An expert asked, “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first
and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets
hang on these two commandments.”
Call to WorshipOne: A huge battle rages within and around us.
Many: We know we need to make a clear choice. Will we commit ourselves wholly to You and Your ways?
One: We are caught up in having things our own way. We are hesitant to give up the control we believe we
have and goals we have set.
Many: Yet, we are tired of being caught in impossible situations and long for the direction and peace of mind that only You can give.
Call to Worship (cont)
One: Hear the Good News: Jesus was sent to earth that we might know the mighty power of God’s love for each of us.
Many: We have decided. We have decided to follow Jesus. We will worship our Mighty God, our Lord who is loving and great. We will sing praises to our Lord and Creator with all that we have and are.
Great is the Lord,
he is holy and just;
by his power we trust in his love.
Great is the Lord,
he is faithful and true;
by his mercy he proves he is love.
Great is the Lord
and worthy of glory!
Great is the Lord
and worthy of praise.
Great is the Lord;
now lift up your voice:
Great is the Lord!
Great is the Lord!
Great is the Lord,
he is holy and just;
by his power we trust in his love.
Great is the Lord,
he is faithful and true;
by his mercy he proves he is love.
Great are you, Lord,
and worthy of glory!
Great are you, Lord,
and worthy of praise.
Great are you, Lord;
I lift up my voice, I lift up my voice:
Great are you, Lord!
Great are you, Lord!
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
praise him, all creatures here below;
praise him above, ye heavenly host;
praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.Amen.
Lord, speak to me, that I may speakin living echoes
of thy tone;As thou has sought,
so let me seekthine erring children
lost and lone.
O strengthen me,that while I standfirm on the rock,
and strong in thee,I may stretch out
a loving handto wrestlers with the
troubled sea.
O teach me, Lord,that I may teach
the precious thingsthou dost impart;
and wing my words,that they may reachthe hidden depths
of many a heart.
O fill me withthy fullness, Lord,
until my veryheart o’erflow
in kindling thoughtand glowing word,
thy love to tell,thy praise to show.
O use me, Lord,use even me,
just as thou wilt, and when, and where,
until thy blessedface I see,
thy rest, thy joy,thy glory share.
Our Father, who art in Heaven,
hallowed be Thy name.Thy kingdom come,
thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,as we forgive
those who trespassagainst us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory, forever.Amen.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son
and to the Holy Ghost;as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
world without end.Amen. Amen.
I Thessalonians 2:1-3 NRSV
You yourselves know, brothers and sisters, that our coming to you was not in vain, but though we had already suffered and been shamefully mistreated at Philippi, as you know, we had courage in our God to declare to you the gospel of God in spite of great opposition. For our appeal does not spring from deceit or impure motives or trickery,
I Thessalonians 2:4-6 NRSV
but just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the message of the gospel, even so we speak, not to please mortals, but to please God who tests our hearts. As you know and as God is our witness, we never came with words of flattery or with a pretext for greed; nor did we seek praise from mortals, whether from you or from others,
I Thessalonians 2:7-8 NRSV
though we might have made demands as apostles of Christ. But we were gentle among you, like a nurse tenderly caring for her own children. So deeply do we care for you that we are determined to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you have become very dear to us.
Blest be the tie that bindsour hearts in Christian love;
the fellowshipof kindred minds
is like to that above.
Before our Father’s thronewe pour our ardent prayers;
our fears, our hopes,our aims are one,
our comforts and our cares.
We share each other’s woes,our mutual burdens bear;
and often for each other flows
the sympathizing tear.
When we asunder part,It gives us inward pain;
but we shall stillbe joined in heart,
and hope to meet again.
