Principal’s News
From the Deputy’s Desk
Our new Oval Nature Play space is taking shape. Thank you to Janet Edwards, Chivonne Anderson and Olivia Colliver for offering and/or donating paddock rocks for the sandpit construction. A huge thank you to Simon from Climbing Tree Consultancy and Matt and Jed from Escape Creations (who have been working tirelessly in the heat this week!) for designing and constructing the play space. Work is due for completion in Week 2 of Term 2. Margaret
This week we have Parent/Teacher interviews across the school with full written reports also for year 7 to 12 students. R to 6 interviews provide information to parents on how their child has settled into the school year and the progress they are making in relation to the achievement standards. Students in these year levels will be provided with opportunities to set goals based on the feedback they receive. The timing of the year 7 to 12 written reports and the accompanying interview opportunity is to provide students in these year levels with comprehensive information at the mid semester point enabling them time to respond to feedback and improve their learning outcomes and achievements before the completion of semester one. If you have been unable to attend an interview this week, please feel contact the school to arrange a meeting or a phone conversation with your child’s teacher/s. In recent weeks we have had a number of students coming to the Front Office wanting to sign out to attend appointments or go home due to illness stating they have texted or called a parent to arrange this. We have also had parents calling the school stating they have text or called their child to come to the Front Office to be picked up early. I remind parents and carers that communication should come through the Front Office. Front Office staff will then inform students or parents and teachers of any arrangements requiring students to leave school early. Students should not be receiving or send texts or receiving or making calls during the school day. Similarly, we ask parents of bus students to please contact the school if their child will not be on the bus. Again, Front Office staff will communicate this information to the appropriate bus driver. Staff and community members have reported their concern at the number of students crossing Second Street without using the crossing. Similarly, students are riding their bikes through the intersection of Second Street and West Terrace without adequately checking for oncoming cars. The crossing on Second Street should be used by students to cross this road rather than walking across at other locations on the street or riding through the afore mentioned intersection. Congratulations to our Primary Festival Choir students, Mrs Schwartz, Mrs Brooks and Mr Jonn Gorden on their A grade assessment. This is an outstanding achievement made even more impressive considering this year's assessment was 3 weeks earlier than usual. Further congratulations to our Primary and Secondary athletes for their efforts at the Combined Southern Yorke Sports Day last Thursday and the SSSSA Championships held this Tuesday at SA Athletics Stadium. Keep an eye on our Facebook page to see our student results. This Friday is the last day of term 1. Students will be dismissed at 2pm following a whole school assembly. I wish all of our students and staff a safe and happy 2 week break. Karen Bond

Ardrossan Area School Sports Day On March the 8th the school participated in Long Run for Sports Day. It was a good morning with lots of students participating and even some teachers! There was a record broken by Matilda Teakle for U10 Girls Long Run.
On the 16th of March Ardrossan Area School held its annual Sports Day at the Ardrossan Football Oval. It was great weather to start off with but got a bit wet and windy just in time for the team events in the afternoon. The day was very successful with ten different records broken across seven different sports. For this article, we interviewed almost all the Receptions and enjoyed listening to their answers about their first Sports Day at AAS. All the Receptions were excited and indicated they had been practicing different events in preparation for Sports Day. When interviewed everyone loved long run except for Crowley who unfortunately tripped over at the beginning of the race. The receptions enjoyed practicing running, football kick, T-ball, throwing balls, throwing bean bags, long run and long jump. Sports Day demonstrated the rivalry between Yorke and Vincent but there could only be one winner. By the end Vincent got over the line to win for the 5th time in a row. We spoke to the House Captains after Sports Day. Bianca Holdsworth, Yorke House Captain said “There was great, friendly competition between Yorke and Vincent, we’ll beat Vincent next year. Go Yorke!” and Corey Masters Vincent House Captain said “Sports Day was an exciting day that ran smoothly with lots of competition”

SYP Basketball Carnival On the 10
th of March, Angus Clifford, Jack Crowell, Tyson Crowell, Jay
During, Aiden Erfurth, Thomas Williams and I participated in the SYP Basketball Carnival. The carnival was held in Adelaide and played at a number of stadiums. The teams were U12s, U14s and U16s. In the U12s team they had a really close game against Barossa Valley but just went down in the end by 8 points. My team, the U14s won 3/5 games and qualified for the grand final but unfortunately we lost. In the U16s team they won every game and got into the finals but lost in the knock out round. Overall the carnival was an enjoyable and fun experience for all participants. Ebony Wheare
New Staff
To commence the 2018 school year Ardrossan Area School welcomed four new teachers: Mrs Kimberley Black R/1 class, Mr Andrew Mills 5/6 class, Ms Lorraine Diaz 7-10 English and Mr Greg Witcomb 8-12 Mathematics. I briefly interviewed each of the four new staff members to learn more about them and their personal interests. Mrs Kimberley Black’s favourite lesson to teach is English, dogs are her favourite type of animal and in her spare time she enjoys watching AFL football. Mr Andrew Mills is a keen AFL enthusiast who enjoys teaching physical education. Ms Lorraine Diaz favourite breed of dog is the Pug (she even owns one), she loves reading books and one of her recent favourites is The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. In his spare time Mr Greg Witcomb enjoys taking long walks. If he could go anywhere in the world he would travel to Germany. By Olivia Ephgrave
