Freshman Advisory
A program that allows freshmen to engage and participate in a small, non-academic setting, to discuss social issues, digital citizenship, careers, life after high school etc., while making connections with peers and staff.
Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday, freshmen meet with a staff advisor and upperclassmen for the first 20 minutes of their lunch period to participate in group discussions and activities.

Moving toward Graduation
• A minimum of 21 credits are required to graduate. The 21 credits are a combination of core course requirements and electives.
• If a student fails a class that is a graduation requirement (for freshman: English, Math, Human Geography, Biology & PE) they must retake and pass the class during summer school.
• If a student drops a class, it will be replaced with a study hall. Students can only have one study hall per semester.
• If a student feels they need to be moved up or down a level in a core class, he/she should initiate a conversation with the teacher.

Helping your 9th grader succeed
● Encourage your son/daughter to take the initiative in sharing their school work with you.
● Be an active participant in their life. Share information about your day as well by inquiring about their day, their friends, and their school work.
● If your son/daughter is having difficulty in class, encourage him/her to talk with their teacher. It is important that they take ownership of their learning.
● Be sure your child is using a system to keep track of assignments, upcoming tests, projects etc. Different systems work for different people.

Helping your 9th grader succeed
● If you have concerns contact teacher and/or attend Parent/teacher conferences.
● Attend district-wide programs with your student● If you believe your child is not appropriately placed, have him/her talk to
the teacher. Placement is based on PSAT 8 and 8th grade teacher recommendations.
● Read Parent Newsletter & Principal Wardle’s Blog each week. Parent Newsletter is posted online under Parents - Parent News or a hard copy is available in the main office
