wellbeing tipsBeing an assertive communicator means expressing your point of view in a clear, direct and respectful manner. This is an important tool, helping you strengthen relationships, minimise conflict and help to control your anger. The key is to be assertive and not agressive.

Tips to practice assertiveness:

• State your point of view or request clearly• Consider tone and volume of voice - how you say it is as important as what you say• Avoid exagerating your statements with words like ‘you always do this’ or ‘you never..’• Speak with facts and not judgements.

Principal's ReportIt has been a very busy year and an especially busy Term 4 at Tamworth High School and we are all ready for a well-earned summer break. The Year 7 2019 Orientation Day held recently was a terrific event that for all concerned with visiting students appearing to enjoy themselves and parents indicating that they were very satisfied with the day with its new shortened format. I need to thank Amanda Brown, Megan Marshall, Belinda Gleeson-Barker and the staff who assisted either directly or indirectly to make this event a fantastic success - thanks to everyone concerned! Similarly, the Term 4 Gold Awards was another very enjoyable event. Last Tuesday night the Annual Presentation Evening was held in the THS Concert Hall and was another well received event, with a large number of parents and guests present to see our high achievers recognised. I also want to thank our Hospitality Team for the catering after the event - very well received by all! A few weeks back, the Tamworth Girls Academy held their awards evening for a very appreciative audience of students, parents and community Elders. I want to thank our Girls Academy Project Leader, Leica LeBrocq for her leadership of her committed team who had a great second year of operation and congratulate all the awardees.

As noted at Presentation Evening, we have several staff who are moving on from Tamworth High School at the end of this year which is a normal part of school life. On behalf of the students, parents and wider community, I thank these staff members for their dedication and service to our school and wish them well for their future. We will be welcoming several new staff to THS in the new school year. The school magazine (The Koala 2018) has been released, I want to thank everyone who contributed to this year’s edition, but especially thank our publishers, Chelsea Roulstone and Belinda Gleeson-Barker, who have done an outstanding job in taking on the task of collecting the material and assembling a wonderful 2018 edition of the KOALA. Editions can be purchased from the front office for $25.00. As noted on the calendar in this edition of The Buzz, Years7,11 and 12 students will return to school on Wednesday 30 January 2019, while all other students will commence on Thursday 31 January 2019. I wish everyone a happy and safe holiday break and I look forward to working with you in the new school year.

Year 12 2018FundraisingOn Wednesday 12 December 2018, the final gift from the Year 12 Students of 2018 was delivered to ‘Heaven Can Wait’ Animal Shelter. The students, through their fundraising had managed to raise $900.00 for food, treatments and other gifts to present to the shelter. They were greatly appreciative of the kind gifts especially this close to Christmas as a lot of pets as ‘gifts’ unfortunately make their way to the shelter. This was a great initiative by Year 12, and followed along with their school motto ‘In our school community we strive for unity’. A great bunch of students who had a strong community and charity emphasise. Well Done!
