Mendenhall was 17-of-23 for 297 yards and also added 43 yards rushing. His six touchdowns moved him into first in NCAA Division II among active players for career points responsible for. DEFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK Mike Carey Jr., DB, 5-10, 165 Norfolk, Va./Booker T. Washington Carey, a junior defensive back out of Norfolk, Va., turned in his best performance as a Mountain Lion with two interceptions and six tackles in a 34-17 win over Fairmont State. UVa-Wise’s struggles can be linked primarily to its inability to hold on to the ball ... the Cavs are -21 in turnover margin ... UVa-Wise turned the ball over five times last week to Notre Dame ... UVa-Wise had a superior effort from James Long in the loss with 16 catches, 268 yards and four touchdowns. • Glenville State (2-3, 2-2 MEC) at Charleston (2-3, 2-1 MEC): Both teams will try to keep their Mountain East Confer-ence title hopes alive on Saturday ... Charleston is averaging more rushing yards (150) than passing yards (111) this season ... the GSC secondary has been stingy, though, coming up with nine interceptions this season. • Concord (4-1, 3-0 MEC) at Urbana (3-2, 3-1 MEC): An-other game with serious MEC and postseason implications puts one of the league’s top defenses in Concord against one of the top offenses in Urbana ... Concord’s Cal Jones has had over 100 yards rushing in each of the last two games, including a 200-yard effort last week against Fairmont State ... CU quarterback Brian Novak has thrown a league-high nine interceptions this season ... Concord is giving up a league-low 103 yards per game in the air, while Urbana rides the arm of D.J. Mendenhall who paces the Blue Knight attack with over 340 yards per game ... Mendenhall tossed six TD passes last week in just over a half of action against WV State ... Urbana has yet to make a field goal this year and converted a league-low .722 PAT kicking this year ... WVSU’s losing streak stands at 11 games dating back to last season ... Bobcat quarterback Jeremy Musselman is second in the MEC with 309 yards per game ... wide receiver/return man LaVaughn Hughes turned in a big game with over 200 yards receiving last week against Glenville State.Notre Dame College (3-2, 2-2) vs. Lake Erie (1-4): NDC will take on in-state rival Lake Erie in Painesville this Saturday ... the Falcon offense is racking up 36.2 points per game ... NDC has one of the top passers (Ray Russ, 280 ypg), rushers (Pedro Pow-ell, 161.4 ypg) and receivers Jack Foy (50 rec.) ... the NDC de-fense, however, is still trying to find its way giving up 32.8 points per contest ... Lake Erie’s defense is surrendering 44.4 points per game ... the lowest total LEC has given up was 36 against Gannon ... three of the Storm’s four losses have come by 10 points or less.West Liberty (2-3, 2-1) at Fairmont State (2-3, 1-3): Two offenses still trying to find their way meet up in Fairmont at Du-vall-Rosier Field ... WLU has scored just four touchdowns on the year, and last week, the offense spotted the opposition 21 points directly off turnovers ... the ‘Toppers started with Tyler Tucci last week before giving way to Dylan LaGarde after the first quarter ... the ‘Topper defense has been stout, though, still ranking in the top 10 in the country at just 14 points per game ... the Falcon offense has been hit-or-miss, scoring 93 points in two wins but just 38 total in three losses ... Falcon quaretrback Cooper Hibbs is completing just 46 percent of his passses ... LB Garrett Davis is among the league leaders in tackles for a loss with 11.5 on the year ... Fairmont State has won each of the last two meetings against West Liberty.
• Five Mountain East Conference games are slated for this week-end. • Notre Dame College will be the lone squad stepping out of con-ference with a matchup at Lake Erie College. • Shepherd remained at 12th in the AFCA poll. The Rams are 13th in the D2football.com poll.• In addition to earning Mountain East Conference weekly hon-ors, defensive back Mike Carey was also recognized by Beyond-SportsNetwork as a Defensive Player of the Week.• Urbana exploded for a conference-best 62 points last week against WV State, faring only slightly better than Notre Dame Col-lege who put up 59 against UVa-Wise.• Two teams, UVa-Wise and WV Wesleyan, scored at least 30 points but still lost.• Although the final showed 27-14, the West Liberty defense only surrendered seven points to the Dukes. WLU had two intercep-tions returned for a touchdown and one fumble recovered in the end zone to account for 21 points for Duquesne.• Urbana’s D.J. Mendenhall is tied for the lead among active play-ers in touchdowns responsible for with 113.• Notre Dame College’s Pedro Powell has rushed for 200+ yards in each of the last two weeks. He owns two of the three 200-yard rushing game in the MEC this season. He leads NCAA Division II among active players in carries per game with 22.70. He has over 4,000 yards rushing for his career.• UVa-Wise’s James Long’s 268 yards receiving are the second-most in a single game in NCAA Division II this season. He caught 16 of his team’s 19 passes, four for touchdowns, last week against Notre Dame. • The Mountain East has the top-rated rushing defense in all of NCAA Division II in Shepherd (39.6 ypg), and the top-ranked passing defense in Concord (103.2).• West Liberty joins Concord and Shepherd in the NCAA top 10 in scoring defense. Shepherd is ranked second (9.4 ppg), Concord is fourth (9.8 ppg) and the ‘Toppers are seventh (14.0 ppg).• MEC teams are 17-6 at home this season. Mountain East Confer-ence teams went 4-1 last week inside their own stadiums.

Offense: Calvinaugh Jones (Concord) rushed for 209 yards and two touchdowns against Fairmont State ... Pedro Powell (Notre Dame) notched his second-straight 200-yard rushing game with 214 yards and three scores against UVa-Wise ... James Long (UVa-Wise) was credited with 16 of his team’s 19 receptions for 268 yards and four touchdowns ... he finished the day with 380 all-purpose yards ... Allen Cross (Shepherd) had 156 yards rush-ing ... LaVaughn Hughes (WV Wesleyan) had 230 yards receiving with three touchdowns ... Dylan Potts (West Liberty) had eight catches for 94 yards and two scores vs. Duquesne.Defense: Andrew Faraimo (West Liberty) had a game-high 10 tackles, including one for a loss, as the ‘Toppers gave up just one touchdown to the Duquesne offense ... Darren Elliott (Glenville State) had nine tackles and broke up six passes against WV Wes-leyan ... De’Ontre Johnson (Shepherd) had eight tackles and a sack against UC ...
