Junior Great Books: This is the program Kyrene currently uses in the Gifted
Clusters.
Addresses same Reading Strands as Harcourt but adds a critical thinking piece:
Idea: clarifying and developing ideas of what the story means
Evidence: supporting and checking these ideas based on what is in the story
The stories in Junior Great Books are chosen because they are open to many different interpretations.
Uses a Shared Inquiry Approach –participants search for their own meaning in these stories, and read, listen and respond to the ideas of others
MATH
Three main resources:
Saxon – concepts are developed, reviewed, and continually practiced over time. Includes daily timed math fact practice and frequent cummulativeassessments. Daily Math Journals are used.
