All about Mrs. Gasiorek…..

• I never forget how fortunate I am to be a teacher. It is my passion.

• This is my eighth year of teaching first grade.• I receive my Bachelors of Arts in Early Childhood education

from Elmhurst College.• I have three children. Brooklyn, Charlotte, and Ben. All of

which graduated from Byrne Elementary.• Things I enjoy doing the most: quality time with my family,

spending time at our farm, reading, and being in the classroom with my students!

What is balanced literacy?

Reading

• BALANCED LITERACY

• Read-Aloud: teacher reads aloud and models, whole class

• Shared Reading: teacher and students engage in shared reading of text

• Small Group: reading groups based on reading levels, text is appropriate to reading level of group

• Independent: student reads independently with at Interactive Read-Aloud

Classroom Rules

First grade fun! Flashlight Friday!

We gather books, find a cozy spot, turn out the lights, and read by flashlight!

Mystery Reader

• Parents are welcome to come to school to read a book to the student’s! SHHH… it is supposed to be a surprise to your child when you show up!

Reminders….

Junk food days – The holiday season and field days are approved junk food days. The remainder of the year the “CPS health initiative” is observed.

Birthdays – please feel free to send in pencils, stickers, etc. for birthday treats. Please no sweets.

Absences – Please send in a note if your child is absent.
