Year 5 Home Learning Pack – Week 1, Term 3 Activities that are highlighted need to be electronically submitted to your teacher via TEAMS or Seesaw daily. Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Morning 9-11am Literacy Spelling Create a word list using 20 of the Premier’s Spelling Bee words (Blue – L5, Green – L4, Yellow – L3, Magenta/Red - L2). Write out your spelling words for the week (LSCWC). For any of the words you don’t know the meaning of (or choose 5 that you are interested in), use a dictionary to write the meaning, or use https://www.oxfordlearnersdicti onaries.com/ Reading: Read for 15-20 minutes. Choose a section of the story and re-write it as a script for a play. Remember to set it out correctly with the names of the characters and the lines they say. Writing: (Creative Writing Ppt) Work through the Character Development slide. Remember, you are writing as the lady in the picture. Literacy Spelling LSCWC your list for today. Look at the etymology of the word “norm”. Write out the origin and the meaning. Challenge yourself to come up with as many words using the etymology word as you can. e.g. Root Word/Etymology Word: Origin: Meaning: Word Building: Reading: Read for 15-20 minutes. Write a poem describing a setting or a character in your book. Writing: (Creative Writing Ppt) Work through The Island of Lights slide. Use literary devices, such as; metaphors and similes to enhance your description. Literacy Spelling LSCWC your list for today, using neat, cursive writing. Reading: With parent/carer guidance, look at some headlines in a magazine, newspaper or article (these can also be found online). Respond: What is the purpose of headlines? Discuss with someone what you think the purpose of headlines and titles are. Where do you see these? Are they only used in written, informative pieces? Create a series of headlines using 5 words, then 4 words, 3 words, 2 words and finally one word only, to announce 5 different things you have done during the holidays. Challenge: try and find some examples of funny or clever headlines. Writing: (Creative Writing Ppt) Work through Descriptive Writing slide. Be as descriptive as possible in your note taking. Literacy Spelling Ask a parent or sibling to give you a test on your spelling words. Reading: Write a review of a book you have been reading this week. Include both positive and negative points and a star rating out of 5, explaining why you gave it this score. Writing: (Creative Writing Ppt) Work through the Predict What Happens Next slide AND the last slide today. Finish the story about Laura’s hiking trip. For the last slide think of interesting character names or titles. Draw a picture of your favourite.
