What is Advisory? This is a grade specific class that meets every regular day for 21minutes. The bulletin will be read each day.

Monday and Tuesday are advisory days. On these days you will be involved in grade level and school-wide activities. (Your teacher may adjust these days as needed.)

Thursday is a tutorial day. This day is devoted to silent reading, studying for classes, binder/planner checks, grade checks, or completing assignments.

Friday is the catch up day or Fun Friday – depending on the week’s events and progress.

Don’t forget - this class does count!YES!! This is a “Credit” or “No Credit” class.

Good participation and regular attendance are the two ways to ensure you will pass advisory.

This class adheres to the 15-day absence policy, so don’t cut class! “NC” (no credit) on your progress report or report card will calculate into your grade point average as an “F.” An “NC” grade could make you ineligible to participate in extra-curricular activities.

At the end of the semester if you fulfill the requirements for this class, you will earn one credit towards graduation.

The topics will be new!

The focus for each grade is a little different. Here are the themes for the four grade levels:

9th Grade: Make the Most of High School

10th Grade: Careers - Who am I and what do I want to be?

11th Grade: Planning For My Future

12th Grade: Life After High School

A Letter to Yourself

The remainder of today’s advisory period and Tuesday’s advisory period will be devoted to you writing a letter to yourself.

Think about what you would like to accomplish this year; what you’d like to accomplish before graduation; and what you’d like to accomplish in ten years. Include these goals in your letter.

You are starting with a clean slate today! Don’t waste it.

Once you finish your letter this week, please file it in your advisory folder. You will revisit this later in the school year.

Remember…..

High school is not new to you. Take advantage of your fresh start and make this year count!

Be on-time to class. Your punctuality tells everyone in the room about your level of commitment to school.

Don’t get distracted. Turn off your phone; leave your iPod at home; and take advantage of your free education. After high school, you will find your education can be very EXPENSIVE.

ASK QUESTIONS! The most successful people in the world will all tell you that it’s smart to ask questions.
