We use an online catalog called:

Destiny

You can get to Destiny by finding the icon for Destiny on the computer desktop.

You can also access Destiny from the VBMS Homepage by clicking on the little guy at the bottom of the screen.

VERY IMPORTANT!

You should examine materials for damages prior to checkout.

Don’t checkout books for, or loan books to, a friend.

We don’t want you to pay for someone else’s mistake!

If anything happens to the book, you will be held responsible because it is checked out in your name.

Page 16: Welcome to the Beach Middle School Library Media Center.

What do I need to do when I checkout?

You will need to know your library number. It is the same number

used in the cafeteria and for logging into the computer.

Know your number!

What if the security alarm sounds?

Everyone exiting should stop. If your item appears to be the cause, step back

to the circulation desk and we will investigate the problem. Don’t panic.

Page 17: Welcome to the Beach Middle School Library Media Center.

What if we don’t have the book?

Let us know. We will add your suggestion to our

“Wish List.”

What if all of our copies are checked out?

At the circulation desk, ask us to place the item on hold. When your turn

comes up, we will give your teacher a notice. You have 3 days to checkout

the reserved book.

Page 18: Welcome to the Beach Middle School Library Media Center.

What if I forget to return my book on time?

Fines are 5 cents a day for overdue books.

Always look for damages before you checkout your book.

We do charge fines for damaged and lost books.

Virginia Beach City Public SchoolsInternet Safety Plan

Students need to be aware that:– The Internet is a powerful tool that should be used wisely.– Not all Internet information is valid or appropriate so students

must know specifically how to maximize the Internet’s potential while protecting themselves from potential abuse.

– Internet messages and the people who send them are not always what or who they seem.

– Predators and cyberbullies anonymously use the Internet to manipulate students; and learn how to avoid dangerous situations and get adult help.

– Internet activities, such as playing games and downloading music or video files, can be enjoyable; and to know which activities are safe and legal.
