World Day of Prayer World Day of Prayer will be observed on Sunday, May 7th, also known as "Good

Shepherd Sunday." Please pray that young men and women hear and respond generously to the Lord's call to the priesthood, diaconate, religious life, so-cieties of apostolic life or secular institutes. You can find many resources to promote a culture of vocations on the USCCB Voca-tions webpage (www.usccb.org/vocations)The purpose of the World Day of Prayer for Vocations is to publically fulfill the Lord's instruction to, "Pray the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into his harvest" (Mt 9:38; Lk 10:2). As a climax to a prayer that is con-tinually offered throughout the Church, it affirms the primacy of faith and grace in all that concerns vocations to the priesthood and to the consecrated life. While appreci-ating all vocations, the Church concentrates its attention this day on vocations to the ordained ministries (priesthood and dia-conate), to the Religious life in all its forms (male and female, contemplative and apos-tolic), to societies of apostolic life, to secular institutes in their diversity of services and membership, and to the missionary life, in the particular sense of mission "ad gentes".

Eyes Wide Open

In today’s Gospel, Cleopas and another disciple—perhaps a friend, or even his wife—were joined on the way to Emmaus by a stranger who asked about their conversation. Listening intently to their story of Jesus’ death and resurrection, he explained it in the context of the Jewish scriptures. The two were too blinded by grief to realize who the stranger was. In Emmaus they persuaded him stay for dinner. When Jesus broke the bread and gave thanks “their eyes were opened” and they recognized their guest (Luke 24:31). They were awakened to the whole new reality of God’s grace falling on them at the dinner table or hurrying down the road. God’s grace falls on us, smack dab in the ordinary moments, in the checkout line, at a sick relative’s bedside, during phone calls and driv-ing the car to pick up the kids. The Emmaus story says that God is alive, right now. Wake up and see!

Message from the Rector:Dear Friends,Last week we had our Latino Street Fest. As many of you commented to me, it was a great success! It was a true celebration of faith and culture. We had many civic and ecclesiastical leaders present, including our own Bishop Edward Burns who mixed in with the crowd and enjoyed fellowship. We certainly are at our best when we pray and play together. I would like to thank all of our staff and volunteers who worked so hard to make this event possible. As you can imagine, putting on an event of this magnitude requires a lot of hard work and sacrifice. The generosity of our staff and volunteers is legend-ary and it was on full display at the Latino Street Fest. I also want to continue to thank all of you for your pa-tience during our Cathedral restoration and renovation. As you already have experienced, restoration work will mean some disruption in our regular schedule. Thus, Mass during the weekdays will be held in the grand sa-lon. The sacrament of Reconciliation will be held only on Saturdays from four to eight o’clock. Once the in-terior scaffolding in the Church is removed we will re-sume Confessions as usual during the week. We are also going to take advantage of the summer months of June through the middle of August to do some house-keeping in the religious education building and in the basement of the Church. Therefore, we are suspend-ing all group meetings from June to August 15, 2017. Moreover, we are postponing our annual rummage sale to later in the summer. Thank you for your un-derstanding. I will keep you updated with any fur-ther relevant information as it is made known to me. Finally, congratulations are in order to the 210 young people who received their First Communion this past weekend. As Catholics, our First Communion is among the most memorable moments of our life as it is when we receive the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus Christ! God nourishes us as with his very substance and gives us strength for the journey when we receive Holy Communion. Mensaje del Rector: Amigos,La semana pasada tuvimos nuestro Festival Latino. ¡Como muchos me comentaron, fue un gran éxito! Realmente fue un celebración de nuestra fe y de nuestra cultura. Estuvieron presentes lideres comunitarios al igual que lideres eclesiás-ticos, incluyendo nuestro obispo Edward Burns que estuvo entre la gente gozando del convivio. Ciertamente damos lo mejor de nosotros mismos cuando oramos y gozamos jun-tos. Quiero agradecer a todo el equipo pastoral y a todos nuestros voluntarios que colaboraron en hacer este evento posible. Como se pueden imaginar, un evento de esta magni-tud requiere mucho trabajo y sacrificio. La generosidad de nuestro equipo pastoral y de nuestros voluntarios siempre es notable y ciertamente fue percibida en el Festival Latino. También quiero agradecerles a todos ustedes por su pa-ciencia durante la renovación y restauración de nuestra Catedral. Como ya han experimentado, la labor de la res-tauración incluye algunas interrupciones en nuestros ho-rarios normales. Por eso, la Misa durante la semana será celebrada en el gran salón. El Sacramento de Reconcilia-ción se llevara a cabo solamente los sábados de 4:00 pm a 8:00 pm. Cuando se termine el trabajo interior con el andamio reanudaremos las Confesiones como de costum-bre durante la semana. Al igual, estaremos aprovechan-do los meses de verano para realizar limpieza general y principalmente en el edificio de Educación Religiosa y en el sótano. Por tal motivo, suspenderemos todas juntas de grupos iniciando en junio hasta mediados del mes de agos-to. Al igual, se pospondrá nuestra venta de bazar hasta el final del verano. Gracias por su comprensión. Les man-tendré informados con cualquier información relevante. Finalmente, felicidades a los 210 jóvenes que recibieron su Primera Comunión este fin de semana. ¡Como Cató-licos, nuestra Primera Comunión es uno de los momen-tos mas importantes y memorables en nuestras vidas ya que es el momento en que recibimos el Cuerpo, Sangre, Alma, Divinidad de Jesucristo! Dios nos nutre con su pro-pia substancia y nos da la fuerza para la jornada cuando recibimos la Sagrada Comunión. ¡Que este privilegiado, incomparable y intimo encuentro con el Señor sea el pri-mero de muchos para nuestros jóvenes durante sus vidas! Con Los Ojos Bien Abiertos En el Evangelio de hoy Cleofás y otro discípulo, tal vez un amigo o aún la esposa, se dirigían hacia Emaús cuando un extraño se les une en el camino y les pregunta de qué hablan. Se puso a escuchar atentamente la historia de la muerte y resurrec-ción de Jesús que los dos contaban y se las expli-có en el contexto de las escrituras judías. Los dos discípulos estaban demasiado cegados por el dolor para darse cuenta de quién era el extraño que ca-minaba con ellos. Al llegar a Emaús le pidieron que se quedara a comer. Cuando Jesús partió el pan y dio gracias “se les abrieron los ojos” y reconocie-ron a su invitado (Lucas 24:31). Despertaron a una nueva realidad por la gracia de Dios que se derra-maba en ellos mientras estaban sentados a la mesa o aun cuando se apuraban por el camino. La gracia de Dios llega a nosotros en el mismo medio de los momentos ordinarios, en la línea de espera para pagar, junto a la cama de un familiar enfermo, du-rante llamadas telefónicas o mientras manejamos para ir a recoger a los niños. .Información Sobre Bautismos

Para Niños Menores de 7 Años de EdadLas próximas clases pre-Bautismales en Español se lleva-ran a cabo el 4 y 18 de mayo a las 6:30 pm. Pueden tomar las clases antes de que nazca su bebe. Las próximas fechas de Bautismos son el el 13 y 27 de mayo. Requisitos Bá-sicos: Uno de los padres puede registrarse en persona en la oficina principal; traiga la acta de nacimiento original, presente documentación sacramental de los padrinos. Los papas y padrinos necesitan asistir a una clase pre-Bautis-mal. Los padrinos deben ser (1) plenamente iniciados a la Iglesia Católica con el Bautismo, Primera Comunión y Confirmación. (2) deben tener al menos 16 años de edad, (3) deben estar practicando la fe, y (4) si casados, tienen que estar cazados por la Iglesia. No es necesario estar re-gistrado como parroquiano en Catedral, pero los invitamos a ser miembros y a participar en la vida de la Iglesia en Catedral. Ministerio ShalomEl ministerio Shalom es un ministerio de ayuda para per-sonas que están dispuestas a parar sus adicciones al al-cohol y las drogas pero sobre todo a recuperar una vida sana y feliz. Ofrecemos un espacio fraterno, serio y con-fidencial; damos la oportunidad de descubrir el por que de nuestra enfermedad: resentimiento, odio, ira, intole-rancia, amargura, depresión o tristeza; damos apoyo, re-cuperación y sanación a la persona adicta y sus familia-res y amigos que lo necesiten. Las reuniones se llevan a cabo los primeros cuatro domingos del mes a las 3:00 pm.

Yeshua Grupo de Jóvenes Adultos

Si usted es un joven adulto entre 18 y 32 años de edad, soltero, y sin compromisos los invitamos a nuestro grupo de jóvenes adultos. Las reuniones se llevan a cabo cada domingo en el salón de conferen-cias en seguida de las oficinas principales de 5:00 pm a 6:30 pm. Inmediatamente después de nuestra reunión participamos en la Misa de 7:00 pm. Todos son invitados a participar como lectores, acomoda-dores, servidores del altar o Ministros Extraordina-rios de la Comunión. También somos responsables por la Hora Santa cada primer lunes del mes a las 7:30 pm donde tenemos la oportunidad de estar un tiempo con Jesús, donde podemos hablar con El desde lo mas profundo de nuestros corazones.
