Week 3, Term 3 27/07/2021 Hi Everyone, It looks like some warmer weather is just around the corner which will be very welcome! I realise that there are some coughs and colds doing the rounds at the moment and appreciate you taking the time to text or ring the school to let us know about any student absences. Annie We were so pleased to be able to take all of our students to the musical production of “Annie” on Friday at the Rockhampton Girls Grammar School. Every student behaved perfectly and seemed to absolutely love the production. It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to see other children performing and hopefully it will inspire them as they go into their Arts unit of Drama this term with Mrs Easey. Many thanks to the Rockhampton Girls Grammar School for offering us this free opportunity and even lending us their bus. It was very much appreciated! Centenary Meeting We had a very successful Centenary meeting on Saturday with our best ever attendance. With only two months until the big day, there will be lots of little improvements being made to ensure our school looks its very best. The mulch, soil and plants are ordered for the working bee which is to be held on Saturday, 21 st August, 8.30-12pm and the sprinkler systems are being revitalised by our wonderful grounds officer, Mr Janke. The next Centenary meeting will be held on Saturday, 14 th August at 11am. It would be great to have as many P & C members at this meeting as possible as we will be discussing the catering in more detail. Our Centenary books are disappearing very quickly with only eighteen left of this current order. We have ordered fifty more books but I would encourage you to drop into the office between the hours of 2pm-4pm to purchase one soon, so that you don’t miss out! Good Quick Tukka The sessions of Good Quick Tukka continue on Monday mornings from 12.30-1.30. This week the students made healthy wraps which included ham, cheese, cucumber, carrot and tomato. They all seemed to be enjoying themselves while learning about healthy choices for a healthy future.

Spinal Awareness Talks Every week, around two Queenslanders will sustain a life-changing traumatic Spinal Cord Injury, with 80% of those injuries experienced by people aged 25 and under. Such an injury profoundly impacts every facet of life, from the physical to the mental, emotional, social, and financial. Next week we welcome the Spinal Education Awareness Team to educate and support young people to make safe and positive choices for life. In a one-hour session they’ll cover topics such as: -Road and water safety -Dealing with peer pressure -Making positive lifestyle choices -Disability awareness The program aligns with the national curriculum, is offered at no cost to schools and is delivered by local community presenters with a spinal cord injury. Our presenter will be Sandi Small and this talk will be in the library on Wednesday 4th of August 2021 at 2:00pm. Parents are welcome to attend.

Have a great week.

The best place to live is Yeppoon Firstly, Yeppoon is an amazing place to live. The air at the cold, beautiful beach is to die for because as you softly, calmly breathe in, it is like a powerful vibe swirling in your body. It has been proven that the breezy Yeppoon is an amazing place that is worth living at because there is a hospital only a few minutes away from your home when you need it and it’s open 24/7. So you can see that it is worth coming to smell the fresh air and it’s good for your life benefits. Secondly, another place to visit would be their local delicious, crunchy ice-cream shop that is stuffed right to the top with good, delicious flavoured smoothies, ice-creams and drinks that will make your taste buds go Wow! There are millions of flavours to choose from. One of my favourites is sticky, porous, caramel chunks. Smoothies are still good but everyone knows that ice-cream is smooth, silky and way more delicious. Thirdly, another crazy feature of Yeppoon is the 5 star best restaurants. I’ve only been to one but that one restaurant has free ice-cream, a big kids playing area and inspiring, tasty food. It is just on the corner of the round about near the lagoon. Besides that restaurant there is also the sea-breeze servo that sells chips, salad and fish and local food. Like no other fish and chips shop, it also sells roast chicken - roasted in a warm, solid heater with all of the other scrumptious hot foods. Water parks – everyone loves water parks! There is summer time fun for all the fun-time crazy cool kids. There is the Kraken and The Lagoon. They are always busy at night and morning but in the summer that’s when all the children come from small to big. They are all burning what is like their big engines of fuel I hope you now know to definitely visit the exciting water parks! Naturally I feel that being able to wake up in the morning and smell the fresh, calming ocean air would be the best. I will pop up out of bed and run on what would feel like silky, warm sand. After jumping in to the natural ocean water you won’t even have to worry about the super expensive water bills because you have the ocean right next to your house. Now you must agree with me that Yeppoon is the best, most fun place to live.

Dear parent,

Head lice have been detected in the school. The parents of all students are being notified via this letter.

It is extremely important for you to check your child’s head for head lice TODAY.

If you do find head lice, commence treatment immediately and be sure to complete the process of

treatment. This will help prevent head lice from spreading.

Remember to keep checking your family member’s heads every 2 days until there are no head lice

found for 10 consecutive days.

For further information regarding treating head lice, refer to the Department of Health’s Head Lice fact

sheet available at <http://access.health.qld.gov.au/hid/InfectionsandParasites/Parasites/headLice_fs.asp >.

Your local pharmacist can provide advice regarding head lice treatment options and head lice combs.

Because head lice need close head-to-head contact to spread from one person to another, to reduce the

spread of head lice, teachers will discourage students from activities which may involve head to head

contact.

To reduce your child’s risk of getting head lice, make sure that long hair is tied up and discourage children from sharing their brushes and combs and having head to head contact with others.

Remember - Anyone can get head lice – they have no preferences for cleanliness, hair colour, hair type, ethnicity or age.

If for any reason you are having difficulties treating the head lice on your child effectively, please contact

the school.

Yours sincerely,

Elizabeth Jacobson
