•Pause at each bolded word. Choose a child to pull a strip and tape it to the paper.

Jesus Read a ScrollBased on Luke 4:16-22

Jesus traveled to Nazareth, where He lived when He was a boy. Jesus went to the synagogue (1) and stood up to read (2). Jesus was given the scroll (3) of Isaiah the prophet to read. Jesus unrolled the scroll and read the Scriptures:

"God chose Me to preach the good news to the poor (4). God sent Me to give freedom to those who are not free (5), to give sight to those who are blind (6), to give freedom to those who are being mistreated (7), and to proclaim (8) or tell that God's kindness has come."

Jesus rolled up the scroll, gave it to the synagogue helper, and sat down. Everyone watched Jesus. Jesus told the people that the words of the Scripture had been fulfilled (9), or carried out.

The people said nice things about Jesus. They were amazed by the good things He said. But the people did not believe what Jesus said about Himself because they knew Him only as the son of Joseph (10), the carpenter.
