WE'RE HIRING CPOS! APPLY BY MAY 31, 2021! Employment Facts Although CPOs have full police authority in the enforcement of all Illinois Compiled Statutes, their primary enforcement mission is to focus upon those laws and activities associated with natural resource protection and recreational safety. Examples of these duties include:

• Enforcing criminal laws, vehicle laws, drug laws, etc. in the State Parks.

• Patrolling Illinois lakes and rivers to check boating safety equipment and watercraft registration. Responding to boating accidents.

• Enforcing the fish and wildlife laws (checking hunters, trappers, sport and commercial fishermen for licenses, fish & game size/possession limits, season dates and hours, etc.) enforcing the Federal fish & wildlife laws.

• Enforcing timber buyers and forest products transportation laws; endangered species laws; snowmobile registration and operation laws; commercial establishments (e.g. fur buyers, taxidermists, fish markets) and Departmental (IDNR) administrative rules and regulations.

• Assisting other law enforcement agencies, or helping in certain emergency/rescue situations.

Not all the duties involve enforcement. A CPO’s workload involves non-enforcement activities as well.

• Public speaking at sport or hunt clubs, civic organizations, school classrooms etc.

• Staffing information booths at major sports, travel or boating expositions and during “Law Enforcement Career Days” at specific colleges, universities and high schools in Illinois.

• Assisting with hunting, boating and snowmobiling safety education programs.

• Providing instruction to other police agencies in certain “conservation type” laws or related enforcement procedures.

• Working with college students who earn credit hours in an internship program.

• Attending various in-service type training programs as well as specialized schools (forensics, commercial establishments, sonar use, waterfowl enforcement, interview and interrogation schools, DUI and OUI enforcement, accident investigation (boating, hunting, snowmobile) etc.

Eligibility Requirements Applicants for the position of COPT must meet the following minimum professional standards:

The person must hold:

• A Bachelor’s Degree (in any field) or

• An Associate’s Degree and three consecutive years of experience as a police officer with the same law enforcement agency

The above collegiate educational requirements are waived if one of the following conditions have been met:

• Have been honorably discharged and awarded a Southwest Asia Service Medal, Kosovo Campaign Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, or Global Ware on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal by the United States Armed Forces

• Active members of the Illinois National Guard or a reservist component of the United States Armed Forces and awarded a Southwest Asia Service Medal, Kosovo Campaign Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, or Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal because of honorable service during deployment on active duty.

The individual must successfully obtain certification as a police officer under the standards in effect at the time and must successfully complete the Conservation Police Academy training program, consisting of not less than 400 hours of training within one year of hire. The IDNR has adopted an administrative rule listing those disciplines that qualify as directly related areas of study. Administrative Rule 2050.30.

Unless previously certified as a Police Officer in Illinois, selected applicants will be required to complete a paid, 14-week police certification at the Illinois State Police Academy. An additional paid, 14-week Conservation Academy must be completed as a condition of employment. During these training academies, selected applicants will be provided meals and lodging on-site, Monday-Friday. The Illinois Conservation Police offer competitive pay and benefits, including affordable, employer-sponsored health care, dental, and vision. Northeast Zone / District 2 – ACTING Sgt. Keith Siedsma (CPO Davis, CPO Doescher, CPO Fehrenbacher, CPO Iaffaldano, CPO Kelley, CPO Reid, CPO Semenik, CPO Siedsma, CPO Tepovich, CPO Van Wiltenburg, CPO Vaughan, CPO Winters) (Counties: Kane, Lake, McHenry)

KANE COUNTY CPOs: Iaffaldano, Doescher, Kelley, VanWiltenberg, and Reid conducted a fishing detail throughout Kane County. One Smallmouth bass was discovered during a catch-and-release only period. A written warning was issued as the young individual was not familiar with fishing regulations. Two fishermen were discovered without fishing licenses and issued one ticket and one written warning. CPO Iaffaldano arrested a fisherman who returned wanted on a warrant out of Aurora for failure to appear. LAKE COUNTY CPO Kelley responded to an injured deer complaint in Antioch, IL. CPO Kelley located the doe and was able to see, immediately, that she had two, broken legs. The deer was euthanized. CPO Kelley performed 3 boat registration inspections in Lake County. CPO Kelley performed safety inspections on 15 boats for the IHSA fishing tournament on the Chain O Lakes. CPO Reid responded to a complaint in the campground of Illinois Beach State Park. A camper had open alcohol and was melting down extension cords and other rubber-coated wire to remove the copper for scrap. It was discovered the individual had an outstanding arrest warrant out of Lake Co on a $20,000 bond. The individual was arrested for the outstanding warrant and transported to the Lake County Jail. CPO Reid responded to trespass complaints about individuals fishing on private property without the permission of the landowner. The fishermen were removed and cited for the violation. CPO Doescher issued a Wheeling man a citation for a child under 13 not wearing a life jacket while the boat was underway on the Chain O Lakes. CPO Davis checked boats and fishermen in various ponds of Lake Co. He issued a citation for a boat without any personal flotation devices and 3 written warnings for boat safety equipment and expired fishing licenses. MCHENRY COUNTY CPO Winters followed up on a boat rental club that did not have a rental license issued from the department. They admitted to operating in the summer of 2020 without the required license. They were issued a written warning and advised to get the rental license before operating the club this coming summer. CPOs Kelley and Davis checked fishermen/women at Stratton Lock and Dam at Moraine Hills State Park, Charles Miller bridge and several, other locations in McHenry County. A total of 1 citation and 8 written warnings were issued for various violations. CPO Doescher issued a citation at the McHenry Dam for using bait caught from another body of water.

GRUNDY COUNTY CPO Matt Anderson assisted with the IHSA Bass Fishing Sectional at Braidwood Lake FWA. I performed safety inspections of their boats and gave a brief safety briefing. KANKAKEE COUNTY While on patrol at the Kankakee River State Park, CPO Elliot located a vehicle that had driven down a horse/hiking trail and parked near a popular fishing area. Citations and warnings were issued to two fishermen for fishing without a valid 2021 Illinois fishing license, unlawful possession of alcohol in the park, and unlawful operation of a motor vehicle in the park. CPO Elliot continues fishing checks, many warnings have been issued for no valid 2021 Illinois fishing license. CPO Farber responded to the area of a pursuit that ISP District 21 was involved in on I-57. The driver of the vehicle was involved in a carjacking in Champaign, IL. Spike strips were deployed by a District 21 MSGT near Ashkum, IL. With one flat tire, the driver of the vehicle attempted to turn around in the grass median and got stuck. The subject was taken into custody without incident. A loaded handgun was discovered near the driver’s seat. CPO Farber assisted ISP District 21 with a fleeing and eluding case. CPO Farber located the suspect walking down Main St in Hopkins Park, IL. CPO Farber and Trooper Quick took the suspect into custody without incident. KENDALL COUNTY No Activity Reported for this County WILL COUNTY CPO Honiotes responded to a Will County complaint of a subject shooting a Canada goose with a .22 rifle in his neighbor's back yard, while the complainant was outside in the same yard. Interviews were performed with both parties and based on the complainant’s statement, which he agreed to testify to in court, the subject was issued 3 citations and 3 written warnings.

Northeast Zone / District 4, Sgt. Josh Mooi (CPO Farrell, CPO Gates, CPO Gilliam, CPO Hopper, CPO Kater, CPO Kusta, CPO Longley, CPO Vik, CPO Waigand) (Counties: Cook, DuPage) COOK COUNTY CPO Hopper was conducting fisherman compliance checks along the Des Plaines River. A fisherman had two fish and no fishing license. The two fish were released. A citation was issued for no fishing license. CPO Hopper conducted a boat patrol with other CPOs. CPO Hopper conducted safety and registration inspections and issued a citation for failure to register a vessel. CPO Kusta was conducting sportfish enforcement at a Cook County quarry. CPO Kusta observed a fisherman and requested his valid sportfishing license. The fisherman presented CPO Kusta with his expired license. CPO Kusta issued a written warning and educated the fisherman when the license expired. CPO Kusta was conducting recreational boat enforcement on a Chicago River. CPO Kusta observed a watercraft with no registration displayed. CPO Kusta stop the watercraft and requested the current registration. The boat owner was unable to produce what was requested. CPO Kusta cited the owner for the operation of the unnumbered watercraft.

CPO Kusta was conducting recreational boat enforcement on the Chicago River. CPO Kusta observed a watercraft creating a wake in a No Wake Zone. CPO Kusta stopped the watercraft and advised the watercraft operator of his violation. CPO Kusta issued a written warning for the violation and educated the operator regarding No Wake Zone on the Chicago River. CPO Farrell was on patrol in Worth when he located a fisherman in Worth Lake, a restricted area. CPO Farrell drove to the other side of the lake and walked into the timber where it was assumed the fisherman went in. CPO Farrell discovered a trail and a large cut in the chain-link fence and went to go make contact with the induvial. CPO Farrell saw that the individual approaching him, CPO Farrell hid behind a clump of trees to ensure a good location of initial contact. The individual walked past CPO Farrell and along the fence. CPO Farrell made contact and the individual stated he knew he wasn’t supposed to be in there but had been fishing here since he was a kid. He also informed that there were other places to get inside the fence and that many people fish there as well. The individual was issued one citation and one WW. CPO Farrell was driving westbound on IL Highway 171 when he noticed a vehicle pull out in front of him, crossing the centerline and making a wide exaggerated turn. The vehicle then proceeded to stop at a greenlight approximately 25 yards behind the white stop line and then turned into an out-of-business fueling station. CPO Farrell went by the fueling station and turned around in a parking lot. As CPO Farrell approached a stop sign the vehicle passed by. The vehicle then proceeded to cross the center and fog line numerous times. CPO Farrell conducted a traffic stop and the driver was arrested for DUI. CPO Longley conducted sport fishing enforcement at various locations near Calumet City, Orland Park, Hazel Crest, Worth, and Alsip. One written warning was issued for sport fishing requirements. CPO Gates was on boat patrol on the Chicago River over the weekend along with CPO’s Kater and Waigand. During the patrol, CPOs performed over 20 boat inspections. Minor infractions were corrected with verbal and written warnings ranging from: No sounding device, battery terminals not covered, battery not secured, no throwable PFD, improver display of registration, and improper passenger location while the vessel is underway. Citations were issued for no valid registration, not enough life jackets on board, improper life vest for a child, and “no wake” zone violations. While en route to a boat patrol, CPO Gates was traveling on the expressway with the in squad radar activated when a car overtook CPO’s squad traveling 97mph. CPO Gates performed a traffic stop on the car. The driver was cited for traveling 97mph in a 65 mph zone. The driver was given a warning for expired registration. CPO Waigand received information from Phoenix police Department concerning an abandoned baby raccoon. The Phoenix Police Department found the animal and rescued it from traffic and other animals in the area. CPO Waigand was contacted and met with a Phoenix Police Officer to transport the raccoon to a wildlife center in Dupage county. The baby raccoon was transported and admitted to Willowbrook Wildlife Center. While patrolling the Chicago river CPO Waigand, Kusta, and Hopper conducted twelve boat inspections on various boats including sailboats and recreational boats. During the inspections on four vessels were each cited for failure to display valid registration or unnumbered watercraft. CPO Waigand conducted boat inspections for the High School Fishing tournament at Busse Woods South pool. During the inspections, two boats did not have valid registration and were both issued a written warning for failure to display valid registration. DUPAGE COUNTY

CPO Gates performed boat and fish enforcement at Silver Lake in DuPage County. CPO Educated the new boaters on the Illinois boating laws and the need for registration on any vessel that has a gas or electric motor. Written warnings were issued for no registration and no sounding device. CPO Gates received a complaint regarding a man fishing at a Wheaton Park District lake using more than two poles. CPO Gates arrived on the scene and located the father and son who were fishing with a total of 5 poles. Both men were actively fishing. The father claimed ownership of the third pole and was issued a written warning for violating the lake's two-pole limit.

CPO Wagner issued multiple written warnings during this time frame for minor boat, fish, and turkey violations. CPO Wagner cited an individual for speeding 77 MPH posted 55 MPH zone. CPO Engledow conducted a traffic stop and issued a citation to an individual for speeding 78mph in a 55mph zone. CPO Roesch received a TIPS complaint of turkey hunters at Kishwaukee Nature Preserve hunting without a windshield card. CPO Roesch encountered 3 individuals, a dad, and 2 sons. 1 individual was 17 years old and hunting with a bow. No other individuals were hunting. The individual did not have a valid permit for Kishwaukee SFWA, had no hunting license, and did not have a windshield card. CPO Roesch issued the father a citation for parental responsibility for allowing a minor to hunt without a valid permit. CPO Roesch issued the minor 2 WW for hunting without a license and hunting at a site without a windshield card. LASALLE COUNTY CPO Martin responded to a complaint regarding an out-of-state resident fishing from the LaSalle County Nuclear Generating Station area of LaSalle Lake which is restricted. LaSalle Station security discovered the fishermen while doing perimeter checks. The individual said he was unaware he was fishing at a Nuclear Powerplant. He did not have a fishing license. The violations were addressed. CPO Martin was contacted by an out-of-state resident who leased farm property to a LaSalle County man. The tenant had unlawfully cut down several trees to include black walnut and hickory without the landowner's consent. The unlawful cutting of trees is under investigation. CPO Martin issued 12 written warnings to fishermen fishing without a valid fishing license and completed approximately 90 sport fishing compliance checks. CPO Martin received a call of an injured bird on I-39 northbound off I-80. CPO Martin located an injured hawk in three lanes of busy interstate traffic. She rescued the hawk and transported it to a local rehabber. CPO Martin noticed a tent at a state fishing area on the I & M Canal which is not a camping spot. The tent contained sleeping items, hygiene items, and open alcohol (no alcohol is permitted in this area). After investigation, it was learned the owner of the tent had recently been kicked out of his apartment. He is known to “wander” and can be hard to handle at times, according to local police. CPO Martin responded to a call of a Monte Carlo that had been parked overnight at the Illini State Park boat launch with occupants. There is a camping area at Illini State Park, the remainder of the park, to include the boat launch, which closes at 10 PM. When CPO Martin approached the vehicle in the afternoon, she observed a female sleeping in the passenger seat and a male sleeping in the back seat with a small dog. The occupants of the vehicle stated they were just visiting for the day. They both were suspended drivers and stated they had a friend driving them around who was walking around the park. They were advised they could not stay overnight in that area of the park. Their “friend” was never found. CPO Martin noticed five kayakers exiting the Vermilion River at a local park. One kayaker said he did not know the water would be so deep and at one point it was over his head. He did not have a life jacket, neither did the other four kayakers. One of them had also been fishing without a fishing license. The violations were addressed. CPO Binsbacher issued a citation for possession of a short Walleye on the Illinois River at Starved Rock. While checking fisherman at Krauses Landing in Marseilles CPO Wagner found two individuals fishing w/out fishing licenses. Citations were issued for the violation. While checking fisherman at Lasalle Lake CPO Wagner found one individual fishing w/out a fishing license and another individual in possession of alcohol in a restricted area. While checking fisherman at Starved Rock CPO Wagner issued a citation to an individual for fishing w/out a fishing license. CPO Wagner cited an individual for speeding 76 MPH posted 55 MPH zone. CPO Wagner is currently investigating the camp host being bitten by a dog at Illini State Park. CPO Wagner responded to a call of an individual falling and twisting their ankle at Starved Rock SP. The victim was met at the hospital where he was treated and released for a sprained ankle. CPO Pankey observed three individuals fishing in a nature preserve. Appropriate enforcement action was taken. PUTNAM COUNTY No Activity Reported for this County WINNEBAGO COUNTY CPO Roesch, CPO Alvarez, and Sgt. Wire responded to a call at Rock Cut State Park about individuals shooting air guns. CPO Roesch located the individuals responsible. CPO Roesch located 2 paintball guns in the car and detected a smell of burnt cannabis coming from the car. CPO Roesch also observed a bottle of open alcohol on the floorboard of the car. CPO Roesch conducted a vehicle search and located marijuana and a loaded handgun in the center console. The gun was rand through LEADS and was not stolen. The individual who owned the handgun had a valid concealed carry out of Wisconsin. The handgun was taken apart and placed in the trunk of the car. CPO Roesch issued 3 citations (alcohol in a state park, civil cannabis violation, and shooting an air-powered gun in a state park). CPO Roesch encountered 2 individuals in possession of short bass at Lake Victoria and issued 1 citation and 1 WW for the violations. CPO Roesch and CPO Alvarez checked a fisherman without a license on the Rock River. The individual had a warrant out of McHenry County for traffic. McHenry county advised the warrant was valid but to issue the individual an NTA and a new court date. CPO Roesch and Alvarez checked fisherman at Rockford Dam. 1 individual had a valid warrant out of Winnebago County for assault. The individual was arrested and transported to Winnebago County jail.

CPO Blazinic has been writing entering / remaining in a restricted area in Siloam Springs State Park. Individuals are unlawfully mushroom hunting in the turkey hunting area before 1:00 PM. CPO Blazinic has been checking spring turkey hunters in Adams County. Due to nicer weather, CPO Blazinic has been checking sport fishermen and writing sport fishing violations. CPO Blazinic checked trout fishermen at Siloam Springs State Park. BROWN COUNTY No Activity Reported for this County CALHOUN COUNTY No Activity Reported for this County GREENE COUNTY No Activity Reported for this County HANCOCK COUNTY CPO Blazinic responded to the Mississippi River near Hamilton, IL. to assist CPO Wheatley with a boat accident. Two (2) individuals catfishing near the Keokuk Dam took several large waves over the stern of their boat. The boat swamped in approximately (3) three to (4) four feet of water. The occupants were able to call 911 and were rescued by Keokuk Fire. CPO Wheatley is handling the investigation. CPO Wheatley completed his investigation on a dumping case in Panther Creek in Bowen. Through a lot of legwork, computer work, and speaking with neighbors, CPO Wheatley was able to identify possible suspects that lived near the dumping area. CPO Wheatley conducted a short interview with the suspects and was able to gain a confession. CPO Wheatley issued a citation for the unlawful dumping and the subject will have his day in court. JERSEY COUNTY CPO Michael Goetten attended the Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony in Springfield. CPO Michael Goetten made contact with a subject preparing to occupy a motorcycle without registration at PMSP. The subject admitted he did not have a driver's license and claimed the registration blew off. CPO Goetten ran a check on the VIN and discovered the motorcycle was stolen out of St. Louis. The subject was arrested. CPO Michael Goetten stopped a truck with no registration at PMSP. The driver unlawfully possessed cannabis in the vehicle. The passenger was wanted on a Jersey County arrest warrant. A search of the vehicle revealed a container with crystal methamphetamine and three containers with liquid methamphetamine. The total weight of the methamphetamine was 90 grams. The driver was cited and release. The passenger was arrested on the warrant and possession of 15-100 grams of methamphetamine.

A passenger was wanted on an Alton PD arrest warrant for possession of methamphetamine and a Wood River Police Department arrest warrant for aggravated DUI. Bond was $75,000 (10%). William Gilmer (CPO Gerdes, CPO McClenning, CPO Snodgrass, CPO Thornley, CPO Wahlbrink, CPO Wright) (Counties: Cass, Christian, Logan, Mason, Menard, Morgan, Sangamon, & Scott) CASS COUNTY At Jim Edgar Panther Creek, CPO Wahlbrink noticed a watercraft on Gridley Lake using a gas motor, but only electric trolling motors are allowed. A boat safety inspection revealed there were not enough personal flotation devices onboard the watercraft. The appropriate enforcement action was taken. While working turkey hunters at Jim Edger Panther Creek in Cass County CPO Snodgrass located a subject mushroom hunting at 10 am. During spring turkey season it is unlawful to mushroom hunt state sites before 1 pm due to safety issues. The subject was issued a written warning and educated on the violation. CHRISTIAN COUNTY CPO Snodgrass received information of a subject walking around Sangcrhis Lake State Park with a long gun. CPO Snodgrass and Gerdes responded to the area where they located a male subject carrying a loaded .22 long rifle. It is unlawful to use or display any firearm in the state park unless during a designated hunting season. The subject was issued a citation for the violation. LOGAN COUNTY CPO Thornley conducted recreational boat enforcement in Logan and Menard Counties. CPO Thornley conducted a boat inspection of a vessel on Salt Creek. CPO Thornley observed the operator had a child next to him on the boat. When the operator arrived at the shore, CPO Thornley advised the operator that anyone under the age of 13 had to be in a lifejacket at all times. CPO Thornley issued a citation for the violation. Several written warnings were issued for other equipment violations. MASON COUNTY CPO Gerdes responded to hunting without permission complaint near Mason City involving a hunter who was believed to have killed a turkey on the property which he did not have permission to hunt. CPO Gerdes investigated the kill site and interviewed the suspected hunter. After putting all of the evidence together, CPO Gerdes determined the turkey was killed illegally and the man was cited for the violation. CPOs Wahlbrink and McClenning investigated a complaint involving the unlawful take of a turkey vulture. Upon arriving at the suspected property, the CPOs discovered a deceased turkey vulture and a tagged 12-pt deer head. An interview led to the admission of the unlawful take of the turkey vulture and that the deer, although tagged by one of the residents, had been taken by an individual who did not have a deer permit. Three individuals were cited for the offenses and the 12-pt deer head was seized. MENARD COUNTY No Activity Reported for this County MORGAN COUNTY

While on patrol on a busy public roadway, CPO Wahlbrink observed a UTV pass him in the opposite direction. An uncased rifle was displayed in the back window. CPO Wahlbrink stopped the UTV. When questioned about the rifle, the driver stated he uses the rifle to shoot coyotes and admitted to shooting coyotes in the recent past. The individual did not have a hunting license or habitat stamp. The appropriate enforcement action was taken. SANGAMON COUNTY CPO Gerdes observed two fishermen in a boat on the Sangamon River near Riverton. Both fishermen appeared nervous after seeing CPO Gerdes at which time they began going up and down the river in front of the boat ramp as if waiting for CPO Gerdes to leave the area. A short time later, CPO Gerdes checked the fishermen and found several catfish on board and discovered neither man had a fishing license. Both men stated the fish had been a gift from another fisherman. The men were cited for fishing without a valid fishing license. CPO McClenning and CPO Snodgrass conducted boat patrol on lake Springfield, 3 written warnings were issued. CPO Thornley conducted sport fish enforcement of Menard and Sangamon Counties. CPO Thornley, CPO Gerdes, and Intern Huff checked fishermen fishing below the Spaulding Dam. This is also a restricted area. The fisherman was issued a citation for no fishing license. The fisherman was determined to have a valid warrant, The fisherman was issued an NTA for the warrant. The fisherman was also issued a written warning for fishing without permission. The other individuals were issued a written warning for criminal trespass. SCOTT COUNTY During spring turkey season, CPO Wahlbrink discovered an individual who harvested a Jake while hunting in Scott County with a Morgan County permit. The individual unlawfully took a wild turkey by hunting without a valid permit and was cited for the offenses. Central Zone / District 11, Sgt. Dan Greuel (CPO Barnes, CPO Hyatt, CPO Mieure, CPO Miller, & CPO Moody) (Counties: Clark, Coles, Cumberland, Douglas, Edgar, Moultrie, Shelby) CLARK COUNTY CPO Hyatt did several patrols through Lincoln Trail State Park and the lake. Patrols have resulted in 2 written warnings for out-of-state campers who did not have fishing licenses. CPO Hyatt has been working on a case involving a property line dispute between neighbors, some tree stands have been taken down due to the issue. A land survey has been ordered before any enforcement action will be taken with the hopes of all stands being returned. COLES COUNTY CPO Moody cited an Arthur man in Humboldt for hunting rabbits out of season. The man received written warnings for hunting with no license or habitat stamp and hunting within 100 yards of an inhabited dwelling. CPO Hyatt performed several sport fish checks at Lake Paradise and resulted in 4 written warnings. CPO Mieure while patrolling Coles county waterways issued two written warnings to occupants of a boat without lifejackets and one written warning to a man fishing at Lake Charleston without a fishing license. CPO Mieure assisted Coles county deputies on a single-vehicle accident southbound on Lincoln Hwy.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY CPO Hyatt assisted Neoga PD with an individual who has a dead deer rotting in a 55 gal. drum in his front yard. Neoga thought there was an issue with the deer but it was documented as roadkill. The individual stated that he was using the deer as compost for his garden. CPO Hyatt performed a boat inspection for a resident of Toledo who recently purchased a boat from Indiana and did some reconstructive work on the boat. CPO Hyatt assisted an elderly resident with contacting a nuisance trapper and local hunters with a coyote problem she has been having recently. The resident has lost several chickens and has had her dog attacked within several days of each other. DOUGLAS COUNTY CPO Hyatt issued a nuisance permit to the Walnut Point State Park staff for the removal of raccoons from the camping area. EDGAR COUNTY No Activity Reported for this County MOULTRIE COUNTY CPO Moody responded to the Kaskaskia River after a man backing his boat into the river ended up with the truck in the river as well. The truck came out of gear and the current carried the truck downstream about 50 yards until it was fully submerged. The dive team assisted in hooking up the tow line and removing the truck, trailer, and boat from the river. The man was uninjured. CPO Moody cited two Sullivan men for dumping a large amount of garbage on the Wildlife Management Area. CPO Moody cited a Decatur man for failure to have any lifejackets on the Okaw River as well as various other written warnings for boating-related issues. SHELBY COUNTY CPO Barnes conducted boat safety checks at Lake Shelbyville for the IHSA sectional bass tournament. Central Zone / District 19, ACTING Sgt. Matt Graden (CPO Ausmus, CPO Graden, CPO Reeves, CPO Sanford, CPO Viverito, CPO Z. Williams went to Foosland Sportsman’s Club and spoke about the various hunting laws at a Hunter Safety Education class. DEWITT COUNTY CPO Ausmus conducted boat inspections for the ISHA Bass Fishing sectional tournament on Clinton lake. A total of 19 boats were checked for proper equipment. CPO Ausmus attended AR-15 Armorer Course and firearms instructor training at the Chillicothe Sportsman’s Club. FORD COUNTY CPO Z. Williams went to Tri-Point Junior High in Piper City and talked to two eighth-grade classes about the life of a Conservation Police Officer. IROQUOIS COUNTY

Williams received a complaint regarding a deer hanging in the backyard of a residence. CPO Workman and Williams went to the location and interviewed the resident and neighbors. The neighbors provided photos and written statements regarding the witnessing of the hanging deer. The resident of the home advised her boyfriend and his friend shot the deer the night before while coyote hunting. CPO Williams and Workman contacted the boyfriend and friend. The officers interviewed the subjects and the subjects admitted to unlawfully taking a whitetail deer. The subjects escorted the CPOs to the carcass and surrendered the firearm used to take the deer. Each subject was cited with 6 citations and 4 written warnings. CPO Z. Williams and CPO Workman responded to a complaint of a deer killed by a rifle in Harristown. The suspects and deer were not on the scene when CPOs arrived. Both CPOs interviewed witnesses and found evidence at the residence of a freshly killed deer. CPO Z. Williams obtained a picture taken by a neighbor of a freshly killed whitetail deer hanging from a swing set in one of the suspect’s yards. Upon further investigation, CPO Z. Williams was able to identify the path the deer was dragged due to a path of deer hair, broken foliage, and blood. CPO Z. Williams and CPO Workman both interviewed the girlfriend who was at the residence. She provided very useful information and a written statement. CPO Workman contacted the suspects and arranged to meet at the local Sam’s Club in Forsyth. CPOs met both suspects in the parking lot and separated them. During the interviews, CPOs learned both suspects went out late the night before to coyote hunt [illegal during dark hours this time of year]. They saw something move in the brush and shot at it with the .22 caliber rifle they had. It turned out to be a whitetail deer. Instead of calling local CPOs, both suspects loaded the deer into their truck, transported the deer to the residence in Harristown, dumped it behind the house in some timber, then went to sleep. The following morning, they decided to try to process it themselves in the middle of the backyard. While taking a break inside, suspects were tipped off that Conservation Police were coming. They ran outside, loaded the deer in the truck bed, and drove out of town at a high rate of speed. CPOs learned the deer was pregnant and the suspects attempted to dump the deer carcass and unborn fawns in a creek just outside of town. MCLEAN COUNTY No Activity Reported for this County PIATT COUNTY No Activity Reported for this County VERMILION COUNTY CPO Sanford responded to a complaint of individuals riding mountain bikes in a closed area designated for turkey hunting. CPO made contact with the individuals, who rode past multiple “closed” signs before entering the trail system. The individuals were issued citations and written warnings for the violation(s). CPO Sanford investigated a trespass complaint during turkey season. CPO Sanford made contact with the complainant, who was able to identify the trespasser. Charges were referred to the Vermilion Co. SA for review. CPO Sanford conducted recruitment for the upcoming class of Conservation Police Trainees. In total, CPO Sanford has contacted over 50 individuals regarding the openings, as well as 6 colleges, 3 National Guard Units, and 2 employment coordinators for the Veterans Administration. In total, recruitment efforts have reached well over 500 potential qualified applicants.

BOND COUNTY No Activity Reported for this County CLINTON COUNTY CPO’s Macias, Chase, Davis, and Gerard along with Lt Rollins have been on a recruiting effort the entire month of May. These volunteers have been talking with colleges, civic groups, military installations, and various other groups seeking potential candidates for the next class of game wardens. Together they are working with potential recruits and explain the hiring process which includes an application, a physical fitness test, interviews, and medical/psychological examinations. MADISON COUNTY No Activity Reported for this County MONROE COUNTY CPO Schachner and CPO G. Anderson investigated a complaint of a possible over the limit of crappie that occurred in Jackson County. Multiple interviews were conducted and no fishing violations were discovered. Instead, the CPOs received a confession about a violation of not reporting harvest during turkey season. The hunter was cited for the offense. MONTGOMERY COUNTY CPO Liebl assisted with the IHSA sectional bass fishing tournament held at Coffeen Lake. 26 teams from 14 different high schools participated in the event. CPO Liebl assisted with safety inspections on all vessels before they were allowed to go out on the lake. RANDOLPH COUNTY CPO Schachner, CPO Ray, and CPO Sievers assisted Randolph County in searching for a subject whose truck was discovered overturned in a creek after running off a roadway. The subject was not in the vehicle nor the creek and there was an extensive 3-hour search involving approximately 30 citizen volunteers and at least 6 law enforcement officers as well as volunteer firemen. There was a serious concern that the subject may have suffered a head injury and was dazed and wandering around in the woods. The brushy timber upstream and downstream on both sides of the creek was searched thoroughly for a considerable distance. Eventually, evidence was discovered indicating the subject had been at his residence after the crash, (the residence was approximately a mile from the crash scene.) A short time later, the uninjured subject was discovered hiding/asleep in the woods behind his house. ST. CLAIR COUNTY CPO Wichern reviewed the Illinois Wildlife Laws with a group of (22) youth hunters who attended a Hunter’s Safety Class at the Millstadt Sportsmen’s Club, where all (22) students successfully completed their test and received their Hunter’s Safety Certificate. CPO Wichern cited a boat operator on the Kaskaskia river for failing to have his 5yr old son wear a youth PFD, while underway near New Athens. CPO Wichern cited (2) fisherman for fishing without licenses in Silver creek near SAFB. CPO Liebl and TA Sgt. Sievers responded to a call of a boat floating unoccupied on the Kaskaskia River. Upon arrival was evident that there had been an engine fire. The boat had not been registered for several years, which made tracking down the owner difficult. The current owner was finally able to be reached and

confirmed that no one had been injured in the fire. The boat was being test-driven by a prospective buyer when the engine caught on fire. The operator was safely able to get the boat to shore and tie it off. The owner of the boat told the operator to leave it there and he would get another boat the next day to help tow it back to the launch. A boat accident report was completed and appropriate enforcement action will be taken on the boat not being registered properly. CPO Ray Responded to a friend and family member calling 911 from Frank Holten State Park. They requested assistance with a subject needing medical attention. CPO Ray arrived on the scene and observed the subject sitting on the passenger's side of his friend's vehicle. He was recently released from Barnes psychiatric Hospital 3 days prior and stopped taking medication for Bipolar disorder. The subject was very agitated and had not slept in two days. CPO Ray recently received CIT training which, assisted in gaining voluntary compliance from the subject to receive medical treatment. The subject was transported by ambulance to Barnes Hospital. CPO Ray patrolled Peabody River King enforcing boating and fishing compliance. A subject was cited for the operation of a 50hp motor on a 10hp posted lake and noted several boating violations. Williams) (Counties: Franklin, Gallatin, Hamilton, Hardin, Jefferson, Perry, Saline, & White) FRANKLIN COUNTY CPO Tapley issued a subject a citation for fishing without a valid fishing license. CPO Tapley took a report of damage to property at the Rend Lake Resort. GALLATIN COUNTY No Activity Reported for this County HAMILTON COUNTY CPO Haggerty is conducting an investigation related to boat registration titling issues. Pending Investigation. CPO Jourdan cited a former Hamilton County resident for killing a deer in December of 2020 without a deer permit. The case stemmed from a complaint. The man had recently moved out of state. CPO Jourdan spoke with the man over the phone and he admitted killing the deer without a permit and driving to town to get a permit. CPO Jourdan attended rifle armorer training at Chillicothe Sportsmen's Club. There were 20 CPOs in attendance for the class. The class was a few days of familiarization with AR rifles and the disassembly/assembly of that weapon. A written test and practical examination followed the instruction. The last few days of the week were spent on the rifle range there shooting. HARDIN COUNTY No Activity Reported for this County JEFFERSON COUNTY CPO Williams attended the Greater Saint Louis Area Council, BSA Spring Cub Launch at Wayne Fitzgerrell State Park. Approximately 50 Scouts were given a demonstration on the Region’s remote side-scan sonar

boat. Including a hands-on experience of operating and spotting a known target placed in the small pond. The remote sonar boat is used to locate targets submerged in smaller bodies of water where a traditional sonar boat would not be practical or accessible. PERRY COUNTY CPO Lewis was patrolling Pyramid State Recreation Area when he observed a subject run and hide in a bush. The individual left a bucket of fish and fishing poles behind. CPO Lewis approached the bush and requested the subject to come out. The fisherman complied, and CPO Lewis discovered he possessed a 15 ½" Largemouth Bass. There is a 14"- 18" protected slot at Pyramid. The fisherman admitted he had not measured the bass before keeping it. CPO Lewis issued him a citation for failing to release the bass. SALINE COUNTY CPO Wilkinson was working turkey hunters when he observed a vehicle parked in the roadway, on a bridge. Considering the vehicle was illegally parked and in the way of traffic, CPO Wilkinson conducted a stop on the vehicle. Upon contact with the operator, a strong odor of burnt cannabis was emitted from the vehicle. CPO Wilkinson explained to the operator the vehicle was illegally parked. The operator said they had stopped to go hiking. The operator was then asked if there was cannabis in the vehicle and the operator said no, it had all been smoked. CPO Wilkinson then asked how long ago it was smoked. The operator said three hours ago. Even though consent was not needed to search the vehicle, CPO Wilkinson requested consent to search the vehicle due to the odor of burnt cannabis. The operator consented and provided CPO Wilkinson the location and amounts of cannabis in the vehicle. There was a small amount of cannabis and THC Wax "DAB". CPO Wilkinson seized the cannabis and issued citations to the operator. Field sobriety was performed and the vehicle was released to the passenger who had not participated in the use of any cannabis or "DAB". WHITE COUNTY No Activity Reported for this County Southern Zone / District 15, Sgt. Timothy Buhnerkempe (CPO Hyatt, CPO Roper, CPO Roundcount, CPO Skelton, CPO Smith, CPO Swindle, CPO Taylor & CPO Willand) (Counties: Clay, Crawford, Edwards, Effingham, Fayette, Jasper, Lawrence, Marion, Richland, Wabash, & Wayne) CLAY COUNTY CPO Smith received a complaint from the site superintendent of Flag Pond S.N.A., regarding damage to the boundary signs defining the park property and private property. Apparently, the farmer of the private property knocked down several signs with his farm implement and crossed over and tilled park property. This situation is ongoing since last year where CPO Smith spoke to him about farming too close and damaging signs. CPO Smith issued a citation for tilling up flora-fauna and a warning for damaging the signs. CRAWFORD COUNTY Crawford County Sheriffs Dept contacted CPO Taylor regarding a baby owl sitting on the ground in the Robinson City Park. CPO Taylor responded and collected the baby Barred owl and took it to a wildlife rehabilitator EDWARDS COUNTY No Activity Reported for this County EFFINGHAM COUNTY CPO Smith attended a hunter safety education class at the County Line Shooting Center. CPO Smith taught on hunter safety, wildlife laws, and firearm safety. FAYETTE COUNTY While patrolling Vandalia lake CPO Roper observed an individual fishing from the bank. CPO Roper conducted a fishing compliance check. It was learned the individual did not possess a valid fishing license. While issuing the individual a written warning for the license violation CPO Roper learned the subject had a warrant for their arrest. CPO Roper detained the individual for the warrant. Due to Covid restrictions, the

Fayette County Jail was unable to accept the individual on a warrant. CPO Roper issued the individual a warning for no valid fishing license, and a notice to appear in Fayette County Court. CPO Roper released the individual on scene. CPO Roper was traveling on I70 in Fayette County when a vehicle passed him at a high rate of speed. CPO Roper conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was issued a citation for speeding 94 mph in a 70 mph zone. CPO Roper was traveling on I70 in Fayette County when a vehicle passed him at a high rate of speed. The individual was issued a mandatory court date in Fayette County Court. CPO Roper was on patrol at Ramsey Lake when he observed a watercraft returning to the launch. CPO Roper observed a small child in the boat not wearing a life jacket. CPO Roper conducted a stop on the watercraft. CPO Roper learned there was no proper fitting life jacket on the watercraft for the child, no sounding device onboard, and the battery was not strapped down. CPO Roper issued the operator of the boat a citation for allowing a child under 13 to not wear a flotation device in a watercraft. CPO Roper also issued written warnings for equipment violations. JASPER COUNTY CPO Hyatt worked at newton lake and Sam parr writing 2 warnings for boat equipment, and one for no fishing license. CPO Hyatt assisted Jasper County with a possible suicidal subject in Sam Parr State Park. The subject was located and spoken to by Jasper County. His family showed up and was going to try and get him admitted somewhere to get him the help he needed. LAWRENCE COUNTY While working along the river in Lawrence Co. CPO Taylor observed a red Chevy pickup parked along the river road. CPO Taylor ran 10-28 through Illinois State Police and the vehicle came back stolen out of Lawrence County. CPO Taylor was contacted by a FED EX driver stating he was at a residence in Lawrence Co. and a baby owl was sitting in the driveway. CPO Taylor collected the baby Barred owl and took it to a wildlife rehabilitator MARION COUNTY CPO Swindle responded to a dispatch notification and an injured hawk. Upon arrival, CPO Swindle made contact with the complainant who observed the hawk. After identifying its injury, CPO Swindle made contact with wildlife biologist John Bunnell. John Bunnel arrived on the scene and was able to secure the hawk in a transport case. Te hawk was moved to a safer location out of town where it could recover from its injuries. CPO Swindle also responded to a complaint of hunter trespassing. A deer stand was found on private property and reported. CPO Swindle made contact with the owner of the deer stand and had it removed. RICHLAND COUNTY CPO Hyatt has a deer investigation for this coming year from a complaint. And he has begun to prepare for it marking properties on Onx that need to be walked and checked for bait.

CPO Willand conducted boat safety and fishing compliance checks at East Fork Lake. CPO Willand found two Indiana individuals to have taken an over-limit of bluegill from the lake. CPO Willand issued both individuals citations. WABASH COUNTY CPO Roundcount was checking fishermen at Beall Woods State Park. One fisherman was discovered to be a child sex offender. The child sex offender was arrested for loitering at a State Park. WAYNE COUNTY No Activity Reported for this County Southern Zone / District 16, Sgt. Kristin Taylor (CPO G. JACKSON COUNTY CPO G. Anderson issued 2 teens written warnings for riding ATVs on public lands not designated for ATV use. CPO G. Anderson completed boat safety inspections for the IHSA Bass Fishing Sectional at Kinkaid Lake. Over 20 boats were entered into the IHSA Sectional. JOHNSON COUNTY No Activity Reported for this County MASSAC COUNTY CPO Wolf cited an individual driving a UTV on Mermet Lake State Wildlife area. The individual was also cited for illegal transportation of alcohol. CPO Wilkinson patrolled parks and lakes. While on patrol in the area of Mermet lake, CPO Wilkinson met a vehicle traveling 78 MPH in a 55 MPH zone. A traffic stop was conducted and enforcement action was taken. CPO Wilkinson later discovered a non-resident fishing at Mermet without a valid fishing license. The individual was issued a written warning and purchased a license on the scene. CPO Spinka assisted the Massac county sheriff’s department with a suicidal subject in a remote area. The situation was resolved without incident. POPE COUNTY CPO Wilkinson has been working on a deer hunting investigation and working turkey hunters. PULASKI COUNTY No Activity Reported for this County UNION COUNTY CPO Wilkinson and Spinka assisted Union County Sherriff's Office and Anna police department. A domestic dispute took place with a subject armed with two knives. Upon arrival, it was determined the subject was also suicidal. Verbal judo was utilized as well as commands.
