What is Persuasive Speech?• Persuasive speeches can be about anything where we try to

persuade the audience to agree with a particular point of view over a topic. Persuasive speeches deal with controversial topics that touch on listeners’ most basic attitudes, values, and beliefs.

• Plus, persuasion is the process of changing/influencing people’s believes, attitudes and decisions.

• Some examples of persuasive speech topics include:

• 1. Are beauty contests harmful?

• 2. Is physical force a justifiable method of punishing children? 3.Does television have a negative influence on society?

• 4.Should capital punishment be abolished?

• 5. Environment can be sacrificed for economy.

Persuasive Speeches: a mental dialogue

• Ali: The government needs to put an end to celebrity shows of Bollywood performers here at Dhaka. This is certainly a threat to the sanity of our culture.

• B: Yes, I do agree that concerts of Bollywood superstars are causing cultural nuisance here but government censorship is actually against the freedom of thought. Everybody has right to define what is good or bad. So, instead of government censorship, helping people form love for our own culture is a better solution.

Environment can be sacrificed for economy.

• Cement industry has some negative effects on our environment. However, for some absolute reasons we can not ignore the economic benefits that these provide. Employment

• Population is increasing but food is not. How can we feed? Insecticides needed

• Current global economic condition- Later we will invest on environment

• Long term effect is very serious--- example from Doi Moi project of Vietnam and Japan

• Financial compensations is actually taking too much money

• Burning example is severe pollution of Buriganga river which is now beyond any cure

• Examples from India- Tata company removed their factory from west Bengal
