Do you have questions? email me, Mrs.Marshall • [email protected]Week 1: Observational Drawing Challenge Materials Needed: • Paper (can be anything, old envelope, back of a cereal box, or blank paper, use what you have!) • Drawing utensil (pencil, marker, crayon, etc.) • Object to draw (shoes are great for this or your favorite toy or sports object) 1. New Concepts! Contour Line: The outline of an object; the edge or line that defines or bounds a shape or object. Blind Contour Line Drawing: Drawing the contour of a subject without looking at the paper. You are training your eye and your brain to talk to your hand telling it what to do! Observational Drawing: Drawing what you see. It can be a flower, a person, a still life, a landscape, whatever. But it's drawing what you see in front of you as realistically and as true to life as possible. 2. Watch http://vimeo.com/6390933 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKHVqbM_xLU

Materials Needed:• Paper (can be anything, old envelope, back of a cereal box, or blank paper, use what you have!)

3. Now You Do it!• First you will practice blind contour line drawings a few times • Use your hand model and pose your hand (think okay symbol) • Squint your eyes/ try using one eye only • Pretend there are tiny ants crawling around the contour of your hand • No peeking at the paper • Should be looking at hand more than at paper
• Once you practice this several times, set up a still life and draw it • Draw the big main contour lines you see first • You may look at the paper now, but please look at the object more than the paper • Once you have the main lines drawn, look at your object closely and draw the details that you see • Color it in once you are done, if you have time
4. Upload or email your drawings to me!artsonia.com/class • Access code: XYYF-ZZPR
5. Make sure you complete the Week 1 Reflection, in Schoology.
