OWL-Opening the World of Learning
• Opening the World of Learning: A Comprehensive Early Literacy Program is a comprehensive, integrated curriculum.
• It provides the strongest research-based early literacy curriculum and seamlessly weaves solid content that captures children's natural curiosity about the world into an activity-centered day. The curriculum covers all domains of learning: Language and Literacy, Social Studies, Science, Mathematics, The Arts, Physical Development, and Social and Emotional Development.

PROCEDURES
• Sign in child on clipboard near exterior classroom doors
• Wait with student until exterior classroom doors open
• Meet us at the Playground
• Parent signs child out
• Others who pick up must be on our list, show photo ID, & 18+ years old
• Tardy: If our exterior door is closed, please escort your child around the building to the front office for a tardy pass, they will not be allowed in the classroom until you have checked them in at the office. Please DO NOT knock on our outside door as it is disruptive to our learning environment.

Clothes
• To School- Preschoolers should come to school in comfortable clothing and shoes (no sandals). Please have your child wear a coat and other appropriate attire when the weather is colder, we will go outside daily weather permitting (with wind chill 15 degrees & warmer)
• In Backpack- Please pack a extra full set of clothes in a Ziploc bag to keep in the bottom of the student’s backpack. We need to have a spare change of clothes for every child.
• For children still in diapers-Please provide a package of diapers and some wipes.

Daily Schedule
SNACKS
• Each student should bring snack monthly
• A calendar will be posted each month
• Bring enough for all 16 children
• The child will be leader on their snack day
• Snacks need to be from commercial sources (no homemade snacks).
• Snacks need to be from 2 nutritious food groups, for example dairy (yogurt), fruits (apples), vegetables (baby carrots), grain (animal crackers).
• ½ gallon of milk (1 gallon is too much)
• We cannot except snacks that do not meet these requirements.
Responsibilities Guidelines
Birthday Bubbles
• On your child’s birthday they will be able to ware their pajamas, be the leader for the day, and they will get birthday bubbles.
• The school’s focus is health and wellness so we will not be doing sugary treats for birthdays.
WE ARE GOING GREEN
• Communication will be done through e-mail
• Please provide an e-mail address.
• If you need help setting up an e-mail address or you don’t have one let me know.
MONDAY FOLDERS
On Monday your child will bring home a folder containing information for you to review. Please check the folder, respond to any pertinent items and have your student return the folder to school the following school day. Child gets sticker if folder is returned.
HOMEWORK
Home assignments: • Monthly calendar will also
be given with Monday folders. Please complete as many of the activities you can for each unit. Return at the end of the month for incentives.
• As skills are taught, emails may come through with attachments. It is optional to print and complete these. Incentives will be provided.
• Home reading: • Engage 10-15 minutes
each day in print.• This includes a “to, with or
by” component. A parent or older sibling can read “to” students, students can read “with” a parent discussing illustrations, or students can read “by” themselves making up stories or describing the illustrations.
LIBRARY
Students will go to library weekly to listen to a story & checkout books. Books will not be sent home, due to many not getting returned last year.
OPPORTUNITIES FOR INVOLVEMENT
Parents:• Monthly
opportunities to participate in field trips or in-class celebrations
Volunteers can help:• In the classroom• With art projects• Preparing items at
home• Sign up as needed
All visitors in the classroom must fill out a volunteer form prior to coming into the
classroom

• Parent conferences are required twice per year, fall and spring. Fall= October 24th & 25th, Spring= May 1st & 2nd.
