What is a Digital Camera?What is a Digital Camera?

• A digital camera is a camera that takes video or still photographs digitally by recording images via an electronic image sensor.

• Many compact digital still cameras can record sound and moving video as well as still photographs.

How does the camera store How does the camera store pictures?pictures?

• A digital camera contains a memory card.

• When you take a picture on your camera it will be stored on the memory card.

• Memory cards are available in different sizes.

• The bigger the memory card, the more pictures you can store.

Connecting your cameraConnecting your camera

• To connect your camera to your computer you need a USB lead.

• Put the USB lead into the camera and then put the other end into the USB port on the computer

I have no USB lead!I have no USB lead!• Many people loose their USB leads and think their

camera becomes obsolete.

• This is not the case, we can then use a memory card reader to connect to the computer.

• You place the memory card from the camera into the reader and then plug this into the USB port on the computer.

• To find your images on the computer select my computer

• Your camera will appear as a “Removable Storage Device” or the name of your camera.

• Double click on this and you will see all your pictures.

Transferring the imagesTransferring the images• Select the pictures you want to copy to your computer

• To make multiple selection hold down the shift key and click on each photograph

• Then go to the edit menu and select copy

• Go to the N drive and double click on “my pictures” folder.

• Go to the edit menu and select paste

• All your pictures will now appear in this folder.

Viewing the imagesViewing the images• Locate your “My pictures” folder.

• Find your pictures

• Double click on one of the pictures

• Windows picture viewer will open. This is the default picture viewer on Windows computers.

• Scroll through the pictures

your pictures.

• A toolbar is available which consists of the following tools:

• Open the picture you wish to print

• Click on the print icon on the toolbar

• Follow the on screen instructions
