How do I make my course site visible to students? All course sites will inially be unpublished and therefore not visible to students. To make your course site available, click the publishedbuon on the right side under course status.Note: The ability to unpublishyour course site will remain unl students have submied an assignment. How do I insure that the right students have access to my site? Canvas is populated by course registraon from the Registrars office. During the first 11 weeks of the semester, Canvas is updated 4 mes daily at: 6am, 10am, 2pm and 6pm. Please advise students to recfy their registraon status with the Registrars Office in order to automacally gain access to your published course site. How do I add files to a Canvas site? Adding files to Canvas can be as easy as clicking and dragging from your desktop. From within your Canvas course site, Click on the Files buon located on the leſt and then drag files from the desktop; zipped files work too! Most of the Canvas tools also offer prompts to browse and upload files. See figure 2 inside this booklet. Is there a grade book in Canvas? Yes, however the grade book columns are automacally added from the Assignments tool only (for all aspects, even parcipaon). Consider "mung assignments" in order to control when grades and feedback is disseminated to students. Note: At the end of the semester all grades must be manually entered into PeopleSoſt. How do I email all my students? Aſter publishing your course site, you can use the announcement tool to communicate with all the students in a given course. Many acons in your course site will push out announcements to students (such as adding an assignment). Students can determine the frequency of announcement delivery as well as mode, including a text-messaging to cell phone opon. Please have conversaons with your students about expectaons related to Canvas course communicaons. Are there browser recommendaons? Firefox, Chrome and Safari are all recommended. It is suggested that you keep your browser up-to-date. If you are uncertain how to do so, contact the Help Desk. Mul Media: Adding mulmedia (10 minutes or less) to your course site? The good news is that Canvas accepts a wide range of file formats and offers easier playback for students. Calendar: Give the calendar a try. It's worth it. Canvas Course Design

There are multiple ways to organize your course materials and make

them available to students. For specific examples visit:

canvas.hws.edu/courses/1411149

I just want to share files with my students. Using the Files Tool Keep the Files tab available to your students and organize your course using just the home page and Files tab. See figure 2.

Using the Course Modules Tool Offers linear organization, selective/timed release, can easily create links to web sites as well as to files. Acts as an open folder. See figure 3.

How do I organize my course by topic or by week? Using the Course Modules Tool The course modules are a great way to organize your course site when using multiple tools. It offers linear organization, selective/timed release, can easily link to web sites, assignments, other course tools and files. See figure 3.

Can I create a simple home screen with a few images or web links? Using the Pages Tool The default home page of your course site is a wiki page that is easy to edit where you can place course information text, images, web links, or file links. See figure 1.

To get started, click Edit or the Choose Home Page button (on right) to switch

your home view between the Pages, Course Modules, Syllabus, or Assignment
