Every moment counts

Apply yourself in class in each lesson

Page 6: Welcome [smartfile.s3.amazonaws.com]smartfile.s3.amazonaws.com/simonballe.herts.sch.uk/...SBAS 2019 Headlines – New Grades 1-9 Grade English language (% achieving) Maths (% achieving)

Every moment counts

Take responsibility for your learning - make each lesson count so you can build on it outside of the classroom

Complete homework to the best of your ability - it is revision and not just a chore to be completed

Mindset matters - arrive on time and fully equipped

Excellence is not an act, it is an attitude – you are what you

repeatedly do

Mindset matters

Just 17 days absence from school a year

could result in a drop in a GCSE

grade in all subjects.

Routines and HabitsWisdom from last

year’s Year 12:

‘The key for me was having a routine of what I did each day. I made sure I knew what I wanted to cover and it was all ready for me to do so I didn’t spend time procrastinating.’

Wisdom from last year’s Year 12:

‘In the beginning I got it wrong . I was trying to cram everything into the weekend and I couldn’t keep it up. I don’t think the quality was good either. I just started to split it up over each day of the week and plan in my breaks. It really worked for me.’

Future PathwaysWisdom from last

year’s Year 12:

'I struggled to keep going through Year 10 - it all

seemed so far off - but I realised that summer that

I needed to do something. I looked at the grades I needed for

my A-levels and this was the inspiration and

motivation that saw me through’
