Equipment
Equipment should be matched to the search
Certain minimum standards should be followed in order to allow searcher safety
Proper equipment will let you focus on the job
Boots
Sturdy and cover the ankle Safe Waterproof Comfortable
Remember…you will be getting off and on your horse!
Never wear tennis shoes!
Pants
Cargo pants Lots of pockets and wear sturdy belt “Rip-stop” material
Chaps In cold weather
long underwear especially polypropylene Carhartt bibs
Shorts are never allowed!
Shirt
Consider long sleeves year round Orange DCSAR shirt
Offers high visibility + indentification Coolmax or other similar materials in summer
Never wear camoflage!
Rain Gear
Sturdy enough for trail use High visibility color Gore-tex or other breathable material Rain hat
Something “foldable”

Search Crew Usually 3-5 searchers
Assigned a specific area in a given time using specific search techniques
Search Manager Person who organizes and
supervises a search for the IC
Rescue vs. Recovery Subject found alive Subject deceased

Rain Dance Search MUST be “field calibrated”
