How it started
HOW ITS STARTSThe Medical field has been around for hundreds of years and can has advanced greatly over that time. Medical field was more like a trade in the infancy of doctors and hospitals. More to say, that doctors back then would go to the battle fields or home visits. There wasn’t much to being a doctor only the knowledge of basic first aid was needed.
The Americans in this early time still wanted more of a private healthcare system and the government was giving them a socialistic type of programs that mimicked the European healthcare standards. IN 1870 training was an apprenticeship with a practicing doctor. This requires at least two years of dedication. Even the Clergy would be considered as active medical providers and this was considered a church responsibility to the community. The healthcare that they
provide wasn’t always the most sanitary. Many forms of healthcare was dirty and had been used minutes before another patient would be
placed on at table only water would have been used to wash the areas. The mostly occurred during raids or wars.
HEALTHCARE
Changes in the Medical Field
Everything changed n the post-industrial period, doctors were now called Physicians and was leading the way to a more organized medical
profession with the American Medical Association (AMA). The doctors and medical professional demanded that hospitals make centers that taught high-technology classes so that new
doctors could be more advanced in the medical assessments and change that was on the way. Changes like health insurance as payment for
services of medical care.
Advancement in the Medical Field
The advancement of medical knowledge and skill caused America to see that they couldn’t keep up with the advancement of the apprenticeship model
they had to change the program, so Harvard University changed AMA and increased the
academic year from 4 months to 8 months. Made the Doctors of medicine program three (3) years.
Then required care science classed to be a part on the program. This was the first time that science
and medicine was combined together.
John’s Hopkins University
In 1893, John’s Hopkins University moved forward the training of the medical classes
one step further by creating a graduate program that models that are still used
today. The university requires a degree for entering the programs for training for the medical science fields. This in turned help forage a new way to practice taking away
the house calls as and have more of a licensing of the physicians in most states.
INSURANCE IN HEALTHCARE
Health InsuranceThe first insurance that was used as a payment to Doctors was in the form of Workers Compensations that helps pay income to Americans that are only injured at work. A man names Justin Kimball at Baylor University made the first
known health insurance program. This insurance covered teachers at the university, but this program caught on and
grew resulting in the AMA to support the plan and coordinate it, now know as Blue Cross. Blue Cross covered hospital services. This was mostly used as a pay raises as a
benefit. While the World War II was still going on the Americans dropped or didn’t want this coverage being the
Germans had socialized healthcare and they felt that America would fall to socialism.
Medicaid and MedicareAfter the failed health Insurance proposals failed in the 20’s Americans did support a federal plan to give all Americans a source of health care. They
made two programs Medicaid and Medicare. Medicare A is for Elderly used though social security
funds to pay for hospital health care. The care B plan pays doctors visits for the elderly.
Medicaid has had problems from the start and the benefits are to go to individuals with low income, the coverage varies for state to state. There is usually a
disgrace type mark on receiving Medicaid.
Cost of CareThe raising Cost of care in the past 50 years has been growing. The
many different bills and procedure cost for care is increasing. Hospitals and physicians fees for service has risen more and more. The Medicare programs have had to open up more services for the
disabled and end of care benefits. Keeping people on services more and giving in to the increase of service from the hospitals and
doctors.
MEDICAL RECORDS
• Medical records have come a long way from the 1800 when doctors told anyone your information containing illness, injury and how you payed. Now we have the HIPPA act and it tells healthcare personnel how and what information is treated. DHHS has written procedures of a patients release of their confidential information to someone else. The rules from the federal department that deals with the health information privacy and security. The privacy rule was implemented to allow all the patients information to be protected for their own use and payment and or healthcare operations. The rules also states that the only healthcare provider that has direct care with patient must make sure that they has a written acknowledgement and that they receive the notice of private practice. This acknowledgement make the provider able to declare their insurance in the notice. This became effective April 14,2003. Medical record have paved the way to easier diagnosis of patients aliments.
WHAT IS HEALTHCARE
100 years of healthcareAmerica has gone from primitive to a more industry and still grows today. The healthcare reform has challenges to everyone in healthcare. The hospitals and treatment that
patients get has come a long way since 1800’s. more knowledge in the field of practice has increased more and
more yearly.
American Medical Association
AMA was founded my Nathan Davis in 1847. AMA has driven education, science, medical ethics,
public health efforts. AMA has asked and influenced physicians to be and independent professional and do not become employed by
hospitals or others. AMA is the main healthcare in America and be the biggest industry in America
Conclusion of Healthcare
Healthcare has come a long way from the 1800’s till now 2016. with all the advanced technology we
have now. Back in the 1900’s there wasn’t a lot of knowledge of science in the medical field. With the
advancement of insurance like Medicaid and Medicare that helps those can’t get adequate
medical care. Being that healthcare started as a doctor traveling around healing those that are sick,
and now they have offices that the patients go to the doctors. I say healthcare has come along way and can still continue to move more into the future.
