Witney Lake & Meadows is a 30 hectareCountry Park owned and managed byWitney Town Council. It offers an areafor informal recreation and natureconservation right on the doorstep of thehistoric market town of Witney.

Visitors will enjoy exploring the manyinteresting features that are home to arich variety of plants and animals. An old gravel pit flooded in the mid 1980's, today forms a deep lake, whilst a traditional hay meadow and wetgrassland, grazed by a small herd ofcattle, are found between the two streamsof the meandering River Windrush.

The creation of ponds, a ditch network,wet scrapes in the meadow, tree planting,a wildflower meadow and new woodlands,have further enhanced this special site.

Easily accessible on foot from the towncentre, the park has surfaced pathsencouraging access for all. Whetherwalking the dog, taking a stroll with the family or simply relaxing in thenatural world, Witney Lake and Meadowsis a hidden treasure just waiting to be discovered.

Witney Lake also offers a gateway to theLower Windrush Valley, an area that hasbeen transformed by mineral extractionover the last 50 years.

With extraction set to continue for manyyears to come the Lower Windrush ValleyProject was established to deliver a rangeof environmental initiatives that aim tostrengthen the landscape, protect andenhance the biodiversity and improvepublic access opportunities in the valley.

On foot / cycle: Access from town centre via AvenueTwo off Station Lane or Farm Mill off Witan Way. Lookout for the brown signs marking these routes.

By bus: Witney is well served by bus services fromOxford and the local area. Call Oxfordshire CountyTraveline on 01865 810405 for up to date timetables.

By car: The country park is just off the A40. Please notethat there is no parking at the country park itself, seemap overleaf for suggested parking areas.
