April 28, 2020 Welcome back to Teaching Tuesday! Great work to everyone who completed last week’s activities! This week, we are focusing on activities that you can complete with the entire family! These activities are designed for students in Grades 1-7. We recognize that not every child will be able to complete all of the activities and that’s okay. We worked hard to include creative ways you can help your child develop their language arts, math, science, and art skills. We hope you and your child enjoy going through these workbooks over the next few months. We are not educational professionals, these activities should not replace course materials you may receive from your child’s teacher(s) but are meant to provide additional material and entertainment for your child. Once you complete an activity, please email it to [email protected] to be entered to win various prizes!

Welcome back to Teaching Tuesday!
Positive or Negative Board Game How to play:
Start by cutting out the game tokens and assigning one to each player. The player whose birthday is closest goes first, then the game continues with players taking their turns in a clockwise circle.
On your turn, roll a die or use a random number generator (Google has one built into the search bar! Just type “generate a random number” and hit enter). Move the number of spaces equivalent to the die face or the number generated. Solve the equation on the space you land on.
If the sum or difference to your equation is a positive number, move forward one space and your turn ends.
If the sum or difference to your equation is a negative number, move backwards two spaces and your turn ends.
If the sum or difference to your equation is zero, do not move any spaces and skip your next turn.
If the sum or difference to your equation is equal to or greater than 10, or equal to or less than -10, move forward two spaces and choose a player to move two spaces backwards.
The player that makes it to the end first wins!
Indoor Skating You will need:
• Sheets of recycled paper (or tin pie pans for carpeted floor)
Procedure:
1. Distribute two pieces of paper to each skater
2. Put each piece of paper on the floor and stand with one foot on top of each sheet,
making sure your feet are firmly anchored on the paper
3. Challenge each other to move around an area designated the “ice-rink” and “skate”
4. Try out some of the following moves:
• Twist: Twist back and forth on the paper.
• Wax on, wax off: Brush one foot in a circle, then the other.
• Scissors: While standing in one place, slide one foot forward and one foot back in
a continuous motion.
• Spin out: Stand in place and spin on one foot.
• Moon walking: Move backwards on the paper without lifting your feet.
• Scooter: Slide on one foot and push with the other.
• Slide step: Slide your right foot first, then your left foot, moving to the right (then
switch directions).
• 180°: Jump in the air, rotate 180° and try to land on the paper.
• 360°: Jump in the air, rotate 360° and try to land on the paper
Nature Walk Scavenger Hunt Print out or re-write this list on to scrap paper and bring it with you on a nature walk in your local neighbourhood. This scavenger hunt can also be done from inside looking out a window! You can choose to keep score of who finds each item or work together to complete the list! Please be sure to follow all local regulations and social distancing protocols. Don’t forget to take nothing but photos and leave nothing but footprints!

Referee Signals Do you know what all the referee hand signals mean? Use the chart below to practice,
and then take turns trying out the signals with a partner! Then, with permission, go to
hockeytv.com and watch a Nanaimo Clipper game from this past season (if you do not
have a subscription you can watch one of the free to view games or look up highlights
on YouTube) and see if you can decode the signals the referees are using!
Cheer Off There’s nothing the Nanaimo Clippers love more than hearing their fans cheering them
on during a game! Practice these cheers and then create your own for when you attend
a game next season. We can’t wait to see and hear you again!
Hockey Charades Print and cut out or write the following words on scrap paper and then place them in a hat or bag. Take turns drawing a word out of the hat and acting it out for a partner or a group to guess. For an added challenge, use a one minute timer and keep score. You can also add in your own words to mix it up!
