The New Jersey Driver License System
When you driveYou must carry:
Registration
Insurance
Permit/Probationary License
TYPES OF LICENSESBasic : Class D
Commercial: Class A, B, C
Motorcycle: Class E
Moped: Class F (age 15)
Agricultural: Class G (age 16)
Boat (age 16)
Commercial Driver LicensesClass A = Tractor TrailersClass B = Vehicles over 26,001 lbs.
(Commerical Buses)Class C = Vehicles under 26,000 lbs. (School
bus)
NJ Basic LicenseMust be 18 to get one! (after 1 year of unsupervised driving)
Have 60 days of moving into NJto apply for one
Those under 21 have a different appearing license than those above 21.

Learners Permit and Exam Permit Similarities Other Rules:
Must practice supervised driving for 6 months excluding suspensions before you can attempt to take road test.
Supervised driver must be licensed in the state of New Jersey, have their license for 3 years and be 21 years old or older
After 1 year with probationary license, you may get your Basic License (must be 18 years old)

If a permit driver commits a traffic offense, responsibility is on both the student, and instructor.

If driver is 21, there are no passenger restrictions
GDL Decals – Kyleigh’s LawAll Graduated Drivers under 21 with a permit
or probationary license must display a red decal on their front and rear license plates.
Cost is $4 for these decals
