Construction Company and the property owner.”
Two commercial buildings in the Chollas Triangle area:
•5599 University Avenue •A 1950s “Quonset Hut”
For years these properties have attracted illegal dumping, graffiti and other physical blights. The demolition
was the last step of the large-scale community clean up of Chollas Parkway
in January of 2006.
For Our Youth Turfing Vista Grande Elementary
June 6, 2006• Transformed 3 acres of
decomposed granite fields into new sports fields with
turf, infield and a sports track
• This is one of many ball fields that have been turfed in
District 7 including Kumeyaay Elementary, Pershing Middle School, Lewis Middle School and
Hearst Elementary School

Quality of LifeSmoking Ban
February 6, 2006Along with Councilmember Scott
Peters announced a new City initiative to ban smoking at all City parks and beaches. The measure is aimed at reducing litter, improving water quality, reducing fire hazards
and improving health. Revenue from fines collected are used to off-set the costs incurred by the City for
removing cigarette litter on City-owned property.

awareness of this Citywide issue and beginning of an on-going process to
address it

Community Clean Up Days
•Fox Canyon Brush Clean Up May 13, 2006
In the District 7 portion of City Heights. Volunteers, members of Fox Canyon Neighborhood Association and Urban Corps cleaned up Fox Canyon, Chollas
Creek and Auburn Canyon
•51st Street Canyon Clean Up Took place in May and June of 2006.
Removed homeless encampments and illegal dumps. Also cleaned up the creek
which is a difficult task due to environmental concerns and removed Arrundo Donax and other non- native
plants

Cleaned up Chollas Parkway between University Avenue and 54th Street. Partnered with our friends at Alpha Project, Teen Challenge and KGTV Channel

Community Clean Up Days
•Euclid Avenue Clean Up June 10, 2006
District 7 Office sponsored the Euclid Avenue Litter Clean Up in City Heights. Fox Canyon Neighborhood
Association and Urban Corps cleaned the area, picked up litter and
removed weeds and debris on Euclid Avenue between Home Avenue and
El Cajon Boulevard •Colina Del Sol Neighborhood June 10, 2006
Council District 7 sponsored Community HousingWorks’ annual event called “FaceLift” in making major improvements to 13 homes
and removed trash and weeds in the Colina Del Sol neighborhood
Community Clean Up Days
• Islenair Neighborhood Clean Up June 24, 2006
Neighbors helped organize this event and Alliance for African Assistance helped collect reusable items to be recycled in their thrift store. Alpha Project collected trash and debris
from each home in the Islenair neighborhoods
