1. Research of suitable universities or companies (field reports, rankings, partner

universities, opinions of academics in the department, etc.).

2. Enquire about and use contacts from your institute or chair and identify suitable

potential project supervisors.

3. Application to professor: email with cover letter, motivation and time frame for

stay; attachment: CV, transcript of records, letter of recommendation, additional

qualifications if applicable.

4. Planning the stay: Application for scholarships after successful acceptance or in

parallel (pay attention to deadlines!), visa, insurance, accommodation, if

applicable.

NRC-MITACS-RWTH Globalink Research Award Program

• Cooperation programme between RWTH, Mitacs and the National Research

Council of Canada

• Research stays at participating Canadian partner universities

• Target group: Master and PhD students

• Funding amount and length: up to $18,000 CAD for stays of 6 to 12 months

• Application approximately six months before the planned start of the stay

University of Alberta Research Experience Programm (UARE)

• U Alberta is considered the most important partner in Canada: Strategic partnership

• Scholarship for research stays

• Target group: Bachelor students

• Funding amount and length: $6,000 CAD for 12 weeks

• Research internships are generally available in winter (January to March) and

summer (May to August), but other start dates can be arranged depending on the

host professor

• Time flexibility, independent of program dates

• Sponsored research stays at IIT Madras in Chennai, India

• Interdisciplinary orientation of the centre in the field of sustainability (waste

management, water management, coastal protection, urban planning and energy)

• Target group: Master's students and doctoral candidates Length of funding: max.

6 months, virtual start with transition to physical stay possible
