Guidance Department

Each year students must qualify to be placed in Honors classes. Just because they may have been in pre-honors the year before does not mean they are automatically placed the next year. Placement was based strictly on exam scores, his or her final average, and teacher recommendation.

Accepting Credit:We do not recommend your child accept credit for Algebra 1 Honors and/or

English 1 Honors with an average below an 85. An average of a C or lower shows your child did not learn the skills needed to advance to the next course. In addition, accepting credit begins your child's Grade Point Average (GPA). Once credit is accepted, it cannot be removed from your child's transcript.

This decision will not be made until the end of the school year. Discussion will begin at your child's Individual Graduation Plan (IGP) meeting, which will not begin until February 2016. We will talk about their current average and where your child stands at that time (if they are projected to receive credit).

It is extremely important that your child makes every effort to be successful. Based on the teachers personal schedules, they are available before and after school to help your child grasp concepts and skills. Take advantage of these opportunities!!!!

Both Classes

Increased Class LoadIndependent ExpectationsAttendance is vital (No more than 10 days) High School SC State Standards Parent SupportDaily HomeworkGPA-We do not recommend taking less than a "B" in these classes to the high school because this can negate future scholarships.End of Course Test counts 20% of students' final average!!

Remember that students are skipping a grade level in these classes, so the work will require more effort to achieve good grades.
