WEEK 3 -JOURNAL

SCRIPTING CULTURE

Page 2: week 3 journal

Scripting is not new to designers, it is always part of the design, however it is just recently been regarded as an integral rather than a specific techniques. By scripting, computer programming becomes integral to the digital design process. It enable the opportunities for designers to blaze new trails, it pro-vides an opportunity for designers to customize their software around their individual preference and experience. In other words, by scripting the com-puter programmes, the user actually become a new software maker.Scripting makes the design process more sufficient and reasonable, mean-while the whole design process is hastened, and it will bring more economic benefit to us. It also frees the designer from the software, so designers can spend more time on design thinking.Digital fabrication technologies also take advantages from scripting.

Discourse: A significantly deeper engagement between the computer and user by automating routine aspects and repetitive activities, thus facilitat-ing a far greater range of potential outcomes for the same investment in time. -Scripting Cultures, BurryScripting can also be the antidote to standardisation forced by an ambi-tion to lower production costs, rather than any more sophisticated mo-tivation: the previously elusive opportunities for multiple versioning and bespoke production can now be considered more seriously through the use of scripting. -Scripting Cultures, Burry

This is Walt Disney Concert Hall, it is designed by Frank O. Gehry & Partners. It located on a historically and culturally prominent downtown site. The Con-cert Hall is situated on historic Bunker Hill at the intersection of First Street and Grand Avenue, adjacent to the existing Music Center of Los Angeles. The form of the building fits its function as both a concert hall and a monument to the Bunker Hill area ‘s status as a civic center. Its innovative , futuristic form is well-suited to the city ‘s postmodern landscape. It has a steel-clad exterior with an undulating, abstract shape, using its unique artistic expression. It is also one of the most acoustically sophisticated concert halls in the world. And the hall is destined to be a new landmark over Los Angeles. The entire building However, no matter what software is used, this complex form could not be easily made without scripting.

Gate Project :The idea of this building can be used on the Gate Project as well. The form of the Gate Project can fits its function and also as a monument to Wer-ribee. The form of the “Gate” can provide strong visual impact, which can be the new landmark of Werribee.
