Germantown High School makes a focused effort to

ensure that all students have a successful transition to their

freshman year of high school.

How are we helping you during 8th grade?

▪ Parochial Preview Day

▪ Prospective families from area parochial

schools were invited to GHS for a half-day to

learn more about the high school and the

district, receive enrollment and course

registration information.

▪ High School Ambassador Meetings

▪ Throughout the year, a group of high

school students travels to KMS to teach 8th

grade students about GHS, share advice

for making a smooth transition

(academically, socially, personally, etc.)

and answer questions about high school in

general.

▪ Co-Curricular Fair

▪ In an effort to encourage participation, 8th

grade students at KMS are able to receive

information on a wide variety of athletic and

extracurricular activities at GHS. Students

are able to meet with co-curricular advisors

and student participants and have their

questions answered.

▪ Individual Tours/Orientation

▪ Students who require more individualized

transition services are paired up with high

school staff and provided with one-on-one

tours of the building, introductions to staff

members they will work with in the future,

and other key information about the high

school experience.

counselors and teachers meet to discuss the

needs of the incoming freshman class.

How will we help you during 9th grade?■ Freshman Locker Night-August 26th

– Freshmen receive their schedules, have their photo taken and

partake in tours given by Student Council and Peers.

– Students set up their lockers and find their classrooms.

– Distribution of Chromebooks

■ 1st Day of School Orientation– Freshmen gather in the PAC for a presentation from administration

on school information, rules, and policies.

– Introductions of staff, resources and opportunities.

– Upperclassmen reinforce expectations in a tour of the building.

▪ Freshmen Tailgate

▪ Beginning in 2009, freshmen students have

been invited to a tailgate before a varsity

football game. Students are provided with

dinner, watch the marching band perform, and

then attend the football game.

▪ Assignment of Students to the ILC

▪ Based on recommendations from KMS,

select freshmen students are assigned to the

Integrated Learning Center during their study

halls in an effort to help students be more

academically successful.

▪ School counselors meet with the freshmen after

the end of 1st quarter to give a presentation about

graduation requirements, credits, transcripts, and

postsecondary options.

■ Students have a daily resource period,

which is 33 minutes.

■ This time is spent completing ACP

lessons, “housekeeping” activities,

class/group meetings, as well as providing

time for students to work on homework

■ Differences between Germantown High School and your middle/elementary schools:

– You will have a transcript

■ An academic accounting of what you did in high school

■ Begins the first day of freshman year and remains on file forever

■ All students must enroll in a minimum of 6 credits.– 5 credits will be in required courses– 1 – 2 credits will be in elective courses

■ Choose electives that will help prepare for postsecondary or career plans

■ Students are not allowed to have more than one study hall per semester.

■ Students who wish to enroll in more than 6 credits of courses will not have a study hall.

■ Students with seven courses in a semester can drop an elective anytime until the end of the 4th

week of the semester without penalty.


■ A typical freshman schedule will include the

during the summer for 0.5 credit

Honors Courses

■ Letters are included in the envelope handed out this evening.

■ Recommendation is based on district-developed criteria; parent-informed, self-select.

■ Students must maintain a minimum of a B- in

1st semester in order to continue in an Honors

course during the remainder of the year.


World Language Course Selection

■ KMS students will receive a recommendation from Mrs. Brehmer.

■ If you have any questions, please see the World Languages representative in the main gym.

❏ Private/parochial families who need to enroll in the district must complete the new student online enrollment process in Skyward.

❏ The GHS Registrar is available to discuss any questions about online enrollment and/or residency.

● The Germantown School District will be verifying residency of all students going from KMS to GHS for 9th grade.

● The school district appreciates your understanding that verification of residency is necessary as an ongoing process.


● Residency documents are needed to establish residency in the district.

● Residency is the address at which the family physically resides, keeps their personal effects, receives mail, and maintains voter registration.

● This residency must be a street address. Post Office boxes are not accepted.


● Falsification of any information or documents relative to this verification procedure may result in the withdrawal of this student.

● The documents must include the address of the residence within the school district. In extenuating circumstances, administration will review other documentation and determine eligibility.

NEW! Athletic and Activity Online Registration

■ Athletic/Activity registration completed through

Skyward under "online forms"

■ Both parents/guardians and student athletes must sign in

to their individual accounts to complete the process.

■ WIAA Physical forms can be uploaded to Skyward. The

WIAA established date for valid physicals is April 1,

2019 for 2020-21 school year. (Physicals prior to this

date are not valid.)

Building Projects Summary

● $84,000,000 Referendum passed in November of 2016.

● Approximately $57,000,000 of that will be dedicated to GHS.

● These projects impacted student safety, curricular programming, co-curricular programming and community use.

● This audience will be the first group to have all areas completed.


● Renovated classroom areas for Business Education opened in August of 2017.

● The new Automotive Classroom and Lab opened in January 2018.

● Family and Consumer Sciences classroom and labs opened in 2018.


● Project Lead the Way labs and classrooms opened in January of 2019.

● A new area on the 2nd floor opened in January of 2019. This included more lockers, a new Science Lab, 6 new classrooms and an Innovation Center.

● The Performing Arts Center opened in March of 2019.

● The Pool and Aquatics center opened in the spring of 2019.

● The Fieldhouse opened in March of 2019.

● The new Main Office opened in April of 2019.
