Behavior SystemWhy did we change our behavior management

system?

For the most part, our previous card system was limited to those times when the teacher asked that a student’s card be removed for misbehavior. Unfortunately, this created an environment in which teachers focused the majority of their attention on the identification of negative behavior. Make a mistake, lose a card. Conversely, do a good job of being a responsible, hardworking student, and nothing happened.

Our new clip-up system reinforces the good choices that students make while providing ample opportunity for those that make poor choices to redeem themselves.

Behavior System Part 2• Class: Class incentives build teamwork and unity! We have a class

jar. There is a jarin the classroom that is just waiting for “marbles” to fill it. Every time the class works together to accomplish a task and/or does well following classroom and school rules at any given time, they may earn marbles to fill the jar withOnce the jar is full, they will be rewarded in a special way.

• Individual: The students are rewarded on a regular basis. If they are consistently handing in their homework on time, completing their daily duty, and have good behavior, they have a chance to receive paw prints. These paw prints are collected in a jar and 3 names are randomly chosen every week to receive a prize. (Any items you may have to donate for the weekly drawings would be greatly appreciated.)

School Wide Positive Behavior System

• SWPBS• SWPBS is focused on acknowledging students

for consistent positive behavior. Our goal is to catch students being good and following the rules!

• Wally Wildcat Tickets• SWPBS is based on a problem-solving model

and aims to prevent inappropriate behavior through teaching and reinforcing appropriate behaviors.

Class Community Projects

• As a class during the first week we discussed how each of us were a part of our school community when we are here at North Coventry, and that when we go home we are part of a larger community. In an effort to help students recognize the impact the can have on both their communities students together brainstormed two projects that would allow them to positively impact their communities and leave their mark!

Page 21: Welcome! Mrs. Kulp’s Third Grade. JOIN US for the 5 th ANNUAL NORTH COVENTRY FOOTBALL NIGHT andTAILGATE! Friday, Sept. 18 th 5-6:30 (Prior to NORCO NIGHT.

Class Community Projects• For our NC Community: As a class we have made it our year long

mission to improve the NC playground by raising money to get more equipment and creating an outdoor reading/writing type of tree fort area. We will research our ideas, create a presentation and budget, and then learn how to write letters to work on getting donations towards our goal. All work will be integrated into the curriculum, and student driven. This is a year long project. Any help is appreciated.

• For our larger Pottstown Community: We have named our project Letters Lead To Smiles. Students will be writing monthly letters to senior citizens, and other groups of people we identify who would appreciate hearing about what they are currently learning in third grade. I hope for students to see the power behind their words and grow as writers.
