2. A study on the topic “perception of tribal people about formal education” comes under

the type

(A) Ethnographic (B) Historical (C) Experimental (D) Expost facto

Answer - (A) ETNOGRAPHIC= Ethnographic research is a qualitative method where

researchers observe and/or interact with astudy's participants in their real-life

environment.Ethnography was popularised by anthropology, but is used across a wide

range of social sciences.

EXPOST FACTO = Ex post facto design is a quasi-experimental studyexamining how an

independent variable, present prior to the study in the participants, affects a dependent

variable. A quasi-experimental study simply means participants are not randomly

assigned.

3. Errors in the findings of an experimental study caused by deliberate selection of some

bright students for experimental group is known as

(A) Random sampling error (B) Systematic sampling error (C) Random measurement error

(D) Systematic measurement error

4. The size of sample for a study mostly depends on

(A) Gravity of the population (B) Geographical area of the study (C) Homogeneity and

heterogeneity of the population (D) Type of population

Answer - (C)

What is Homogeneity? A data set is homogeneous if it is made up of things (i.e. people,

cells or traits) that are similar to each other. For example a data set made up of 20-year-

old college students enrolled in Physics 101 is a homogeneous sample. What is

Homogeneous Sampling? In homogeneous sampling, all the items in the sample are

chosen because they have similar or identical traits. For example, people in a

homogeneous sample might share the same age, location or employment. The selected

traits are ones that are useful to a researcher. It is a type of purposive sampling and is the

opposite of maximum variation sampling. Homogeneous samples tend to be: Small.

Made up of similar cases.

5. Which of the following is the incorrect pair?

(A) Rank correlation – Spearman (B) Product moment correlation –

Pearson (C) Split-half correlation – Kuder Richardson (D) Contingency correlation

– Cramer

Answer - (D)

CONTINGENCY CORRELATION--- contingency table, as in the chi-squared test of

independence, reveals if two sets of data or groups are independent or not. It does not

reveal the strength of the dependence. The contingency coefficient is a non-parametric

measure of the association for cross-classification data.

7. The critical difference between naturalism and pragmatism is in the importance

accorded to

(A) aims (B) methods (C) social context (D) evaluation

Answer - (A) Pragmatism is a philosophical movement that includes those who claim that

an ideology or proposition is true if it works satisfactorily, that the meaning of a

proposition is to be found in the practical consequences of accepting it, and that

unpractical ideas are to be rejected.

Naturalistic observation is a research method commonly used by psychologists and other

social scientists. This technique involves observing subjects in their natural environment.

This type of research is often utilized in situations where conducting lab research is

unrealistic, cost prohibitive or would unduly affect the subject's behavior.

8. The coefficient of correlation lies from

(A) +1 to –1 (B) 0 to –1 (C) –1 to 0 (D) +1 to 0

Answer - (A)

ITS REFER THE DEGREE OF RELATION x & y

9. Which of the following statements is true for the relationship between reliability and

validity of a research tool ?

(A) A reliable test is always valid. (B) A valid test must be reliable. (C) A valid test may not

be reliable. (D) A reliable test is never valid.

Answer - (B)

Validity implies the extent to which the research instrument measures, what it is intended

to measure. Reliability refers to the degree to which scale produces consistent

results, when repeated measurements are made. A reliable instrument need not be a valid

instrument

Repeated measures design uses the same subjects with every branch of research, including

the control. For instance, repeated measurements are collected in a longitudinal study in

which change over time is assessed. Other studies compare the same measure under two

or more different conditions

PART- 3

1. Which of the following is not a common element of a research proposal and a research

report ?

(A) Objectives and hypotheses (B) Implications for further research (C) References to

previous research (D) Sources of information/data

Answer - (B)

2. When a researcher includes in his sample those individuals who are willing and are

readily available, the sampling technique is called

(A) Simple Random Sampling (B) Quota Sampling (C) Snowball Sampling (D) Incidental

Sampling

Answer - (D)

Quto sampling---A sampling method of gathering representative data from a group. As

opposed to random sampling, quota sampling requires that representative individuals are

chosen out of a specific subgroup. For example, a researcher might ask for asample of 100

females, or 100 individuals between the ages of 20-30.

Snowball sampling--In sociology and statistics research, snowball sampling[1] (or chain

sampling, chain-referral sampling, referral sampling[2][3]) is a nonprobability sampling

technique where existing study subjects recruit future subjects from among their

acquaintances. Thus the sample group is said to grow like a rolling snowball. As the sample

builds up, enough data are gathered to be useful for research. This sampling technique is

often used in hidden populations, such as drug users or sex workers, which are difficult for

researchers to access. As sample members are not selected from a sampling frame,

snowball samples are subject to numerous biases. For example, people who have many

friends are more likely to be recruited into the sample. When virtual social networks are

used, then this technique is called virtual snowball sampling

Inciendental samping--Convenience sampling is a type of non-probability sampling that

involves the sample being drawn from that part of the population that is close to hand.

This type of sampling is most useful for pilot testing.

3. A method of sampling that ensures proportional representation of all sections of the

population is termed as

(A) Simple Random Sampling (B) Stratified Sampling (C) Purposive Sampling (D) Systematic

Sampling

(A) Longitudinal studies (B) Social surveys (C) Follow up studies (D) Horizontal Studies

Answer - (C)

Follow up study=Most reported follow up studies based on hospital populations are

descriptive or observational; that is, information is collected on the outcome of cohorts of

children with particular characteristics-for example birthweight groups, infants who were

ventilated, infants with seizures, and so on.

6. In the process of statistical inference, the Type II Error is committed when we

(A) Accept a true null hypothesis (B) Reject a true null hypothesis (C) Reject a false null

hypothesis (D) Accept a false null hypothesis

8. Which of the following is appropriate to test a non-directional hypothesis?

(A) One tailed test (B) Two tailed test (C) Both (A) and (B) (D) None of the above

Answer - (B)

NON DIRECTIONAL HYPOTHESIS==A nondirectional hypothesis is a type of

alternativehypothesis used in statistical significance testing. ... In contrast, a directional

alternative hypothesisspecifies the direction of the tested relationship, stating that one

variable is predicted to be larger or smaller than null value, but not both.
