doll House which offers make-overs for individuals or groups in the comfort of their home! i also do weddings and kids parties, if you would like a free sample of my skills i would be honoured! :)

Thank you for your time, Adi AlfaColour Coach of the Year

What does a colour coach do?A colour coach is a role given to a team member who shows extra passion, talent and enthusiasm for make-up. They then have the responsibility of making sure we take the money(make-up wise) making sure every member of staff is trained in make-up and that they are skilled and competant enough at delivery exceptional make-over services. A colour coach is also in charge of driving traffic into the store, bringing brand awareness, organising events and keep track of store targets. Each body shop store has one.

Why did you become a make up artist?I professionally trained six years ago bt before that I already had a natural flare for make-up and all my friends would ask me to do there make-up if we ever went out! I just have a passion for make-up and I love the creative side to it, I’m a very creative person and I love how almost a work of art can be created with make-up. For me make-up is about building on what we already have naturally. It’s not about creating a false image, it’s about letting the inside reflect the outside and allowing make-up to enhance your natural beauty! I don’t like caked on make-up it’s not about looking fake, my favourite part about being a make-up artist is seeing someone who has such low self esteem, instantly feeling more confident. I’ve done many young girls who have acne or scarring and to see them with a smile on their face because it’s now less visible and that was the thing that was making them self concious is such a great feeling! I know many people think make-up is a vanity thing bt for me its not, it’s an expression of who we are, what we want to be, our inspirations. I love 1940’s inspired looks-the flicks and dark lips and the role in the hair! Now that I have won an award it has made me more determined to get everyone passionate about make-up. I have just started my own

mobile make-up company called The Doll House but I’d like evolve and get a shop or boudoir! Another option for me would be to become an international make-up artist as part of the bodyshop, maybe work in the labs making my own make-up!

Who would you like to make up?Katie Price because she overdoes herself, she likes similar make-up to a drag queen(and that’s no offense because I like their make-up for some aspects, but I’d like to give her a quirky look or a more natural look.I’d also like to do the Queen’s make-up! I think I could make her look stunning-give her a nice glowing youthful complexion!

What are this season’s party trends?Smoke and sparkle...gorgeous smokey eyes with loads of sparkle! Or the other trend which I love is wine stained lips with black liner flicks as seen by marc jacobs and vera wang on the catwalks!

Merseyside sports partnership is encouraging people across the

county to becoMe sport Makers. Katie Crozier, senior development officer (marketing), explains:0

Merseyside Sports Part-nership works to

improve the quality of life for the people within our region through sport and physical activity, and is one of 49 sports partnerships across the country committed to encouraging people to take part in sports.

Katie explains, “As part of the 2012 Legacy Programme, Sport Makers is designed to attract volunteers into sport.   This volunteering could be anything from booking a tennis court for a group of friends to becoming an event volunteer for an organisation like Run Liverpool. We are encouraging people to attend one of our workshops for free and hopefully they will be inspired to take on the volunteering role and get into sport.”

The Sport Makers programme launched nationally as a new initiative which aims to inspire over 40,000 people in the UK to get involved, (that’s over 1,000 in Merseyside) with each of them spending at least 10 hours organising or leading sporting activities. It is open to anyone aged 16 and over and is part of the Places People Play legacy programme that is bringing the magic of a home Olympic and Paralympic Games into communities across the country.

Lifestyles Fitness Centres are situated across Liverpool and managed by Liverpool City Council, who, seeing the benefits of supporting such an initiative, would like to offer anyone who completes 10 hours or more as a Sport Maker a FREE 3 month membership.

Every Sport Maker will be invited to attend an informal and interactive workshop, the first takes place at Greenbank Sports Academy on 14th December, where they’ll gain the skills and opportunities to get involved in sport in Merseyside.

New Sport Makers will then be introduced to organisations that need their help, and join forces with others who want to make sport happen locally. There’ll also be opportunities to meet top athletes and plenty of incentives to stay involved including free Adidas kit.

Sport Makers Co-ordinator at Merseyside Sports Partnership, Andrew Wileman commented:

“This programme should help us to inspire and enthuse a new generation of volunteers into sport and as a direct consequence, increase our capacity to deliver sport and physical activity and there increase participation. With the interest that 2012 creates we hope to be able to assist our partners in sport with the support they need to respond to demand during and after games time.”

Liverpool City Region realises its potential and its uniqueness to make a significant contribution to the sporting and cultural celebration of London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games. The Merseyside 2012 Steering Group will positively lead the partners within the Liverpool City Region to drive maximum economic, sporting and social benefits to provide its population with every opportunity to engage with the 2012 Games and its legacy.

The overarching aim is to achieve economic, sporting and social benefits of the 2012 Games in the Liverpool City Region by:

n Making a significant contribution to the sporting and cultural celebrationsn Inspiring, celebrating and generating a positive legacy for the communityn Providing the population with every opportunity to engage with the games and its legacyn Supporting the development of employability and skills development amongst existing workforce – coaches and volunteers and those wishing to enter employment through sport and physical activityn Supporting the work of other relevant groups where cross cutting themes are identified, particularly education, health, skills and business and volunteeringn Increasing the levels of participation in sport and physical activity to maximise the benefits of the games and of pre games training campsnAttracting and maximising the benefits of the 2012 Games against sustainable community strategiesn Attracting/accessing/levering in resources to support the aimsn Supporting talented athletes in achieving the highest level of performance and in bringing Olympic and Paralympic medals home to the Liverpool City Region.

HO HO HO!! MERRY C HRISTMAS

FROM SPLASH WORLD!!

Twas the run up to Christmas, and all round the house, Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse, The stockings were hung on the rides with care, In the hope that a special friend would soon be there,The North West’s Children were nestled in their beds, As dreams of Splash World fun danced through their heads, The Splash World team were frantically busy, For a special gift for the children to make them quite dizzy,

When over the dunes there was such a clatter,I sprang from the pool to see what was the matter,Away to the front doors I fl ew like a fl ash, Tore open the doors and boy did I dash!

As I looked out onto the dunes what should appear, But a magical sleigh and eight big reindeer, With my best friend so lively and quick, I knew in a moment it must be St Nick!

A bundle of toys he did have on his back, But into the sleigh he did pull out a sack, It twinkled and sparkled, oh what was within? I wondered and pondered if a present I did win,

Magical tickets, all gifts for my friends, For discounts at Splash World where the fun never ends, Discounted entry you just bring it along, For slides and rides and even a song,

But quick as he came he did go, Jumping on to his sleigh as it started to snow, His eyes did twinkle, his dimples how merry! His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!

He did wave at me and gave his team a whistle,And away they all fl ew like the down of a thistle. But I heard him exclaim, as he drove out of sight,HAPP Y C HRISTMAS TO AL L , AND TO AL L A GOOD-NIGHT.

Job 77 = Fitting wall brackets to store your garden toolsWherever you keep your garden tools, it’s important to keep them organised. This not only saves time and trouble but also creates a safe working environment in which your tools can be maintained and protected. STAGE 1 Start by selecting the garden tools which require organising and purchase a suitable bracket for each of these tools from your local garden centre or DIY store. Once you have selected a location for your first tool, hold the bracket in position and use a spirit level to ensure it is straight. Mark with a pencil to show where you will need to make holes, remove the bracket and prepare to drill. Drill a pilot hole into the walling of the wooden shed using a 18v drill and 3mm drill bit (if you are drilling into a garage brick wall you will need to use a masonry drill bit and apply a plug into the brickwork beforehand). STAGE 2 Next, screw your bracket into the wall either by hand or using a drill driver set to the screw setting. Once the bracket has been firmly secured to the wall you are ready to hang your first tool. Repeat for each tool, measuring a suitable gap between each bracket.

Tools/materials:

Hi everyone This month I’ve been busy with some of my sponsors and I’m still receiving my birthday presents for my 40th, which took place last month!

Recently, I was in Sandown Park in Surrey to support my sponsor Blaklader at the fourth professional toolfair of the year. I attended to represent their work wear range, which I regularly wear on my TV shows and whenever I have to visit building sites during the day because it’s such a reliable brand. The fair was a huge success and I really enjoyed it.

Also, last week the Children in Need special of DIY SOS was shown on BBC. As I mentioned last month DIY SOS took on its biggest ever challenge, a huge development project which involved refurbishing Norris Green Youth Centre in Liverpool. Children in Need funded the project to save the dilapidated building which provides young people with a safe and encouraging environment outside of school and strongly contributes towards combating anti social behavior in the disadvantaged area. I had a lot of fun working on this project and was more than happy to be involved because it’s such a worthy cause. It was great to finally watch and hear the feedback from other viewers as well as raise awareness of the necessity of projects just like this all over the country. I have to say the highlight of this month though was the fantastic birthday present off my girlfriend Laura. I was absolutely chuffed when she surprised me with a trip to the Big Apple. A few days shopping and taking in the sights of New York was exactly what I needed after all of last month’s partying. In both New York and here in the UK the cold has really started to set in so I’ve been wearing my Heat Holders permanently! They’re great for making my work boots extra comfy or for just wearing round the house (Laura and I love them!) Anyway, I hope you’re all keeping warm this November and are looking forward to Christmas! Best wishes, Craig

19 year old Chelsea Grimes is the UK’s brightest emerging talent. Liverpool born Chelsea has been writing songs since she was 11 years old, combining her songwriting and musical development with being one of the best young goal strikers at Liverpool FC.In March 2011 everything changed for Chelsea when she signed a major deal with RCA/Sony where she is now a priority artist. Her first single “Live for the Weekend” is in her own style of urban pop, packed with lots of hooks and lyrical twists. It hits the clubs this December with a full release in January 2012. You have been writing songs since 11 years of age (which is mightily impressive by the way!) what got you into it?I always wrote when I was younger. When kids were painting pictures in class or playing tag I’d be writing songs, well you can’t really call them songs they were just sentences that made hardly any sense next to one another. From there I took my story telling and started trying to put them to music.

You could have also easily been a success at football with Liverpool Ladies, how did you make the choice between that and music?Football played a huge part of my life, growing up. I just used to play with the boys in school and I quite liked how I was always made fun of and under-estimated before people would even see me kick a ball just because I was a girl. But when it came down to it I’d always have the last laugh. In the end I knew I couldn’t do both as a career so I had to decide, it was a tough decision and music won. The joke is “music is my boyfriend but football is the guy I used to date but still have a thing for.”

Liverpool seems to be a hub of musical talent; do you think coming from here has helped?

Liverpool definitely helped me to be who I am today, as it is so packed full of talent. I love my city and I’m really proud of where I come from.

How does it feel to be promoting your first single, which is being released just after Christmas?

To even be able to say I have a single which will be released in 2012 and will be available to buy is ridiculous. I just hope the people see how hard I’ve worked and not only that but really enjoy my music. I’m just a kid with a dream who is willing to put everything into my craft to succeed.

Where would you like to be this time next year?

This time next year I would like to look back and have no regrets. I want to make my city and family proud of me.

THE BEGINNING AND NOW THE FUTURE...James griffiths, Lifestyle Monthly’s psychic reveals all.How did you discover you were psycHicI was born in a haunted house so seeing and feeling a spirit presents became a regular occurrence in my home. I did feel at times as though I was living in a Scooby doo cartoon with hands and bodies appearing in bed rooms and on the staircase reaching out to me.

do you see it as a giftI would not say it’s a gift, I have an ability that we all have and It can be developed and learned like any other ability just like driving a car, some learn how to bring it out of themselves and use it quite quickly others may take a life time.

How do you feel wHen you get a pHysic premonitionAs a spiritual medium I tend to work with what I am given from a member of the family or a friend that has passed over to a person that is having a reading. I have to have faith and trust that what is been said or felt is right. Mostly it feels emotional what is said of felt is given with the best intentions and with love.

How can astrologer Help peopleAstrology can help you in many ways as its based around thousands of years of research on how the positions of the stars and planets where placed at the time of your birth and how this effects the personality and habits of your life and those around you.

wHat do you advise wHen you give a readingI don’t tend to know the person I am giving a reading to personally so it’s difficult to advise anyone with what to do

with their own life. But while giving a reading you may get an insight into the past or present of the person’s life from the spirit world or psychically so you tend to give examples of past mistakes and achievement which then help them with any decisions they need to make to have a fantastic and rewarding life.

you are a psycHic to a lot of wags and celebrities, wHy do you tHink you are so popularEveryone is the same. We all want to know the same things; will our families be happy and healthy? or that we are been watched over by family who have passed over. I think my work is all based on trust and integrity and I think over the last few years I have met quite a few clients who appreciate that. I will never repeat a reading I have done, to be honest as I leave the room the information I have been given seems to fade away which is definitely a good thing at times.

tell of some events you are working on in tHe new year, any psycHic premonition for lifestyle magazine?Next Year my own ghost hunting company DeadLive have a number of charity events booked so I am working on them at the moment. I have work personally in the Uk and over-seas with workshops and readings. BUSINESS FOCUS... Top business coach Darren Lawrenson ensures you don’t go crazy this Christmas...

Karl Fischer PR.UK & USA Sponsorship

“Do one thing every day that frightens you”Confidence – Where does it come from and how can I get more of it?

In my work with executives, business managers, business owners through to young adults and teenagers, I am often asked “how” to improve confidence and where does confidence come from. Whether it’s a major business presentation a new job, a job interview or asking someone out on a date, these are all areas that we can feel under confident in. We can feel anxious, nervous and fearful. We know this because we have all been there at some time. The great news is, you’re not on your own. When I ask a room full of people to raise their hands if they would like to improve some aspect of their confidence, I guarantee 100% of the time all hands in the room are raised. So the first thing is be reassured it’s perfectly normal and natural to have feelings of under confidence. We all believe that confidence comes from within ourselves and that we are products of our environment. We believe that our friends, family, experiences are what shape our confidence and to some ends these statements are true. We will feel more confident in certain environments and with certain people than others and if we are not careful we can stay within those environments as we feel comfortable and reassured. You will know that sometimes you feel more confident after a few drinks; we call it “Dutch courage”. Dutch courage refers to the courage gained from intoxication, originally from Dutch gin given to soldiers before they went into battle. However be aware alcohol is a depressant and can only give a temporary boost to feelings of confidence, alcohol when over indulged with will give the absolute opposite outcome and can damage, confidence, self esteem and feelings of self worth. So how do we build our confidence? I know that building confidence is a habit and not an overnight fix and those habits take 28 days to make and 7 days to break; we need to do something daily for 28 days for it to become our habit. Confidence comes from challenge ourselves to grow and push beyond our comfort zone. Our comfort zone is the world we have created that gives us feelings of certainty, security and safety. Pushing beyond these self imposed boundaries will force us to do things and be more than we are and as such will force us to grow. We gain confidence as we grow and become more than we have been. When we trust ourselves to risk pushing out of our comfort zone our confidence will naturally grow. It may feel uncomfortable at first but stay with it. We can either stick with it and become more or we shrink and use those feelings not to push next time which in turn will give us feelings of under confidence. It’s somewhat of an irony that we want to feel confident to attempt new things when in turn by doing these things we actually become more confident. Try it! Try something each day that challenges your comfort zone and watch as your confidence grow and grow. Take the risk, I guarantee you will feel better and better about yourself and your feelings of being confident.for more information contact [email protected]

Many companies who are reluctant to advertise can raise their profile by sponsoring a high profile event. I have teamed up with the award winning Lifestyle Magazine who are putting together the Liverpool Lifestyle Awards 2012. This prestigious black tie awards ceremony celebrates the best in local businesses who have worked with the magazine over the last year. Explains organiser, Amanda Moss, “ We understand that it is a very big decision for some companies to spend their advertising budget with Lifestyle magazine and so we want to give something back to our advertisers, to say thank you. The awards is a way whereby we can give them that little bit extra promotion and help raise their profile a little bit higher within the business community.”If you would like to present an award, or are looking for a larger business sponsorship package then please get in touch. We can offer you the chance to make a presentation on the night in front of your target business audience.

So what is The Deal...

DEVILThis month sees the launch of ‘The Deal Devil’, an exciting group discount membership scheme aimed specifically at Merseyside, bringing high end products and experiences to customers at remarkable savings.

Local businessman Kevin Mulligan, is behind the idea and concept that is set to be a very popular choice for any online shopper. Having a wealth of experience and extensive local contacts, his knowledge of web applications have fused together with this to create a product that will help cash flow for companies in these times and enable new plus repeat business from customers that use the scheme on a regular basis.

“I have experienced a difficult time of both business wise and personally in the past, so I have had to take a long hard look in the mirror and start again. I wanted to create an opportunity to help local businesses without inflicting any additional cost.”

Those who log on and register will get the chance to buy and enjoy fine experiences at much reduced costs in hotels, spas, salons, restaurants, bars and a whole plethora of other attractions within and unique to, the Merseyside region.

Kevin says he is delighted with the response and interest from clients and customers so far. Prestigious companies such as Posh Pads Luxury Apartments, Liverpool Dental Spa, Gourmet Coffee, Signature Living and many other local salons, bars and cafes.

Landlords, why should you pay a Letting Agency to manage your properties?

During these tough times with mortgages so hard to get and uncertainty with job security, the Lettings industry has increased year on

year. Many people see property as a way of invest-ing their pension money or some chose to remort-gage their own property to fund a purchase. So if you are a landlord with one or more properties why should you employ a Lettings Agent to do the job you are already doing yourself? Well the answer is simple, 99% of the time you don’t need us, but that 1% can cost you a fortune! We insure our car or home in case that 1% does happen so why not do the same for a property you have invested in and is bringing you in an income? A Letting Agent is there to ensure you do get paid on time and the property is not being abused in any way and that when the tenant leaves the property that there are no arrears and no damage. Many landlords do not keep up to date with the legali-ties of Lettings, which change on a constant basis; this can be the key to their problems and also not

referencing the tenant properly can be another. A good Letting Agent will fully reference the tenant to ascertain they can afford the property and also have a clean reference from their previous landlord, they will also request a guarantor if the tenant is on housing benefit and also ensure that the tenancy agreement, inventory and section 21 are signed and up to date. If it becomes necessary evictions should be done with minimal pain and expense. Remember it only costs roughly 1 months rent to pay a letting agent for the whole years management fee and you would have the peace of mind that your property is in good hands!

Last month, Merseyside British Red Cross ball was held at Hillbark Hotel & Spa in Frankby, Wirral. Over the last four years

this annual event has raised over £80,000 for the British Red Cross, and this year’s event was the most successful ever, raising an additional £37,000 from the local Wirral and Merseyside community. “We would like to give special thanks to Ina Schmidt of European Partner Solutions for her continued support in organising the Red Cross Ball, and to all the volunteers who have helped at this year’s Snow Ball.” said Alexis Fairclough, Senior Community Fundraiser for the British Red Cross. “It is always amazing to find so many people and organisations who are willing to put time, effort, money and expertise into supporting a charity, so let me extend my heartfelt thanks to everybody who contributed their time, sponsorship - and prizes! - to ensure that the 2011 Red Cross Ball was such a tremendous success”

Wikipedia believes in Santa Claus. If they didn’t why would they have a whole page dedicated to him?. And Facebook can’t be wrong either.

Yahoo Answers believes. When asked if Santa was real or not, the best

answer was “Do you REALLY think your parents could afford all the stuff you got

for Christmas every year? IF not then WHO do you think brought it to you?”

Watch Miracle on 34th Street or Elf and tell me you don’t believe!

Every year we put out the cookies and milk for Santa, and every year those

cookies get eaten and that milk gets drunk.

NORAD - The North American Aerospace Defense Command - tracks Santa’s sleigh as it fl ies through the air on Christmas Eve. You don’t think the government would waste time tracking things that don’t exist do you?

Wikipedia believes in Santa Claus.

Santa Claus was a real person called Nickolas, who had such a reputation for secret gift giving that he was recognized as a Saint. Legend

has it that Saint Nick came across a poor man who had three daughters but could not

afford a proper dowry for them. This meant they would remain unmarried . When Saint

Nick heard of the problem, he decided to help the three daughters but being too modest

(or too shy) to help them in public, he went to his house under the cover of night and

threw three purses fi lled with gold coins through the window opening onto their fl oor.

Reasons to believe

in Santa Claus…..

and if you don’t,

then bah humbug

to you!

It just feels a lot better to believe in the spirit of giving that Santa represents. Without Santa our lives just would not be the same.

No Santa Claus? The next thing they’ll be telling me is that they don’t believe in elves, and every parent knows how real the elves are and how hard they work every year to make

Christmas just a bit brighter for our kids.

Thank God Santa Claus lives forever.

...He’s Fab!with Dr. Fab Equizi

The Lip Doctor is pleased to announce a new skin rejuvenation treatment, carboxytherapy, using the New RioBlush machine.

RioJuvenation System by RioBlush a revolutionary advance in dermatologyOur skin changes over time, losing its youthful look and giving way to wrinkles, laxity, cellulite and stretch marks. RioBlush’s CO2 RioJuvenation system is a safe, minimally invasive, clinically proven method to rejuvenate, restore and recondition the skin. Results can be rapid and dramatic. The treatment has no downtime and a single session can take between fifteen minutes and an hour. A simple and safe procedure for beautiful, younger looking skin. How it works

As we age, subcutaneous capillaries become dormant, decreasing circulation and depriving cells of oxygen; this, combined with environmental stresses and other variables, inhibits the ability of cells to regenerate and function properly. RioBlush’s RioJuvenation System infuses CO2 just beneath the skin’s surface; the body interprets this as an oxygen deficit and responds by increasing the flow of blood. This provides a surge of oxygen and nutrients to the treated area and improves circulation, resulting in cell restoration.

Is RioJuvenation right for you?

• RioJuvenation dramatically:• fades stretchmarks • diminishes cellulite• tightens loose skin• brightens and firms the eyec ontour

"The biggest breakthrough in beauty therapy since Botox"

“RioBlush carboxy therapy is the most effective treatment against

Grade 2 cellulite and very popular in Brazil”

Grazia

How many sessions before I see an improvement? Most people observe improvement after the first treatment, though it usually takes up to one month for the body to properly react to the process. More pronounced and long-lasting results are observed after 4 to 12 treatments, by which time the skin shows clear signs of healthy rejuvenation.

Is the treatment painful?

The treatment is completely natural. Some people may experience some mild discomfort but most find it less uncomfortable than electrolysis, laser, or waxing.

Is there any downtime?RioJuventation is minimally invasive. There is no downtime.

How long do the benefits last?

RioBlush is a retro-aging treatment, but it does not arrest the aging process; new cells will age naturally over time. At least one-yearly cycle is recommended.

Is carbon dioxide toxic?

No, carbon dioxide is a natural byproduct of the body and not toxic

Sessions start at £100Telephone: 0151 520 3070Email: [email protected] Liverpool Road South, Maghull, Merseyside, L31 8AA.
