SUNDAY MORNING SMILE An English professor wrote the words, "Woman without her man is nothing" on the blackboard and directed his students to punctuate it correctly. The men wrote: "Woman, without her man, is nothing." The women wrote: "Woman! Without her, man is nothing." J

CWL BAZAAR - October 27, 2018 The success of the Bazaar relies heavily on the many wonderful donations made by our parishioners. We are now beginning to collect for the following: Purses and scarves: Jane Larson 256-2297 (there is a box at the back of the Church). Jewellery: Gerda Franssen 257-7155 (a box is at the back of the Church on top of the small white cupboard in corner). Linens/fabrics: Cathy Hudson 257-8660 (Please call for pick up/drop off information). Books: If you are planning to get rid of any books this summer, please save them for our Book table. For those who make preserves - pepper jelly & yellow cucumber relish were a great hit last year, also diabetic jam. Spin & Win: Please keep an eye out this summer for suitable items you may wish to donate for collection in the Fall. Craft Table: We look forward to seeing what your imagination and nimble fingers will produce. Please note that there will not be a Glass/China table this year. Thank you for your support, Gay Wood Bazaar Convenor 256-4554.

WE ARE ALL FAMILY… In today’s Gospel Jesus seems to disown his family.

Does he dismiss Mary and his family? He knew this was not going down well them. It is interesting that they came for

him, maybe they wanted to take him home. But he turns the family table. He expands his notion of the

family. Coming from God his Father he proclaims that all around him are family to him – these are his mother,

brother and sister. He will later teach them to pray, not My Father, but Our Father. This is one of the central teachings of Jesus, that we are all brothers and sisters, because of our Father in heaven. From this truth that

Jesus felt so strongly about came much of his preaching – to treat each other as family. This follows the debate about good and bad religion of earlier weeks. The best of religion

treats us all as brothers and sisters because of God. Our first and last belonging is that we belong to God – we come from God and go to God. There will often be

conflict in Jesus’ family about him. His first family did not take easily to his new family – his disciples. Only at

Pentecost around the mother of Jesus would both families unite. His words are words to us today – he looks around at us and sees us as his brothers and sisters. This should

make a difference as to how we see each other.

CATECHISM OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD ‘The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is a Montessori-based religious formation program for children, beginning at the age of three. It seeks to create and facilitate a sacred, "hands-on" space for children in which both the children and the catechist can hear, ponder and celebrate the most essential mysteries of the Christian faith as revealed in the scriptures and the liturgy.’ The CGS involves small groups of children with parents and volunteers to help the children by facilitating prayers and various hands on projects. Volunteers will be needed to help facilitate individual classes when the program begins. If you are interested in this opportunity to help our children grow in their knowledge and love of Christ, please speak to Cheryl Martin phone 613-407-0257; email [email protected] or Fr. Paul or visit our website and click on BLOG for more info.
