• Words are sorted in routines that require children examine, discriminate, and make critical judgments about speech sounds, word structures, spelling patterns, and meanings.

Key Spelling Rules

• using periods in abbreviations • using apostrophes to show possession• capitalizing proper names and adjectives• adding suffixes (changing y
