Math 8 (Pre-Algebra) Mrs. Marx and Mrs. Stokes
Introduction – Janet Marx• Have taught 20 years in the VBCPS
system.
• Product of Virginia Beach Schools. Graduated from Bayside High School.
• Volunteer at PAES.
• Undergraduate degree from ODU and Masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction from UVA.
• 8th grade – my favorite grade to teach!

• Product of VBCPS. Graduated from Kempsville HS.
• Undergraduate degree from NSU.
• Masters degree is under construction.
• 6th, 7th, and 8th grade – are my favorite grades to teach!
Student Behaviors
• Be prompt Be ready to learn when class begins.
• Be prepared Have materials with you and know due dates.
• Be a polite and positive participant Speak in a normal tone of voice, and listen
attentively.
• Be productive Turn in work on time, and always do your best.
• Be a problem solver Correct problems quickly and peacefully before they
escalate.
Supplies
• Textbooks were issued and need to stay home.
• Classroom set of textbooks
• Binder with math section, loose leaf paper, pencils, and erasers.
Routine
• Enter classroom and pick up calculator.
• Place homework on desk along with punch card.
• Look on board and start warm-up as teacher checks homework for completion.
• Go over warm-up and homework answers – students make corrections.
• Mini-quiz
Routine• Teach a new concept.
• Activities – Use a variety of teaching strategies to break up the time. Incorporate 21st century skills. Group work/Partners Collaboration Independent work Games Dry Erase Board Drills Video Clips Critical Thinking Problem Solving Music
