In this lesson you will learn:› What weight, measurement and scales are.› Reasons why need to know how heavy an

object is?› Different types of scales.› The features of a spring scale.

Look at the pictures and describe what you see to your partner.

Take turns speaking. Remember to listen carefully to the

things your partner has to say. If you don’t know what to say, you can

simply talk about the colors you see, or the shapes that you see.

Hmmm, I don’t know

what to say. Aha!

I see blue and I see fruit!

Look at the picture again and tell me:

What do these things tell us?

Look at the picture again and tell me:

What are some things we can weigh?

Page 9: Weights and balances 1

I use a scale to weigh my pet

elephant.

Page 10: Weights and balances 1

We use scales to measure weight.

A scale is a kind of machine that tells us how much weight there is.

Measure means to find the size or number of something.

Weight is how heavy you are.

We use Grams to talk about small weights and Kilograms to talk about big weights.

Bananas = 40,000 VND/Kilogram

Bananas = 2 Kilogram

How much do these bananas cost?

2 kg x 40,000 = 80,000 VND

I used to be very heavy. I have been

on a diet for 2 months!

Take a look in your text book, page 4.

What kind of scale do you see?

Take a look in your text book, page 4.

What are the 5 parts of a spring scale?

Page 28: Weights and balances 1

I will give you a small worksheet.

On the worksheet are the definitions of parts of a spring scale. (from your book)

Around the room are the 5 parts of a spring scale.

Use your book, walk around and match the part of spring scale to its definition.

Let’s work on a mind map together to review what we learned.

What should we include in the mind map? › Definitions of measure, weigh and scale.› 2 reasons why we need to know weight. › Types of scales.› Parts of a spring scale
